So far I'm having a great time with this game. I've only played Assassin's Creed 4 before (and loved it) but it had been several years, so getting back into the swing of things hasn't been super-easy.
I had forgotten about the weird "modern" connection that these games have, so that surprised me but jogged my memory fairly quickly. The 'moves' seem different this time as well (but that could be just because I've been playing nothing but Spider-Man for the past month ha-ha). It's taken some getting used to, but I seem to be picking it up again pretty quickly.
The aesthetics are gorgeous. It seems to be taking advantage of everything the PS4 can do. Greece looks amazing, and the visuals of the game are really impressive.
There is a TON of stuff to do. There's a main storyline to play, as well as dozens of side quests to pick up that are pretty fun.
The toughest part is learning the "moves" of combat--especially (I discovered) if you venture off from the main quest too early. I found myself in a cave with none of the early tutorial tips popping up and dying pretty easily. The tips are shown if you continue the main mission, but if you stop on a side quest before-hand you're on your own.
It's a small complaint (and one I've mostly already overcome) but it's something to be aware of.
If heard complaints about "micro-transactions" but the only ones I've done are with credits I've already had on my account (for a very long time I guess, since I had no idea haha--I think it's from playing AC4 years back), and the in-game items seem to be more than adequate to hold your own in combat.
Overall this is a beautiful, fun game that has a slightly difficult learning curve. I haven't played a ton of the main story yet, but I don't typically play "open world" games for the main story anyway--so long as game play is fun I'm pretty happy just roaming and questing/killing stuff. Game play in this one has been really fun so far (even if the controls get a bit wonky from time-to-time...I find my avatar getting 'hung' on items quite a bit, but it's not a real detriment to gameplay).

Great game, great HDR, but super similar to Origin

This game is so very similar to Origins. I would say in some ways the graphics are better, but not by much. Mainly the non-important characters look better, and the audio work and voice acting seems slightly better, as well as the videos for quests seem to have better pacing.
The game has a huge map and a lot of side missions like Origins to keep you from going through the main storyline to fast, and some of them are actually fun. Combat is of course repetitive, but also quite immersive and fun. I like riding horses, using The Eagles, hunting animals, riding on the boats, and much more to do in the game.
Also, the water looks amazing, and there are even sharks and whales in the ocean. The HDR and world is so beautiful and breath taking.

Assassin's 'Wow' Odyssey

To start I'll admit, I've not followed the Assassin's Creed games very close since AC 1-3 then, I didn't play another one until Black Flag which was my favorite AC game...until...THIS IMPRESSIVE GAME! Although I saw the hype for AC Origins it really didn't appeal to me until I saw the world, ship battles and immersion of AC Odyssey. The graphics of this game are gorgeous, the world is massive and the game play is near perfect. The story elements are immersive and the character animations are mesmerizing.
Since I am only able to give four stars or five stars I am giving this five stars but really I would give it 4.5 stars. I think it deserves the 4.5 stars because it is phenomenal but not perfect. I've come across some minor glitching in certain areas and the voice acting is good but not great. Kassandra is definitely the stronger of the two and Alexios' voice, in my opinion, does not fit his character model at all.
Overall it really is a revolutionary game. I love that I can stop the ship anywhere and go deep sea diving for treasure or weapons while battling sharks or swimming past a whale. Another impressive feat is that the lands I travel to are so large and expansive that traveling via ship truly does feel like I am traveling to a great distant land. In my experiences I've traveled to a new land and then I end up spending 8 to 10 hours on that land following story missions and doing side quests. The world of Odyssey is intriguing and the god-like statues throughout the game and their real world counter parts are enjoyable to see in their pristine glory. I genuinely feel like I am in the greek/roman time period.
Again, great game...as you've already heard...give it a whirl.

I had reservations about a new Assassin's Creed being released a year after 2017's fantastically fun Assassin's Creed Origins.
Like a lot of gamers, I thought, "how will this be different from last year?"
I took the chance and bought Odyssey on launch day and I haven't regretted the purchase. The visuals are breathtaking in this Greece setting. The plot is solid and allows you to play as a male or female. I recommend playing as Kassandra because her facial animations and dialogue are more fluid compared to the male.
This Assassin's Creed really embraces the open world RPG mechanics. And when I say open world, I mean a huge world that allows you to explore and appreciate the littlest details! You can sail the seas and enjoy watching dolphins or whales jumping out from the water in the distance before engaging in an intense battle with a rival ship. Or you can jump on a horse, gallop across the land and feed the hunger of curiosity as you explore temples that have secret chambers that provide rare weapons or armor. There's a lot to do.
I'm playing this on a PS4 Pro and it is simply jaw-dropping but Odyssey still looks remarkable if you are playing this on a standard PS4 or Xbox One.
My only complaint would be that there's an odd loading time when you swap between 'Eagle Vision' and back to your character. This never happened in Origins and it's annoying because it snaps me out of my 'moment'.
The game is complemented by the audio details that really pop if you are using a headset or have a nice soundbar.
As we round out this gen of gaming, Assassin's Creed Odyssey is evidence that there are still beautiful games to be enjoyed.
Happy Gaming.

This is basically the most complete Assasin's Creed you'll ever play (so far). This game has it all, it's a well rounded open world in every sense, the story is well crafted and the incorporation of Ikarus as your eagle sight makes it great, the graphics are mind blowing and you can ride horses, submerge in the water, board ships and have naval battles with other ships. One new thing I've found about this game is that your decisions affect the story in a big way, so be careful making choices. This game will be remembered as one of the best of all time because it is, like I said it is the ultimate complete game.

Epic Game!
The Assassin’s Creed series has outdone themselves yet again with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey! Set during the Peloponnesian War between Sparta and Athens, players not only get to choose the gender of their character (either Alexios or Kassandra), but also what city they support! By destroying enemy supplies, pillaging, and deposing national leaders, players can turn the tide of war for either city. Moreover, performing these actions will trigger a conquest battle with hundreds of Greek soldiers, captains, and mercenaries. Conquer an area for the city-state of your choosing and reap the fruit of enemy territory!
Odyssey also introduces a notoriety system, similar to that in other open-world games like GTA V. Essentially, you have the freedom to choose who you want to be: from a mercenary with a conflicted conscious to a ruthless psychopath, to everything in-between. However, should you choose to kill innocents, your reputation will degrade over time and you’ll be chased by increasingly difficult bounty hunters who seek a price on your head. Odyssey also employs an open dialogue system, whereby players influence in-game outcomes, such as in-game side missions, through dialogue options.
Players experience their freedom in arguably the Assassins’ Creed series’ most realistic open world. With your eagle you can explore ancient Greece’s colorful, picturesque, island landscape; it’s white-stone isles, autumnal forests, and arid deserts. Similar to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, players can once again recruit a crew, board, ram, and sink other ships! After conquering the Mediterranean, players can also conquer and tame wildlife for their bidding, such as attacking or causing a diversion in an enemy camp.
Fighting dynamics have also never been so seamless in the series. Players have access to a broad assortment of ancient Greek weapons, with a different combo attack against enemies. Lighter weapons will stun an enemy on the first blow, while heavier ones will knock them down. Weapons also have a ranking system, which means players can upgrade their simple blade into a legendary flaming sword! Newly introduced are hotkey buttons (e.g. Xbox D-pad) which host customizable weapons, inventory items, and attacks. Odyssey also integrates an ability hierarchy system similar to that of Assassin’s Creeds Origins. As you rank up, you will unlock outstanding abilities such as directing the flow of your arrow after it’s been shot.
Overall Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is an epic must-play. It expands upon the open-world of Origins, while offering an incredible unparalleled story of Ancient Greece! I am writing this review as part of a contest.

Holy crap.
I thought I was fatigued with this franchise after Unity but dang this game is so good. I did like Origins before this as well but this game does everything Origins did but better. The open-world of Ancient Greece is exquisite. I 100% completed the game and received the platinum trophy that is how enticing this game is. The combat is very good as is the story. Highly recommend. I just picked up the Atlantis dlc and can't wait to dive back into one of my favorite games of 2018.

Odyssey is the best Assassin's Creed Game. and One of the best games ever. 10/10 absolutely amazing, stunning, and extremely fun. I've played it all with the DLC twice, and I'm going to do it for a third time now. From the different and challenging gameplay, armor and weapons types and looks, leveling system, Ikaros Eagle vision, and highlighting enemies and items, ability to change how your armor and weapons look without changing the actual armor and weapons, the many awesome and unique abilities and their upgrades especially the no fall damage, bounty hunters, the breathtaking world, side missions, interesting characters, the gripping story, and the amazing score, it's all absolutely fantastic and very well done. This game is the perfect Assassin's Creed game out of Origins and Valhalla; it has everything you want, it's in the middle, so it's very developed and not the first new AC game like origins, and it didn't have great features removed and bad features added in like Valhalla. I would absolutely love something like Odyssey 2 or a game like it with those features and stuff I mentioned; those are the things that make it one of the best games ever.

With Origins, we saw a shift to Witcher 3 style RPG progression and game play and with Odyssey, the shift is complete. Both games are similar but the newest release offers branching paths, two playable characters to choose from. Fan favorite features such as attention to detail, parkour, assassinations and exquisite locales return. Kassandra is a fan favorite character and deservedly so. female assassins are not as common and the last one I enjoyed playing was Evie in Assassins Creed: Syndicate which is an amazing game in itself. the last of the classic series. anyways, Odyssey is worthy installment in the franchise and must be played by fans.

I've played all the AC games now, and this is probably my favorite. It plays about like Origins, only, considerably bigger, integrating the best parts of Black Flag's seagoing experience yet with an even larger, meticulously detailed land maps. Unlike Black Flag, there's virtually no island you can't thoroughly explore, no mountain you can't climb. They've made a few relatively minor changes since Origins, some for the better, some for the worse. And there's a fair bit of redundancy in character features, as if they used the same actors to play numerous different roles, but the maps are truly massive and so fun to explore, especially if you can delude yourself into thinking this is actually what ancient Greece was like, which I honestly have no idea how accurate it might be. But, it's awesome to adventure thru nonetheless.
Odyssey brings an enticing supernatural element to the AC franchise, featuring Greek legends of Atlantis, Medusa, the Minotaur, Cyclops... It's still got the usual Sci-fi sideline, but only infrequently ventures into the modern world - more like Origins; far less than early games in the franchise. I spent 2-4 hours every evening for about four months playing this game to platinum and there is still more I can do and may return for, both in add-on Atlantis quests, as well as a few sidemissions that come with the game, but just aren't trophy related.
Sadly, I can't quite recommend the game without some reservations. Our PS4 Pro encountered numerous game freezing bugs, the likes I haven't seen since playing Skyrim last generation. Nothing game ending, nor did it ever result in the game or system actually needing to restart, so no progress was ever lost. But every now and again the game would just bog down to a crawl, nearly freezing your character in slow motion for a minute or three, until things would speed up again. It didn't appear to be a loading error related to venturing into new territory. It was more like the sophisticated enemy tracking was glitching or something. It could be extremely annoying when it happened, but fortunately, always corrected itself eventually and rarely happened more than once in the same session. I should also caution that the developers chose to include rather unnecessary romantic story options in this game, and quite a few of them, as if they thing gamers are so sheltered they actually want that kind of virtual experience in their gaming these days. With the ability to play as either a male or female character, it can lead to some rather complicated, if not annoying character interactions, especially with one of the main characters being stereotypically flamboyant.
All said and done, I can't wait for AC's next game. The convoluted, rather disingenuous storylines still aren't worth following, but what the writing lacks, the game makes up for in it's massive, virtually unlimited exploration in such an intricately, beautifully rendered open world.

The story is good, better than Origins. Tons of content to take part in. Takes elements from some of the other games (Naval battles from Black Flag and the world content like Origin had). Have to be a little careful sometimes on how you go about stuff as to not get a massive bounty on your head, or you get a high level bounty hunter after you. Very fluid combat and easy to learn.

I read a lot of reviews, and I was worried about the leveling "grind" and the enemy AI. Not a problem for me. The game is loads of fun, and the upgraded combat ability system, as well as the customizable gear, simply add to the "fun" factor. I don't mind playing hours of side missions because it's just plain fun. If you are patient, get good at isolating your opponents and dodging, and using other tactics, it is DEFINITELY possible to defeat opponents who are 2-3 levels above you. The map is immense, seafaring is fun, it's like they combined all the best elements of the previous games and upgraded a couple others. The ONLY thing from previous games that this one doesn't match is the absolutely epic seafaring of Black Flag, but that is a high bar and that game was seafaring-centric. I highly recommend this AC.

At first glance I thought this was just an expansion set to the previous iteration of Assassin's Creed because I did not see any eye-popping new features on E3. So I waited out till it went on sale. When I started playing this game I realized I'm totally wrong. There is much more content to play, many more features, and the game-play mechanics have become a lot more enjoyable than before! I get to try out and explore a lot of weapons as all have their unique advantages in different use cases. As in Origin, all I needed was a good predator bow and a charged shot that aimed for enemy's head and by the time I entered a location, everyone was pretty much dead.
The story is much richer, as compared to the Origin's linear story line. You don't have to be that hero of justice all the time as you are now a mercenary who works for his/her own profit. You can choose a side or do not choose a side at all and play double-spy, etc. All in all, quite an enjoyable game to play! 5 stars.

I love the Assassins Creed series and never had a problem with yearly releases and don't care about similarities between the new release and past titles as every entry is beautifully done and gives a window into the culture they are indulging themselves in.
I had really wanted an ancient China scenario with some martial arts and was not very excited about a journey to Greece but after playing for 10 hours I will say easily this is graphically the most beautiful in the series and the story is very engaging. More combat focused than previous titles which is a nice change. The RPG element is also a nice addition and the franchise continues to grow and evolve.
