    • Minimum Focal Length: 20 millimeters (The minimum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The shorter the focal length, the greater the area of scene captured.)
    • Maximum Focal Length: 22 millimeters (The maximum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The greater the focal length, the smaller the area of scene captured.)
    • Maximum Aperture: f/1.8 (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)

This ultra-wide 20mm prime G Lens offers outstanding corner-to-corner sharpness with a fast F1.8 max. aperture, making it ideal for a wide variety of scenarios like landscape, street, starry-nights and environmental portraits. Furthermore, the XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear focus motors track focus flawlessly. The features and lightweight design make this lens ideal for videographers and vloggers as well.

  • Compatible with most Sony E-mount cameras: For use with your existing device.
  • Wide-angle lens for broad composition: Delivers stunning perspectives and allows you to include more of the scene in the frame.
  • 20mm focal length: Because the focal length measures just 20mm, this lens is considered ultra wide angle.
  • f/1.8 maximum aperture: For optimal light gathering capacity, resulting in clear, highly-detailed images.
  • 0.22x magnification ratio: Ensures your images come out just the way you want.
  • AF/MF switch on lens barrel: Conveniently enables fast selection between autofocus or manual focus without having to access any menus.
  • Customizable focus hold button: Locks focus when recomposing and can be assigned to other functions, such as eye AF, AF on, aperture preview, shot result preview, and bright monitoring.
  • Two eXtreme Dynamic linear motors: Directly drives the lens's focus mechanism without intervening gears for precise, quiet operation that is ideal for movies as well as stills.
  • Internal focusing: Only the middle groups of the optical system move to achieve focus, so the overall length of the lens does not change when focusing.
  • Fluorine front-element coating: The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, while making it easier to wipe off any contaminants or fingerprints that do become attached to the lens surface.
  • Dust- and moisture-resistant construction: Enjoy extra protection and reliable operation in challenging environments. Shoot with confidence in light rain or windy conditions.

Product Manuals

Q: Is this lens weather-sealed?

A: Yes, this lens features dust- and moisture-resistant construction for use in challenging environments.

Q: Does this lens have image stabilization?

A: No, this lens does not have built-in image stabilization.

Q: What is the minimum focusing distance of this lens?

A: The minimum focusing distance of this lens is 0.59'.

Q: If A6000 limits the lens to 30mm then what is a better lens for astrophotography

A: The “Industry” has done a poor job of explaining what you’re describing- the reduction in angle-of-view obtained when using a full-frame lens on a crop-frame body. You’re correct in your statement that this 20mm lens acts like a 30mm on an A6000, which is due to the lenses angle of view with a full-frame sensor. The 20mm lens you’re asking about has a 94.5 degree angle of view when used on a full-frame sensor but is narrower on a crop frame like the A6000, at 74 degrees, meaning not as “wide”. It’s still a very sharp lens (the “corners”, which a lot of Astro photog’s talk about will be even sharper on your A6000 because they won’t be as close to the edge of the image-circle of the lens) but you won’t see as much of the sky/foreground as a shorter focal length lens. I’m not super familiar with Sony’s lens catalog for the crop-frame cameras, but you’re looking for something in the 10-16mm range to recreate that expansive feeling of “wide-angle” and hopefully an aperture of F/2.8 or brighter (smaller #’s are “brighter”) . Most zooms for the crop-frame cameras aren’t suited for Astro photography due to their smaller starting apertures, making exposure times too long to work well for uncorrected (not using a tracking telescope-type mount) astro photography. If you plan of sticking with the crop-sensor bodies, the Zeiss Touit 12mm would get you a suitably wide angle of view (the same angle of view as an 18mm lens on FF). There may others but sticking to what Best Buy offers, this seems like the best suited to Astro photography in my mind. Best Regards, Happy Holidays!

Q: Hi, Today, i bought the lens for my camera. The only problem with this is that the inside of the lens shakes back and forth, so is this a manufacturing problem, or is this just a feature in the lens?

A: I had the same concern with mine, but if that’s also what you’re experiencing it might have been designed like that. I did notice that the inside component of the lens only does that when it’s both unattached and attached to my camera while the camera is off. Once I turned my camera on, the back and forth shaking of the inside component is gone. Hope this helps.

Q: Is this lens ideal for shooting the Aurora Borealis and astrophotography? Shopping for my sister and I have no idea what lens to get with the Sony A7 specifically for the Aurora Borealis. Thanks!

A: I dont do astrophotography but this lens is great in low light condition. Its wide but if you need wider, i would go for the 14mm 1.8 GM.

Q: Does this lens work with the Sony a6000 camera?

A: Yes, but the equivalent field of view will be 30mm.

    amazing lens, lightweight small design

One of the best lightweight lenses for the Sony Emount system. It's tack sharp and pairs well with my other prime lenses that I take to shoots. Im surprised it's not a GM series lens with the build quality and picture quality it produces on my A1.

    Great walk-around lens for hikes

This was my main and only lens for a recent hiking trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. It's super fast so I knew that I could get the shot in any lighting situation and then zoom (crop) in post. I wanted a single no-fuss lens to handle the wide gorgeous stuff, the normal people posing in front of cool things stuff, and even some close-up and almost macro stuff. This lens delivered.

Not sure if it is value for money.

The lense has quite some features compared to my existing samyang f1.4 lense. But the pictures were comparatively better with the $250 samyang one. I missed the 14 days return window so cant do anything now but one thing that I wont regret is the size and weight. It's smaller and ligter than the cheaper lense. I am learning so I might be doing something wrong but that doesn't make my snaps by samyang any better.
