A: The frame owner does not have to have a smartphone. You can call anyone who has a frame OR anyone who has the app downloaded to their smartphone.
Q: If you have the memory card and the memory stick both inserted will all the pictures play from both?
A: Yes, you can select all sources to play photos from.
A: Yes, there will be a banner displayed at the top of the screen indicating a new image. However, this does disappear. You can also go into the main picture folder and the new images will have a tag indicating they are new.

A: This frame will only video chat with another frame of the same type. The only requirement is that you have Wi-Fi.

A: Yes, an unlimited number of people can connect to the frame and send photos.
A: Unfortunately, you cannot use an external HD...only a USB flash drive. The max recommended size is 128GB.
