Just buy this router probably one of the finest on the market right now. My only issue is that some times the usb port stalls and I have to disconnect the hard drive and reconnect it. Printer works fine. Router is fast and all its features work well simultaneously. Strong single with great distance. Tried 5 other router before this due to price and local availability but finally bought this and glad I spent a little extra. Blows the others away in terms of performance and features that work consistently.

I have a ps4, ps3, smart tv, 2 smart blu ray players, 2 desktops, about 4 laptops and 3 ipads and 4 iphones on the wireless and they all are super fast and the range is incredible also. I can be in my neighbors yard and get my signal. Love this router.

Specs are good, and hardware is well-built. Wireless is reliable and fast, range is reasonable. But it's all about the software support. ASUS actually does a very good job with releasing frequent updates, and there are a number of third-party firmware options (Merlin, DD-WRT, OpenWRT, Tomato, etc.)

Sure it was a bit pricie but once you start using it you forget its cost.
Prior to buying this router I bought a $160 Netgear R6300 AC1700 and had an awful experience with it. After 2 days of trying to set it up and 5 hours of there over seas customer support trying to tell me I was doing it wrong till finally transferring me to an american tech who agreed that it was their product, I returned it. I didn't want to spend an extra $60 for this product but the prior reviews were great and and it didn't make sense to me to get the next product down only to save $20.
What I wanted from a router:
1- Ability to stream HD movies from my network.
2- Ability to connect a USB 3.0 external drive and turn it into a NAS.
3- Allow for more device to be online at once with out lag issues.
What I got in addition to what I wanted and didn't even know that I wanted:
1- Ability to access my NAS over the internet and FTP.
2- Smart request prioritizing so I can download and surf with out experiencing any lag what so ever.
3- The router can be told to download content for you and store it on the nas. and you can do this from anywhere and any device so you don't need to leave computers on in the house.
4- The router can automatically create backups for your computers on the network .

Fast speed and great connection. Easy to setup like most other routers and had few/small problems if any. I had a small lag with gaming at first but I rebooted it and worked fine ever since. This is a great router supporting all our home devices, about 10 to 12. Including gaming multiple devices and video streaming. Highly recommend over the netgear nighthawk router that had big problems.

PRO: Easy to setup and use to configure. If you are using the 5.0 Ghz. it is very fast and reliable connection. If you have a fast internet already it will boost the connection about 10 to 15%, well that is what it did for me any ways. Overall this is a great for streaming for the Nvidia shield no lag or anything. Flawless just a great product.

I love this router! It was pricey and a bit overkill for our home but it has a bunch of great features. After I first set it up, I had some problems with the 3.0 USB port freezing and I had to reboot the router a couple times during the first week. I emailed Asus support and they responded within 24 hours. All I had to do was download the latest firmware and now the router runs great. It was weird that from the router admin screen when I checked for the latest update it said I was on the latest version but the version that was on the Asus website was newer. So, per supoort's instructions, I had to manually install the firmware and set up the router all over again. If it weren't for the initial problems, I'd give this router 5 stars. As I mentioned, it has great features, such as:
Two USB Ports
Adjustable range frequency on both bands
Great range - I can stay connected when I'm in my garage or out working on the lawn
The AiCloud app allows me to get to my files on my WD cloud, drives in the USB ports, and my laptop from my cell phone or tablet
It was easy to set up (browser based) and I can make admin changes from my tablet or PC.
Multiple movies stream smoothly simultaneously from my NAS to my tablet, smart TVs and smartphones, even when we have multiple people doing online gaming.

Bought this router to replace my Netgear N router and it is working awesome. I have a 3000 sf house and this router gets full strength in all areas of my house. I have been using it for a month and have not lost connection at all unlike the netgear router it replaced. Great router, pricey but worth it.

Installation was easy, with a Mac using wireless only (couldn't find the pesky USB to Ethernet adaptor. I can see that this router could do a lot more, but for now, it's working fine for a sizable house and garden. Signal strength outside (on the low band) was 12 db better than an old Linksys router, good in its day.
But the signal simply vanishes, occasionally. I can log right back on, though. And the fact that the two bands are separate and I need to choose one is also a bit awkward. Auto switching to the strongest signal between the two would be optimal, though that may be something about my computer, not about the router. Works well with my phone, too.

The router was very easy to set up. The unit is running 21 items in a large home. Smart TV's, Games, Cell Phones, 3 Foscams, ect, ect, ect... You get the point. Range is very good, I am able to retain service at the net door neighbors at appx 150 ft. Have yet to try it at a greater range. Over all I am very happy with the unit. As they say, you get what you pay for. And you will pay, the only downside is the price.

I have been needing an upgrade to my old router for a while now. Too many devices (4 laptops, 2 desk tops, 2 tablets, a Wii, an X-Box, Internet TV, and 4 phones) and not enough bandwidth on the old router. The first thing I did was download and install the latest Merlin firmware which was a breeze.
Next was setting the output power to max (200 mw) and then setting up the network. The router has many options in this which are well covered in the manual. I placed half my device on the 2.4 gHz band and the rest on the 5 gHz band. The X-Box which was always touchy on the connection before had and still has no issues :)
The house is multi-level with 3600 sf and I have no issues with signal strength anywhere.

This is the best router I've used yet. I used to live in a multi store house and it was able to reach downstairs and even well past the curb. I live elsewhere now but still the range is outstanding for both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz.
The 5 Ghz is faster than 2.4 GHz when I tested it but not by a great deal. The ease of setup and ability to quickly connect a hard drive to this router and then use an iOS app that is free to access it is also amazing.
It's pricey but Worth it

I bought this for my father-in-law's home. It reaches all three floors without any problems. Setup is just as easy as the previous dual band N version which I have for my house. Router can be configured for many different scenarios whether it be router, gateway, or wireless AP. He has 50mbit down and 12mbit upload and reaching those speeds is easy even from the farthest point from the router.

ASUS RT-AC68R Dual Band Gigabit Router-Fast & Easy

The ASUS RT-AC68R Dualband Gigabit Router was a perfect fit for my situation. I have a large house and other routers could not provide coverage even to the master bedroom. The ASUS covers the entire house with no dead zones! It was easy to setup. I had more trouble trying to turn off the wireless transmission of the lousy Verizon router. The ASUS handles As many handheld devices as we can throw at it without anybody feeling like they are waiting with their iPad or iPhone! We have had family gatherings where there was probably over 25 handheld devices being served by the ASUS. The reliability is incredible, unlike the extended drop outs we used to encounter with the Verizon router.
I have used ASUS products in the past and have always been impressed with their reliability. This product is their same great quality!

I've had three other routers that claimed to be for large houses. They never worked well. This was recommended by a best buy employee and he guaranteed that it would take care of the whole house. He was right. It works wonderfully for the house which is over 4000 sq ft. There are eight devices that use it. You can also turn off the wifi for certain devices at specific times to keep kids off the internet late at night.

At my job I've configured numerous business routers. They have myriad features, but their command line interface takes plenty of patience and a ton of understanding. Conversely, home "routers" have always been easy to use at the expense of high-end functionality. I noticed the draft AC standard was starting to hit consumer devices, so I started doing research & settled on this gem.
In this device, Asus has found a way to give you the best features you'd expect in a business router with a beautiful & intuitive web user interface. WiGig is a must in the future connected household with multiple devices. My favorite feature by far is the VPN. Not only is it a breeze to setup, but Asus also offers free DDNS forever! Now you'll never have to worry about using an untrusted network while away from home. Just configure all your devices to use your home VPN & you'll get that warm fuzzy feeling, knowing your data is secure.

This router has been the perfect fit for my needs. I wanted a router that had good coverage, was easy to set up, and would be simple to configure as an access point. I bought two of these with one set up as a standard router and the second upstairs as an access point for the more remote parts of the house. The setup was as simple as could be and the reliability and ease of use overall is outstanding! I've been so happy with the product that I recommended it to a friend who purchased one as well. His experience echo's mine with a quick setup and another happy camper. Well done ASUS!!
