    Synopsis

    Amélie
One woman decides to change the world by changing the lives of the people she knows in this charming and romantic comic fantasy from director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Amelie (Audrey Tautou) is a young woman who had a decidedly unusual childhood; misdiagnosed with an unusual heart condition, Amelie didn't attend school with other children, but spent most of her time in her room, where she developed a keen imagination and an active fantasy life. Her mother Amandine (Lorella Cravotta) died in a freak accident when Amelie was eight, and her father Raphael (Rufus) had limited contact with her, since his presence seemed to throw her heart into high gear. Despite all this, Amelie has grown into a healthy and beautiful young woman who works in a cafe and has a whimsical, romantic nature. When Princess Diana dies in a car wreck in the summer of 1997, Amelie is reminded that life can be fleeting and she decides it's time for her to intervene in the lives of those around her, hoping to bring a bit of happiness to her neighbors and the regulars at the cafe. Amelie starts by bringing together two lonely people -- Georgette (Isabelle Nanty), a tobacconist with a severe case of hypochondria, and Joseph (Dominique Pinon), an especially ill-tempered customer. When Amelie finds a box of old toys in her apartment, she returns them to their former owner, Mr. Bretodeau (Maurice Benichou), sending him on a reverie of childhood. Amelie befriends Dufayel (Serge Merlin), an elderly artist living nearby whose bones are so brittle, thanks to a rare disease, that everything in his flat must be padded for his protection. And Amelie decides someone has to step into the life of Nino (Mathieu Kassovitz), a lonely adult video store clerk and part-time carnival spook-show ghost who collects pictures left behind at photo booths around Paris. Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulain received unusually enthusiastic advance reviews prior to its French premiere in the spring of 2001, and was well received at a special free screening at that year's Cannes Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

      Another great foreign film

In this case, the blurb on the back cover does not do the movie justice. Allow me to give a brief synopsis before giving my opinion of the movie: After finding a treasure hidden away in her apartment, Amelie decides to seek out the rightful owner to return the time capsule. After finding the man and returning the items to him anonymously, Amelie realizes she has found a new purpose in life. She likes to interfere in the lives of others, see what makes them tick, and then do something that will bring them happiness. Amelie enriches everyones' lives but is too shy to improve her own. She plays quite a game of cat and mouse with a man she runs into all over town. Even though they seem magnetically attracted to one another, you will have to watch and see what becomes of Amelie... I love this movie. For those of you who are not in the habit of buying foreign films you have never seen before, I highly suggest you take up such a habit. I have never seen a bad foreign film, and Amelie was no exception.

Great movie, I was a little aprehensive about watching this and put off renting it for a long time, but I finally got it and it exceeded my expectatons. It is very inventive and will leave you with a new look on how a movie can affect you. I loved many scenes in it and the imagery of the film is amazing, it looks like a kind of dreamland. I reccomend this to any one who is tired of the same old same old Hollywood movie and would like a unique change in what they watch. You won't be disappointed with Amelie.

This film is an amazing story and has wonderful production, cinematography, and directing. The special effects add to the quirkiness of the story and characters. Overall an amazing film experience and highly recommended. The fact that there are no subtitles, does not take away from the film at all and causes you to pay more close attention and immerse yourself into the story.

Basically, the movie is about this girl Amelie who decides to help everyone she knows because she believes the Goods should be awarded and the Bad should be punished. While helping people, she finds the love of her life and have a little adventure along the way. In my opinions, this movie is quite entertain. The plot is funny and sweet. The characters, especially Amelie, do good jobs. I give this movie 4.3/ 5.0

Amelie is an awesome visual modern day Parisian fantasy full of wimsie and romance. This is a most excellent deal for the Bluray disc if you're not looking for all of the extra behind the scenes and commentaries with the special features offered with the more expensive bluray disc. Just wish I could have purchased it in store and didnt have to order it online.

This movie is already a classic amongst modern film fans, and for good reason. It's easy to watch without being simple or dumbed down. The rich cinematography adds to a fun story and an extremely likable lead character. I could watch this movie over and over (and have!). If you're already a fan of the movie, rest assured that the Blu-Ray itself will not disappoint.
