This brand new 1/72 scale diecast model of the Hetzer (Mid Prod) Tank Destroyer "T-040, Marika, 2nd Hungarian Panzer Division, Balaton" (1945) by Panzerstahl is a limited edition collector’s item featuring detailed exterior and true-to-scale accuracy. The model comes in the manufacturer’s original unopened packaging and includes a plastic display showcase for protection. Made of diecast metal with some plastic parts, it measures approximately 2.5 inches in length (3.375 with cannon), 1.375 inches in width, and 1.25 inches in height, offering durability and a realistic weight. Pad-printed markings and placards ensure long-lasting detail that won’t fade or peel, while realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels, and surface details provide an authentic representation of the real vehicle. The Sd.Kfz. 138/2 Jagdpanzer 38 "Hetzer" was a light tank destroyer used by the German Army and Waffen-SS during the final years of World War II. As a mid-production variant, it featured improved armor and construction techniques for enhanced durability in combat, and was armed with a powerful 75mm Pak 39 L/48 gun. "Marika," assigned to the 26th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (2nd Hungarian), saw action during the German retreat from the advancing Soviet Red Army in Hungary in 1945. The low profile of the Hetzer made it ideal for ambush tactics, allowing it to engage Soviet T-34 tanks and infantry formations effectively from long distances while remaining concealed in the Hungarian terrain. During the spring of 1945, intense street fighting and defensive actions marked the division’s attempts to slow the Soviet advance, with the Hetzer proving highly effective despite its smaller size and thinner armor compared to heavier German tanks. Ultimately, the overwhelming Soviet offensive forced the German forces and their Hetzer vehicles to retreat as Budapest and surrounding regions fell. This 1:72 scale model captures the rugged exterior and powerful armament of the mid-production Hetzer, offering a historically accurate and highly detailed addition to any collection of World War II military vehicles or armored warfare enthusiasts.
