    Synopsis

    A Fish Called Wanda
In A Fish Called Wanda, Jamie Lee Curtis plays an ambitious con artist who uses every ounce of her sexual wiles to obtain a fortune in jewels stolen by her gangster lover Tom Georgeson. First, she romances Georgeson's dimwitted but deadly henchman Kevin Kline (who won an Academy Award for his performance). Then, to clear the path for her getaway with Kline, Jamie woos Georgeson's starched-shirt attorney, John Cleese -- and it's Cleese whom she genuinely falls in love with. Michael Palin, Cleese's former Monty Python cohort, plays a stuttering mob flunkey who continually messes up his one big assignment: killing a little old lady (it isn't that he has any qualms about knocking off the old dear; it's just that her pet dogs keep getting in the way). A Fish Called Wanda was scripted by star John Cleese. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Typical Monty Python fare, even if they are not cerdited for the wotk they did on this movie. John Cleese is his typical clutsy self as the lawyer sucked into an attempt to free a criminal after a heist by Jamie Curtis. Michael Palin is almost painful in his botched attempts to kill a witness as he blunders from mishap to mishap. Classic comedy at its best.

This film combines the comic genius of several generations as acclaimed writer/director Charles Crichton works with a couple of the Monty Python troupe and Kevin Kline and Jamie Lee Curtis to make a quite satisfying comedy. There might be some moments that tap dance all over the borders of good taste but there are so many winning moments here that make this so enjoyable.

Although this movie came out years ago, it has held up, such that it is still very enjoyable to watch over (and over) again. All the actors do a great job, including the 2 Monty Python alumni (Michael Palin & John Cleese). Sit back & laugh!

A Fish Called Wanda is the best Ealing Comedy Ealing never made - it's a perfect film, in terms of comic performances and timing. The Blu-ray has loads of great special features, but the audio and video quality isn't all it could be. That said, this film isn't one crying out for razor-sharp A/V work.

This is my wife's favorite comedy of all time. We had VHS, two different DVD versions, and now finally a Blu-ray Disc. She's very happy with the transfer and sound on this disc. I'm sure she'll enjoy if for many years to come!

This is such a great movie and it's available dirt cheap these days. If you're a fan of British style comedy in general and/or John Cleese in particular, you owe it to yourself to check this gem out as well as the follow - up , Fierce Creaturez

I have always thought this film was very funny. Basically the end of Jamie Lee Curtis & Kevin Kline’s careers. NEVER had another hit film neither of them. Won an Oscar for Kline. "Don’t call me stupid". I never liked Palin’s character Ken.
