A: No. You can determine this by how many channels it supports. This is 7.2, so 7 speakers and 2 subwoofers. If you are looking to get the standard surround sound (center, front left, front right, rear left, rear right) + the Atmos height channels (front left height, front right height, rear left height, rear right height) you would need 9 speakers. So, this will support 5.2.2 but not 5.4.2. That said, 5.2.2 is very enveloping.
A: This was my same experience but with this unit can play anything on zone 2 and best of all, can control it with the Onkyo phone app. So can switch from game to Amazon Music during half-time then back again without leaving the patio or other rooms where i have speakers set up.

I purchased the Onkyo TX-NR6100 to replace an older analog Onkyo home theater I had purchased several years ago. I researched online and found that this model checked most of the boxes for me (at least 100W/channel, WIFI connectivity, multiple inputs, 2nd zone, etc.). Once I solved a connectivity issue with my TV (more on that below), the setup was fairly easy to navigate through. I was disappointed that it does not connect to SiriusXM directly but found that linking it to my iPhone allowed me to play from a variety of sources over WIFI. The iPhone app is easy to use and very convenient when using the 2nd zone (in another room) and allows you to select different sources, control the volume, etc. Since it operates over WIFI, I assume you can place the receiver behind a cabinet door and control it with your phone. Biggest issue was initial connectivity to my Vizio TV. I purchased this product initially elsewhere but returned it when I could not get the setup screen to display on my TV. I returned it, thinking the unit was defective, and bought this one from Best Buy. I had the same problem and was going to return it as well but after waiting approximately 30 minutes on the phone with Onkyo Tech Support, I reached a Technician who worked with me and we eventually figured out that the HDMI input had to be set to version 1.4 in order to work with the receiver. Once I did that, setup was fairly straightforward. Overall, very pleased with my purchase. The receiver does not come with a manual - just a setup guide - so you will have to locate the manual online to do anything but the basic setup.

Bought this receiver for my daughter's home. The home has a small living room and this receiver is paired with a set of Klipsch Atmos top firing speakers. As far as loudness it is plenty for this space and sounds very good. I had purchased the speakers before purchasing this receiver. It did not supprort the speaker setup that was needed, it is 7.2.1, and the needed setup was 5.4.1. I wired the the L and R Atmos speakers in series making the load 8-9 ohms, the rest of the speakers are a 4-5 ohm load. The receiver handled this without issue as it is rated 4 to 16 ohm load. Speaker setup was very easy with the included mic. I am not an audiophile. I've heard systems that costs thousands of dollars this is not that, the speaker and receiver combo was bought because of its price and features. The receiver is also connected to two existing Polk outdoor speakers and the sound is good. So far the receiver has been used to playback movies, games, and some bluetooth audio and has not had any issues. Again the volume level is fine for this area and it is more than they will need until the are old like me.

I needed to upgrade my old receiver and the tech rep. told me this would be a great fit for my home theater set up. It was a very easy to hook up there was no need for any assistance. This receiver is awesome! I learned that Onkyo added some new features and they fixed the chip failure issue from the previous model.
