About this product
In luxury distributed audio, the challenge is delivering consistent, high-quality bass without the visual clutter of large grilles. The MartinLogan Variable Aperture System (VAS) solves this by delivering high-output, full-range performance through a variety of aperture options that elegantly blend in with recessed lighting. With both full-range speaker and dedicated subwoofer options, the VAS is a highly configurable system able to achieve 38 different looks, including the ability to disguise the subwoofer as a stealthy air vent.
Solving the "Design vs. Performance" Dilemma
Small in-ceiling speakers have traditionally forced a choice between aesthetics and performance. The Variable Aperture System eliminates that compromise with a concealed, high-volume enclosure hidden above the ceiling. The result is the bass, dynamics, and authority of a much larger speaker delivered through an aperture that blends seamlessly with designer LED downlights—creating spaces that look beautiful and sound extraordinary.
The Variable Aperture Speaker
The full-range solution for minimalist spaces, delivering clear, dynamic sound from a discreet opening. A specialized 2" aluminum driver reproduces midrange and high frequencies with remarkable vocal realism and ultra-wide dispersion for broad coverage. Dual force-canceling 5.5" woofers provide deep, low-distortion bass while minimizing structural vibration, directing more acoustic energy into the room and lowering the noise floor for greater performance.
38 Configurable Looks
MartinLogan offers 38 curated aesthetic configurations built around your chosen aperture size. VAS Speakers include round and square trims in Seamless (mud-in), Minimal, and Wide styles, plus flush or extended-mount grille options. Choose a 3", 3.5", or 4" grille for 12 unique looks per size. VAS Subwoofers add two vent-style trims, allowing them to match VAS Speakers or blend seamlessly into the ceiling as a discreet air vent.
Adjustable Port Offset
Both Variable Aperture models feature an innovative Adjustable Port Offset design that maximizes installation flexibility. The aperture can be positioned left, right, or center within the housing to accommodate visual and structural requirements. Combined with adjustable mounting brackets, this allows precise alignment for a clean, seamless installation and a perfectly finished appearance.
Adjustable Mounting Brackets
In combination with the Adjustable Port Offset feature, the bracket system provides unmatched flexibility within the ceiling joist bay. With support for floor joist spacing from 12" to 24" on center, Variable Aperture System models work in a wide variety of builds and designs.
Optimized for the MartinLogan Power Ecosystem
Custom DSP presets developed for the MartinLogan MP500 V2 and MDA8/MDA16 amplifiers maximize sound quality, output, and system efficiency. With presets engaged, each amplifier channel can safely drive up to two VAS Speakers, while the MP500 V2 can power dual subwoofers—supporting up to four VAS Subwoofers from just 1U of rack space. An 8-ohm impedance ensures compatibility with many high-performance third-party amplifiers.

The CCM7.3 S2 is a high-performance in-ceiling speaker for outstanding performance in both theater and stereo applications. Its sophisticated drive unit configuration features a 1" Carbon Dome tweeter, a 4" FST Continuum cone midrange and 2 x 5" Aerofoil Profile bass drivers. Its critically formed baffle is constructed from glass reinforced ABS while its integrated backbox ensures easy retrofittable installation, cuts down sound transfer between spaces and optimizes sound quality. Bowers & Wilkins CI700 S2 Series of in-ceiling and in-wall speakers improves on the CI600 range by adding next generation technology such as Continuum drivers and Carbon Dome Tweeters. The XTC8 features our largest and highest performing FMT XT and a woven Kevlar woofer. These features make a noticeable improvement to the sound but also help to reduce unwanted room acoustic artifacts. With a more controlled 80° x 30° dispersion, the FMT XT is a powerful tool that delivers unheard levels of realism from a CI speaker in even the most acoustically challenging rooms. The XTC8 is a great choice for a high performance whole house music system, or for premium home theater. Its unique combination of high-performance drivers and controlled dispersion allows you to control where sound is placed in a room and provides an even better experience. The MartinLogan Motion XT CI series takes performance to the next level over Motion CI. The Folded Motion XT tweeter gives each model in the Motion XT series even more of the clarity, output, and efficiency that the standard size FMT is famous for. With Motion XT, we wanted to increase all aspects of performance over the Motion series, so we didn’t just stop at the tweeter. All Motion XT models feature woven Kevlar woofers for increased rigidity and lightness which translates into better sound. In addition to the larger tweeter, and lighter, stronger woofers, MartinLogan’s design and engineering team has fitted the Motion XT series with a more substantial chassis to strengthen the speaker and provide a more accurate sound, like a better cabinet on a traditional speaker. With Motion XT CI, the difference is in the details. No matter which Motion XT CI speaker you choose for your room, rest assured they are designed to provide a consistently high level of performance and can easily be used with other MartinLogan speakers to make creating the perfect system for your unique listening space that much easier.
