A Different Story Indeed!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Both Perry King and Meg Foster have terrific chemistry and truly shine in this once very controversial film about a gay man and his lesbian friend who marry so that he does not get deported. After a night of drinking, they fall into bed and in love. The film has never looked this good, the transfer by Kino Lorber is outstanding, and this does contain the original “R” rated version with a few extra glimpses of nudity (mostly from Foster In the birthday cake scene in the bed). A dated look is the only downside as evidenced in some of the garish fashion, and room decor in some of the scenes. In 1978 when this film was released-gay characters were just not seen in film and this film depicted a relationship with two! To top it off, they fall in love with each other-thus leading to the controversy. To some this was very unrealistic and ridiculous, to others, it was a story about two people who fell in love despite their differences. I don’t think the film was speaking to this being the norm, after all it is called “A Different Story”. Perry King and Meg Foster do such a great job playing off each other (apparently this is a favorite film of both actors)-it’s fairly reasonable to see why they would fall for each other. Terrific theme song; “Let Tomorrow Be”, performed by Bill Wray. The blu ray transfer is amazing-this is really one to pick up. It’s a great movie!
