The best router I have ever used/had!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sure it was a bit pricie but once you start using it you forget its cost. Prior to buying this router I bought a $160 Netgear R6300 AC1700 and had an awful experience with it. After 2 days of trying to set it up and 5 hours of there over seas customer support trying to tell me I was doing it wrong till finally transferring me to an american tech who agreed that it was their product, I returned it. I didn't want to spend an extra $60 for this product but the prior reviews were great and and it didn't make sense to me to get the next product down only to save $20. What I wanted from a router: 1- Ability to stream HD movies from my network. 2- Ability to connect a USB 3.0 external drive and turn it into a NAS. 3- Allow for more device to be online at once with out lag issues. What I got in addition to what I wanted and didn't even know that I wanted: 1- Ability to access my NAS over the internet and FTP. 2- Smart request prioritizing so I can download and surf with out experiencing any lag what so ever. 3- The router can be told to download content for you and store it on the nas. and you can do this from anywhere and any device so you don't need to leave computers on in the house. 4- The router can automatically create backups for your computers on the network .

Great Router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router sets up fast, has many user options, and works quite well. I love having the dual band availability. My router is set up on one end of the home, and signal is strong even all the way at the other end of the home. I have only two minor gripes. First, during the initial setup, you have to log into the router to get to the various settings. This requires a password that is mentioned NOWHERE in the manual. I had to get to the internet (via my phone) and search for their generic startup password. It wasn't hard to find, but it was inconvenient. Second, is the orientation of the router itself. The vertical orientation is nice because it leaves a smaller footprint, but there is no way to lay it down if you wanted to make it a little less obvious in the space. There is also no provision to mount it to a wall or desk. Otherwise - great router. So much better than my last Cisco router. I'll stick with Asus.

Easy for beginners, but full featured for experts!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At my job I've configured numerous business routers. They have myriad features, but their command line interface takes plenty of patience and a ton of understanding. Conversely, home "routers" have always been easy to use at the expense of high-end functionality. I noticed the draft AC standard was starting to hit consumer devices, so I started doing research & settled on this gem. In this device, Asus has found a way to give you the best features you'd expect in a business router with a beautiful & intuitive web user interface. WiGig is a must in the future connected household with multiple devices. My favorite feature by far is the VPN. Not only is it a breeze to setup, but Asus also offers free DDNS forever! Now you'll never have to worry about using an untrusted network while away from home. Just configure all your devices to use your home VPN & you'll get that warm fuzzy feeling, knowing your data is secure.

A few bugs at first but I love this router!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this router! It was pricey and a bit overkill for our home but it has a bunch of great features. After I first set it up, I had some problems with the 3.0 USB port freezing and I had to reboot the router a couple times during the first week. I emailed Asus support and they responded within 24 hours. All I had to do was download the latest firmware and now the router runs great. It was weird that from the router admin screen when I checked for the latest update it said I was on the latest version but the version that was on the Asus website was newer. So, per supoort's instructions, I had to manually install the firmware and set up the router all over again. If it weren't for the initial problems, I'd give this router 5 stars. As I mentioned, it has great features, such as: Two USB Ports Adjustable range frequency on both bands Great range - I can stay connected when I'm in my garage or out working on the lawn The AiCloud app allows me to get to my files on my WD cloud, drives in the USB ports, and my laptop from my cell phone or tablet It was easy to set up (browser based) and I can make admin changes from my tablet or PC. Multiple movies stream smoothly simultaneously from my NAS to my tablet, smart TVs and smartphones, even when we have multiple people doing online gaming.

ASUS RT-AC68R Dual Band Gigabit Router-Fast & Easy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS RT-AC68R Dualband Gigabit Router was a perfect fit for my situation. I have a large house and other routers could not provide coverage even to the master bedroom. The ASUS covers the entire house with no dead zones! It was easy to setup. I had more trouble trying to turn off the wireless transmission of the lousy Verizon router. The ASUS handles As many handheld devices as we can throw at it without anybody feeling like they are waiting with their iPad or iPhone! We have had family gatherings where there was probably over 25 handheld devices being served by the ASUS. The reliability is incredible, unlike the extended drop outs we used to encounter with the Verizon router. I have used ASUS products in the past and have always been impressed with their reliability. This product is their same great quality!

ASUS RT-AC68U review
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was in the market for a high end wireless routerto better my online gaming experience. It was between this model and netgear nighthawk. Ended up getting the ASUS RT-AC68U on a fantastic sale by BB (probably a mistake it was so cheap!). I've yet to take advantage of the advanced features such as wireless printing and cloud storage (asus has an app for this router!). The average user will have some learning curve with all the features and that is why for "use" and "installation I did not give top marks. For tech savvy peeps, this thing is Awesome. I have router in an upstairs bedroom and the xbox one is downstairs in the family room. With my old netgear 802.11n router that had very good signal strength, the Xbox would say the wireless signal strength was anywhere between 72% and 80%. Now with the ASUS, on 2.4 connection the strength is 96% and on 5.0 connection it's 82%. Wireless download speeds on a 25mbps max cable connection improved slightly too. It's been up for a month or so with zero issues.

Awesome router - consistent and fast wifi
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced a Cisco router that worked great for a while but failed after just over a year. I didn't even know Asus made routers but read a lot of positive reviews and decided to try it. Couldn't be happier! It has been consistently fast wifi - approaching 50 Mbps on both bands - even the guest network! The range is great too! I used to have a range extender to get signal up on my third floor and don't need it at all anymore. I even have coverage outside in my entire yard and into the neighbors - much further than my old router. I also like how you can turn off all the flashing lights so that it's very unobtrusive. As long as this router lasts longer than they have for me historically I will be completely satisfied.

Q: QuestionWhats the difference between the 2.4GHZ and the 5GHZ?
Asked by JIMWELL.
- A:Answer The primary difference between the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz wireless frequencies is range as the 2.4GHz frequency is able to reach farther than the 5GHz frequency. This is a result of the basic characteristics that waves attenuate much faster at higher frequencies. So if you are more concerned with the coverage, you should select 2.4GHz rather than 5GHz. 5GHz is better suited to apartment blocks which are likely to have a greater amount of network interference.

Q: QuestionConnecting External Coax Antenna Cable to ASUS RT-AC68R antenna mini-connectorI have a rooftop antenna that beams signal all over our property. It is connected to a standard coax cable. The antenna connectors on the router are what I would call mini-coax connectors - not full size. Is there any connector to buy that converts a full size coax connector to this mini size connector so I can use my outside antenna with this router? Are all newer routers this smallish connector instead of the standard size that I have used in the past? Thanks so much.
Asked by portolan.
- A:Answer Well, if there is available coax converter in the stores you can purchase one. Not all of the newer routers have this smallish coax.
