    Surprisingly stupid phone

    I went from the Samsung S5 (my first smartphone) to this one. I liked my Samsung and my main issues with it were only: 1. battery life, mostly at the end of the phone's life 2. lots of apps taking up space. I was mostly happy with this iPhone for the first few days, I guess because it was shiny and new, and then the problems began. Many of them are small, but even those add up and make me feel like I've wasted a lot of time on issues with this phone. Examples: - I imported all my contacts and then thought I should clear some of them out. Want to delete more than one contact at once? Think you should be able to select multiple contacts and then have an option to delete? Too easy. Get another phone. On the iPhone, you cannot do anything in the main list of contacts. To delete (one at a time), you have to go into the contact, scroll to the bottom, and then click "delete contact." Other apps are like this too (ex: you have to go to Settings in order to delete a song), BUT NOT ALL OF THEM. It is incredibly weird and non-intuitive (I've learned some UX design principles and I'm pretty sure this inconsistency is not good UX). - Every time I delete a picture, it warns me that I have no iCloud storage. I have to click "okay" or something to continue with deleting the picture. Saying "dismiss" or "I understand" or something so that it doesn't tell me that EVERY SINGLE TIME is of course not possible. If you're willing to keep giving money to Apple to get more storage in order to get rid of their dumb messages, I guess it's fine. - The built-in "back" button to the left of the home button (on the Samsung) has been replaced with... nothing. Yes, there is a back button on the main screen, but it often takes an extra click to get the back button to appear, because it is usually hidden to save space. - The light that slowly blinks (two different colors depending on what type of notifications you have) has been replaced with... nothing. I miss it so much. When you're waiting for someone to respond by text, for instance (if you're not sure you heard the alert, or you're listening to something not on your phone, or if your phone is muted), you have to keep walking over to the phone, unlocking it, and checking your messages rather than just looking at it from afar to see if the light is blinking. - I had my Samsung S5 for 3 years and never cracked the screen. I had the iPhone 7 for 4 months and the screen shattered the first time I dropped the phone and after touching it, I got glass in my thumb. Could be bad luck, but I dropped my Samsung many times, including without a case. - I have way more bluetooth issues with this iPhone. With my Samsung, it would automatically connect to bluetooth headphones, and quickly. With this iPhone, I'm always risking that when I start pandora, it will play through my phone in the middle of the gym instead of playing through my bluetooth headphones right away (pandora opens & always starts playing music automatically, but with the Samsung I never had to worry about this). Also, I have had AirPods for the past couple months, and a few times already had seriously irritating issues with them where the following happens: 1. I put on the AirPods and open pandora on my phone 2. music automatically plays through iPhone, so I pause the music 3. I select "AirPods" instead of iPhone 4. I go back and play the music again 5. the music plays through the iPhone, not the AirPods. 6. Repeat steps #2-5. This could be pandora specific, but it never happened with my other bluetooth headphones (and I've tried multiple) with my Samsung. Also, just re-connecting my AirPods to the iPhone has taken multiple tries and multiple instances of a message "Error... something happened...but we don't know what.. would you like to try again for the 78th time, or would you like to return this idiotic phone and move on with your life?" message. - I miss being able to let the screen turn off without locking it. Sometimes my phone is right next to me for a while, but I don't want to constantly keep the screen on. With my Samsung, I could let the screen turn off after the specified number of seconds, and the screen would not have to be locked. With the iPhone, if the screen turns off, it is locked no matter what. I miss that option. Even with it being mostly easy to unlock via fingerprint, there are times when it does not work that well (fingers are sweaty or wet, or unknown reasons like whatever prevented me from even ADDING fingerprints for a week or so-- every time I tried it said it couldn't read my fingerprint, and at the same time unlocking via fingerprint didn't work sometimes. I tried cleaning the screen, washing my hands, etc.). - It charges more slowly. This is not a full list. There are lots of other little things that you might think don't matter, but it's like when my dog pulls on his leash. It's okay a few times, even for a few weeks... but every day, three times a day--no thanks. I always assumed that even if I had a slight preference for Samsung phones (based on only 1 phone I had - it's not like I've been a Samsung user for 10 years), that iPhones would be pretty much the same and possibly even easier to use (I've also had an iPad and a MacBook before, so I'm not brand new to Apple products). I never thought they'd be so annoying. A few issues I had were probably just due to me using a new phone and not knowing how to do things at first, but I am not taking that into account when reviewing this phone. Also, maybe I'm crazy but I thought that the big draw of iPhones was that they are intuitive and easy-to-use, so you would think the transition wouldn't be this irritating. I think I took for granted how great the Samsung phone was. They don't hide options from you and focus on making things super pretty and stupidly simple rather than making them functional.

    I was coming from a 4 year old Motorola Droid Maxx HD. I had been waiting for the fall season of phones to hit to determine which phone to pick up. I was able to get this with the 2-yr purchase price of $200.00 so it wasn't too expensive to step into. The best part of this move, for me, was being able to use Apple Music. The rest of my family had moved to the Apple line of products so it was the easiest decision to go with Apple. However, I will say that I do miss a lot of the Motorola's features, most notably the flashing alert LED. This way you only need to look at the phone to know if you need to check it. I really miss that feature as I find myself looking at my phone more often to just be sure I haven't missed anything. For those who do not need the Apple brand for ecosystem purposes, you should look at the Motorola lineup. They don't get enough praise. Camera wise, it is nice, but I still think the Samsung S7 Edge is better overall. Mainly it will come down to color saturation preferences from the user, but I think it is more clear in low light situations. Overall a very solid phone, but I wish I could pick and choose phone features a la carte style. For what my music usage is, the Apple Music app has been pretty solid as well.

    Well, I succumbed to the hype and bought my first iPhone, the iPhone 7, after having Samsung phones for many years. I like some of the features better, and others not so much. I think it's going to take me a while to get used to the differences. I liked my text and calendar apps on the Samsung much, much better, and it's been a stumble trying to get into the mindset on how these apps work. There are some cool features I like better ...the flashing light notification works amazing and I don't miss a call when the ringer is turned off. I have a clear case and it's a pretty bright flashing light. So, my phone won't wake the baby, so to speak. The screen is smaller than my old Samsung Galaxy S5, but it's not been a problem to adjust to that. Yet, having a shorter battery life has been really noticeable. I wish the battery lasted longer, and I now carry a charger everywhere I go ...especially in my car. I'm used to the iPad, so most of the workings are familiar. I'll give it a good 3 years and then see if I want to go back to the Android world. Time will tell.

    The product itself, the iPhone 7, is excellent but the technical support provided by the Best Buy employee was deplorable and that is why I selected an overall rating of Average. I specifically made this purchase at the store rather than online in order to receive assistance in moving over my apps, pictures, videos, contacts, etc. I made a backup of my old iPhone information in iCloud and expected the salesperson to assist me in restoring this information. However, I was told, after I purchased the phone, that the internet connection in the store was down and that I would have to perform the restore function at home, and at that point it was too late to cancel the purchase because he had already deactivated my old phone. How lame is that? The biggest electronic retailer in the area did not have adequate internet access? When he told me that, I thought he was pulling my leg. I will never buy another phone at this retailer nor do I recommend that anyone else do so. I should have just gone to an Apple Store.

    I recently upgraded my mother to this phone from the original iPhone 5. Being her third iPhone, I knew that design quality and reliability would be there. However, I expected the speed to be significantly faster. Unfortunately, even though on paper the 7 is much faster, in practice it is not as apparent to me. Even with the massive amount of storage and supposed processing power, I am still encountering the same problems with online actions going slow or sometimes hanging and needing to be reset. I am not taking more stars away from this phone because I am not able to say with certainty whether it is the phone or the apps that I'm using's fault. My wifi hits consistently at 30-50 Mbps and LTE hits consistently at 30-40 Mbps. The same major apps having the same problems (yahoo news, YouTube, Facebook, safari, ESPN, NASCAR, etc.). I find it doubtful that all of those major company's apps are at fault and not the common denominator (the phone).

    The iPhone 7 is a great smartphone. Have not experienced any issues with the phone. Faster than the iPhone 6 that I traded in. Unfortunately I have not been happy with the service that I received from the BestBuy Mobile staff. I bought this phone on Black Friday and then BestBuy offered a better deal in mid-December. I called BestBuy to get the Price Guarantee and the customer service person on the phone told me all I had to do was take the phone into the store and they would give me the new pricing. When I got to the store I was told by the associate and the manager that they do not honor price guarantees on cellphones, regardless of what the customer serviice people told me. I left the store and called BestBuy again (I should have called from the store) and again was told that the store should honor the price guarantee. After a second trip to the store I still have not received the lower price. Needless to say I will never buy a cellphone from BestBuy mobile again.

    Best phone I have ever owned. After carrying a 5S for almost 5 years it finally went haywire. I looked at the 6, 8 and wasn’t about to spend the $ for the X. I’m not one to get a new phone just because there is a new model out. Read reviews and settled on the 7. The 7 was very little more$ than the 6, the 8 just didn’t really have that much more to offer than the 7 but was much more expensive. It’s so fast. Hit the power button and phone is ready to use in seconds. I can’t believe the call clarity. If I had known there was so much difference I would have bought this phone earlier. Screen not too big and much better resolution. Very pleased. Will last me for years to come.

    Better value to get the iPhone 7, now that the 8 and X are out. I didn’t care for the feel of the iPhone 8; the 7 has a metal back, whereas the 8 has a glass front and back with a metal bezel around the edge of the phone. Too much glass to break. Also I personally didn’t see much of a difference in the specifications and features between the 7 and 8 for the price difference. I don’t care for the home button on the iPhone 7 and 8; the older iPhones had a ‘mechanical’ home button, whereas the 7 & 8 are ‘electronic’. I suppose it is one less moving part to fail and dirt cannot get behind the button anymore - but it is a weird feel and doesn’t always work (especially if you’re wearing gloves).
