Loved this game!
||Posted .I was pleasantly surprised by how big this world is and the massive number of quests that you can choose to complete (or not!). I am 20 hours into the game and I am still roaming around the islands in awe and might have only completed about 10% of the story mode. Whenever you are heading to a story quest you will be distracted by a side quest nearby and I will always choose to do the side quests because they are fun. From helping a lone stranger to helping entire nations to fight battles, Odyssey has it all. There has been alot of fuss about the microtransactions in the game and I think they are coming from people who are not interested in the side quests and just want to move on with the story. Ubisoft created this massive world for us and to not engage in the side quests is really a waste of their efforts. I have no problem of leveling up using in-game xp as of now and have never visited the store to purchase any packs. if you want to get lost in a massive open world and climb on to the statue of Zeus, get this game! It's simply awesome.

Overall a fun game, but tough for beginners
||Posted .So far I'm having a great time with this game. I've only played Assassin's Creed 4 before (and loved it) but it had been several years, so getting back into the swing of things hasn't been super-easy. I had forgotten about the weird "modern" connection that these games have, so that surprised me but jogged my memory fairly quickly. The 'moves' seem different this time as well (but that could be just because I've been playing nothing but Spider-Man for the past month ha-ha). It's taken some getting used to, but I seem to be picking it up again pretty quickly. The aesthetics are gorgeous. It seems to be taking advantage of everything the PS4 can do. Greece looks amazing, and the visuals of the game are really impressive. There is a TON of stuff to do. There's a main storyline to play, as well as dozens of side quests to pick up that are pretty fun. The toughest part is learning the "moves" of combat--especially (I discovered) if you venture off from the main quest too early. I found myself in a cave with none of the early tutorial tips popping up and dying pretty easily. The tips are shown if you continue the main mission, but if you stop on a side quest before-hand you're on your own. It's a small complaint (and one I've mostly already overcome) but it's something to be aware of. If heard complaints about "micro-transactions" but the only ones I've done are with credits I've already had on my account (for a very long time I guess, since I had no idea haha--I think it's from playing AC4 years back), and the in-game items seem to be more than adequate to hold your own in combat. Overall this is a beautiful, fun game that has a slightly difficult learning curve. I haven't played a ton of the main story yet, but I don't typically play "open world" games for the main story anyway--so long as game play is fun I'm pretty happy just roaming and questing/killing stuff. Game play in this one has been really fun so far (even if the controls get a bit wonky from time-to-time...I find my avatar getting 'hung' on items quite a bit, but it's not a real detriment to gameplay).

Play as Cassandra
||Posted .Owned for 8 months when reviewed.I struggled to finish many AC games except Black Flag which I absolutely loved. Odyssey is as good if not better than Black Flag. I put in 100 hours plus on it and forced myself to play something else after. Do yourself a favor and play as Cassandra as I believe it provides a better gaming experience.

Much better than I expected.
||Posted .I have to admit, this game blew my expectations out of the water. I haven't played any Assassin's Creed games before, but I have played other UbiSoft games, and I was expecting a bug-riddled, microtransaction-pushing mess. I wouldn't have picked it up if my wife hadn't been excited about the ancient greece setting, but I'm really glad I did. While we have encountered bugs, they've been mostly minor and had minimal impact on gameplay (though the game did crash on her once), and the microtransactions aren't being thrown around in your face. I did have some concerns about the grind after reading some reviews recommending the XP boost, but it hasn't really felt that way to me at all, though I'm the type that generally tends to abandon the main quest for side quests until I run out. I started the game on hard and I feel it's a reasonable challenge - different enemies require different strategies and there are usually multiple ways that you can clear an area, according to your play style. I'm thoroughly enamored of the naval combat, I've been told it's similar to Black Flag, so maybe I'll check that one out as well.
