A: I called BestBuy support regarding this and was informed that this model (hw-q90ZA) is made solely by Samsung while the HW-Q90R/ZA has been "tuned" by Harman Kardon and has some "slightly different [read: upgraded] components".
A: Stuart, I had the same issue with the Q-90. With the rear speaker volume set at +6 (Max) very little sound even when watching Dolby Atmos source. Also soundbar right up-firing speaker became distorted. Returned soundbar to BestBuy

Q: Has anyone had any problems with the Samsung q90 r soundbar
A: Yes sometimes it wont switch over to ARC. Have to unplug from power for 1 minute and plug back in. Then it will work.
A: Yes it does. Firmware update 1010.5 provided eARC. Love it! Buy it! You won't regret it!
Q: How long are the rear speakers' power cables and are the hard wired or detachable?
A: Speaker Power cord is 57 inches and are detachable from the speaker.
A: Yes it will work. This is the same setup I use with my UHD player so that better sound can be played even if the TV might not output Dolby Atmos.
