I already owned a rechargeable electric toothbrush that I don't use as often as I should, but I started using it every time I brushed my teeth after my dentist and oral hygienist suggested getting one. It's probably close to twenty years old and I've purchased replacement brush heads up until a few years ago, but I had been using the same one for a while, (remember, it's seen limited use), so I wanted to buy more. Unfortunately they, along with the toothbrush were discontinued. My wife was using a non-rechargeable electric toothbrush and was happy with it, except for having to replace the batteries.
I came across a link, an ad or something about the world's first 40,000 VPM toothbrush and followed it to the AquaSonic website where there was the BLACK Series Ultrasonic toothbrush bundle. I looked at all of the AquaSonic toothbrushes and I saw the Duo Series rechargeable toothbrushes that contains one black and one white toothbrush along with four extra brush heads for only $10 more than the BLACK SERIES single toothbrush I was looking at.
I then went on Best Buy to see if they carried either of them and found that they carried both, and they were the same price as on the AquaSonic website. With Best Buy there is the added benefit of the two year protection plan that is included with my My Best Buy Total membership instead of just a one year manufacturers warranty, (once you register it on their website), so it didn't take much to figure out who I was going to purchase it from.
My wife chose the white one which was fine with me because the black one looked like a sleek well-crafted automobile. Comparing it to my present electric toothbrush was like comparing that sleek well-crafted automobile to a vehicle that was at least forty years old and hadn't seen any TLC in many, many years. It's much quieter too, while the 40,000 VPM, (vibrations per minute), ran circles around my present electric toothbrush. Even though it's made of plastic, it feels soft, if plastic could be described as being soft, and smooth in your hand, but it is not slippery even when it's wet.
It contains five extra brush heads for each color toothbrush, which should last for quite a while, but I had a bristle sticking out after the second use, so I was concerned the brush heads weren't of the same quality of the toothbrush. Since trimming that bristle, I have had no more errant ones sticking out, so it appears that the brush heads will last awhile before having to change it.
Unlike the Black Series single toothbrush that has four brush modes, the Duo has three brush modes. They are clean, whiten, and massage, and the mode it's in is indicated by three LEDs on the handle. Like mu old electric toothbrush, there is a two minute timer split into four fifteen second intervals so you know how long to spend brushing each quadrant. If you change modes while using it, the two minutes restarts. My wife found that out because she has changed the mode due to where and how she holds the toothbrush. At first I thought the 40,000 VPM might be a little harsh on my gums, but that has not been the case at all. Not to be too dramatic, but the differences between using my AquaSonic Duo vs my manual or even my other electric toothbrush is not like the difference between night and day, it's like the difference between the early 1900's and the 2000's.
Although I use my original electric toothbrush in the second bathroom or when I charge the AquaSonic Duo, I have not used my manual toothbrushes since getting the AquaSonic Duo. While I didn't feel it needed to be charged after two weeks, I charged it anyway just to avoid the possibility of one day it shutting off in the middle of brushing. Before I charged it, it did not feel or sound like it was running slower than when it was first charged like my other electric toothbrush did. Then again, it IS almost twenty years old with the original non replaceable battery.
I recommend this AquaSonic Duo electric toothbrush, but I always seem to go overboard with my reviews. If, however, this information helps you with your decision as to whether to buy the AquaSonic Duo, then it may have been worth it.
