      Blurry Video during movement

After having a Samsung SNH-P6410BN SmartCam HD Pro 1080p WiFi IP Camera, that they are not supporting very well if at all anymore and certainly not on Alexa unless it's one of their new models, I decided to shop for a replacement. First I started with a dlink DCS indoor 1080P who's picture was not good at all. So I decided to try out the Arlo Q. I knew it was an indoor camera. I did not go for the Arlo Pro2 because I didn't want a complete wireless system, didn't want a hub unit considering I just bought thier Orbi system competing with each other and wanted something smaller. The video quality was far superior compared to the dlink and maybe a bit better than my Samsung for not much movement. I was not a fan of things going from color to a black in white when it gets dark even without Night Vision. Bottom line, I noticed that with motion there is very inconsistant video quality and very blurry and even pixilated as shown below. For me, this kind of defeated it being a video security camera. I don't know what the issue is, but it needs to be fixed. The Arlo storage is really the best thing about the Camera. You can put in zones and get 7 days of storage for free! That is awesome! But you can only have one app open at a time. When you have the app open on a phone and then open it up from another source, it closes the app from the source it was opened up on first telling me that it was opened from another source. What if you or your significant other were reviewing the same alert from different places? What an inconvenience. It has a lot of potential, but n eeds a lot of work. Below is an example screenshot.

Rating after a month of ownership and use

Was happy when everything appeared to work fine though there are some serious limitations like delayed notification on the app (Android) and nonfunctional geofence feature (never arms when my phone leaves the wifi network, worthless as a setting because the camera status never changed from "disarmed" regardless of how far away I was). The system went down this week on the first day I really needed to monitor my apartment (maintenance was opening the apartments for painting contractors to come in units and repaint exterior doors and patios property-wide). The android app is now requesting access to the contact list on my phone...I sent a query to arlo (netgear) support asking why the app needs to access the contacts, have yet to receive response regarding this. Call center rep kept trying to walk me through set up of a new arlo account when I called and asked about the unnecessary app permission...unsure if language barrier prevented her comprehension of the reason for my call. That said it has some neat features and no monthly service charge for the cloud storage...scratch my earlier comment about email response, I see that I just got a survey asking me how they did on my support call earlier this week along with another email at same time advising me that service was restored and my support case has been closed...I guess deflection of my question/issue is better than no response. I have been unplugging the cameras when I am home, for some semblance of privacy after reading about NetGear's inherent vulnerabilities and the backdoors built into their code...per a kasperksy labs writeup from several years ago...(that I took with a grain of salt since the US banned government use of Kaspersky anti-virus software last December)...Try a Nest (as if google would be any better) or one of the less expensive options available, there is also the hard drive and private camera network option that allows you to maintain your own secure recording storage...

Frustrating until you get two functioning cameras

I'm convinced Netgear produced a lot of Arlo-Q duds in manufacturing. Tech support is off-shore only, and troubleshooting can be frustrating. You don't know if it's a poor setup in the home, or a malfunctioning camera. If you can get escalated to Netgear's advanced support, they will drag out the troubleshooting process with you for weeks & weeks before admitting the camera is flawed. Hopefully, it's not too late to exchange them! I had to go through three 2-pks to get a box with two non-defective cameras. They're a delight when they're working, but the cameras are FUSSY. TEMPERMENTAL even. I could only recommend the Arlo-Q cameras if you're willing to continue exchanging them until you get two reliable units. Additionally, prepare for a potentially complicated learning curve, realizing you'll often know more about camera functionality than Netgear support reps.

I tried this camera out when I had to seen my old camera out for service for 3 weeks. I use this camera at my mother home who live in Iowa. My old camera was 90 prevent better then this camera, and can't wait for the repair to get done. This camera has a 5 min delay time. From the time of recording the motion. And when you use the 2 way speaker there is a 2 min wait time before the system allows you to speak into the mic. Then it had another 2 min delay before the camera send the sound to camera. I called the company support team. They was the worst people I ever talk to. I had one question and took two hour and 9 people to help I got transferred to 8 tech. Then had to call again. I have the first Arlo for outside I love it but this one I hate. I could not afford the Alto pro 2 they said it was better then the q. I would not buy the Arlo q. If I could return I would.

Love Arlo now... hate the originals

      • My Best Buy® MemberMember

I have a 10 camera Arlo system. I have had the Arlo camera system for well over a year now. I love Arlo. I am not a fan of the Arlo Q or Arlo "wirefree" cameras. I have 2 Arlo Qs, 1 Arlo Pro 2, 4 Arlo Pros and 3 of the old Arlo Wirefree cameras. The wirefrees and the Qs have the same problem.. over time the built-in filter that activates at night gets stuck. This means you either have no night vision or a pink tint when viewing videos. It's a well documented complaint and something Netgear solved when they created the Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 models. Both of the newer cameras do not use the filter and therefore avoid the issue of it sticking. AVOID THE OLDER ARLO Q and ARLO WIREFREE (No rechargeable batteries) CAMERAS.

I paired this into my Samsung SmartThings system and it works great! I was able to set an automation where if the front door sensor is opened it will automatically take a 30 second video clip of who is entering. I'm also able to use the camera to keep an eye on the dog while I'm at work. The two way audio seems to lag a bit but it's better than nothing. I think the price for the camera is a bit high but the system itself works good. Overall I'm happy with my purchase!

Arlo Q Indoor Security Camera Set

      • Verified PurchaserVerified Purchase
      • My Best Buy® Elite MemberElite Member

Set up for the cameras was relatively easy. Monitoring via smart phone or computer while away from home was as simple as clicking on the Arlo icon and logging into the account. Unfortunately, one of the cameras stopped working just two weeks after installation. Best Buy replaced both cameras because they were purchased as a 2-pack set. I will change the Overall Rating to Excellent if the new cameras last longer.

I recently purchased and connected NETGEAR - Arlo Q Indoor 1080p HD Wi-Fi Security Camera (2-Pack) and signed up to receive emails for noise and movement as I am using it to watch over a dog who has seizures. The only problem with the notifications is I receive one email for every sound and movement so I had turn it off. I want to read further to see if I can change the settings to work for a certain period of time during the day.
