Great Bang For Your Buck
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for work/gaming @ $899 and really like it. The design is clean and visually pleasing. The system speed/performance is lightning quick across the board. I’ve played all my games at max settings with no problems including Sims 4, Doom Eternal, League of Legends, Valorant and MTG Arena. When I first started the laptop, the fan noise was incredibly loud but you can change to a silent mode in the Armory App that comes preinstalled. The display is okay. 144hz would have been nice, but it isn’t a deal breaker. It’s not really noticeable and doesn’t affect my gaming experience. Still worth the price imo. My only real complaint is the 8gb single channel memory. I went to Amazon and got a great deal on 16GB DDR4 3200 Dual Channel ram. Made a world of difference. Overall, I’d buy this again. Just the hardware and price is hard to match anywhere else, especially with what’s available due to Covid-19. Upgrade the ram for sure and you’ve got a powerful gaming laptop at a fraction of the cost.

A great deal if you understand what you’re getting
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop has pretty much the fastest laptop processor you can currently buy. I can’t think of a single one that is faster that’s under $3,000 or maybe even over. I really can’t think of one.. It beats out most desktop processors also. The RTX 2060 is perfectly adequate for any game currently out at max settings at 1080p for 60+ FPS. The screen is crisp and clear and the colors look perfectly fine. This isn’t a perfectly accurate display but if you need that you aren’t buying a $999 gaming laptop anyways. You could connect this to an external display and run esport titles at 144hz easily if you are into that sort of thing. Again if you are super super into that I doubt you are buying a $999 laptop. Corners had to be cut somewhere to get one of, if not the fastest laptop processor currently on the market and an RTX 2060 under $1000. The corners cut are the battery is smaller, while this may be a negative for most I view this as a positive, because with the extra space you get an empty 2.5” hard drive bay to add tons of extra storage. The screen is 60hz instead of 144hz. Again at this price point with the other high end specs, that just isn’t realistic to expect. Also this laptop only ships with a single stick of 8gb of ram. This absolutely needs 16gb. Luckily enough, a kit of 16gb dual channel 3200mhz is easily bought on most computer hardware websites for well under $70. (I recommend buying the kit and just reselling the stick that comes with it. But don’t get any slower than 3200mhz.) You could pay an extra $200-300 and get all 3 of these extra things. But that puts this in another pricing category and other brands become an option at that point. If you just want a laptop with the absolute fastest hardware you can get for the money, a price to performance ratio beast, this is the best you are going to do. The processor is down right ridiculous. 8 cores 16 threads of insanity that Intel can’t seem to match. This makes this laptop perfect for hardcore editing 4k and huge raw photos, rendering videos, etc. of course you will need to add extra ram but that’s simply a few screws and a click away. Ram is cheap enough. What you are buying here is the processor and graphics card. And you are getting it under a grand. The keyboard is great, the rgb is a nice plus, the speakers are about what you would expect. They work and that’s about it. Track pad is fine, of course you won’t be using it for much unless you are on the go. The build quality is actually good. It has a rugged look, the top cover is some type of metal and everything else is a tough feeling plastic. It says it’s military grade on the sticker inside the laptop, not sure about that. But it does feel tougher than average. TLDR. You sacrifice 144hz, bugger batter and a bit of ram. It for under a $1000 you get the fastest laptop processor available and a very respectable graphics card in the rtx 2060. This price to performance ratio can’t be beat. If your wanting these extras you have to spend more. Picture attached shows upgrade options.

Loving it
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this since I was looking for a gaming laptop for the the travels next year. So I got this after looking at other gaming units even the nitro they all had 1060 and other highest end units but never had anything close to the 2060 and the newest amd cpu. So only did what other recommended got an extra ram stick and added another m.2 stick plus this does have the smaller battery since it has the space for extra hard drive. So the battery really only gives u 2 hours of heavy gaming and did get the highest score for gaming laptop just with the ram upgrade lol kinda cool in 3D mark. But only draw back is the screen but u can upgrade that too 120hz if u really want to. But when am in on my trips I have. Derby1080gt gaming projector that fit in my backpack for the travels. So with this is great don’t expect 4K gaming at ultra but good enough. Over all I come from a 6,000 gaming pc u built a few years back and this great for school and games plus the better durability then a basic laptop frame.

Powerful laptop at a affordable price!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus TUF A15 is one of the most exciting gaming laptops that I wanted consider. This laptop is pack to the brim with powerful technology at an affordable price. CPU and GPU The TUF FA506IV Gaming Laptop comes with AMD’s latest mobile processors, the 4000 series. The 4000 series are cooler, faster, and more powerful than its intel competitors. It also comes with NVidia RTX 2060 graphics for ray tracing support at below 1000 dollars! A never seen deal in RTX laptops. Memory: This laptop is rocking an 8 GB single channel ram setup. I would recommend you upgrade the ram to 16 GB dual channel by placing another 8 GB ram in there. The benchmarks and game test I will be doing below is all with 16 GBs of ram. Storage: With storage, it comes with 512 GB Western Digital M.2 SSD. There is also another slot M.2 slot where you can expand your drive capacity. Crystal Disk Mark shows that this SSD can Read up to 2473.66 MB/s and write up to 1790.57 MB/s. Really Fast! Screen: The screen is a 1080p 60 HZ display with bright enough screen with a color accuracy of 62.1% sRGB, 43.2% AdobeRGB, 44.3% DCI P3. Really good for a powerful budget laptop! Battery This model comes with a 48 Watt hour battery. For battery Life I saw a 6-hour usage of watching YouTube and doing light tasks (night and day compared to my old laptop at 30 minutes). Gaming on this laptop with get you around one hour (AMAZING!!). Temperature and Cooling: A lot of people have problems with this laptops cooling. However, I did not experience this issue. When gaming on Turbo mode, I saw a max temperature of 87C on the CPU and 80C on the RTX 2060. These are well below the temperature limit of both. At idle, the laptop stayed around 37C for CPU and 42C for GPU on silent mode and the fans turn off too. Near the back you can see two exhaust and an air intake in the middle. The laptop has another exhaust on the right side of the laptop. The keyboard also acts as an air intake and the WASD area stays cool to the touch during intense gaming. Keyboard and Trackpad: The keyboard feels really nice like Asus’s higher tier ROG laptops, and the RGB on the keyboard is a single zone addressable RGB adjustable in Armory Crate. When plug in and in sleeping mode, the keyboard will produce an exciting light show! The track pad is high quality and the click buttons are dedicated with a very satisfying click This laptop does not gather finger prints and it is very easy to wipe clean. Design and ports: The back panel on this laptop is made with metal and have the TUF logo laser on the panel, it looks really slick and does not spit gamer when using It for work or school. Overall this laptop looks really tuf and could withstand a drop here or there in school or work place. For ports, on the right you get a single USB slot, on the left you get the charge port, Ethernet, 2 USB, one USB type c, and headphone combo jack. This is a really neat design choice as no wires will interfere with your mouse on the right side. On the bottom of the laptop you will see a really cool honeycomb design with air intakes designed into it. Lastly, this laptop is really light weight coming in at 4.73 LB for the laptop and 6.42 LB for the laptop and the charger. It’s easy to carry compared to my old laptop. Entry level PC that works with Oculus Quest
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this PC to use with my Oculus Quest. I wanted something that could run VR applications and games. I know I could have gotten more bang for my buck going with a desktop, but needed a laptop because my computer room is too small to play VR applications, so needed something I could take to larger spaces, such as my garage. I am happy to report that this laptop has handled everything I've thrown at it. For less than $900, I couldn't be happier. Since I am using it primarily for VR, the 60 Hz screen is not an issue. The fan does get quite loud, and I use a cooling pad to further pull heat away, as it it does run very hot when using with VR. So far, I've kept it connected to power while gaming, so can't speak to the battery life, but I can't imagine getting more than an hour. For non gaming applications; internet, word processor, etc., the battery lasts for a little 3 hours with settings set to battery saver. I did replace the ram with a stick of 16gb and added a 1TB hdd. However, before doing it was already running solidly. Even with the extra money spent, still easily within my budget. My only complaint, as others have mentioned, is the track pad. It is atrociously inconsistent. I can be scrolling along, and then it becomes completely unresponsive, both to swipes and taps. I connected a USB mouse to it to bypass this issue.

Good-to-knows from a recent buyer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1. The default touchpad driver is really bad - regularly-completely-ignores-swipes level of bad. BUT, you can quickly and easily switch the driver, which fixes the issues. Google around for instructions. 2. You can upgrade to 64GB RAM max (2x 32GB). By default, one slot is empty and the other has an 8GB DDR4-3200 stick. It's $30 for a second 8GB DDR-3200 stick, so note that this is actually a $1030 16GB computer. (That RAM upgrade is mandatory. It's the value equivalent of going from 1080p to 4k for $30). This thing is lighter and sleeker than I expected. It is also only a little bit gaudy; once you turn off the keyboard RGB lights, it's almost classy enough to use as your work computer. It's fast, as expected. It's also completely quiet and not hot if you're not gaming. Definitely a laptop that you can actually use on your lap.

A zippy little monster with a sleek, cool design
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here's my detailed review: I bought this gaming laptop at the end of October 2020 to keep me sane through the winter and because I needed a new PC. I can safely say I am 95% satisfied with my purchase. I bought it on an early Black Friday sale so I got it for $200 off the original retail price. Everyone is looking for something different, and at times, very specific things when they're buying gaming units such as this one. Mine were: -Needs to be at least an i7 or Ryzen 7 processor -Needs to have at least 512 GB and be an SSD as opposed to an HDD for storage, as SSD is much faster and more efficient -Needs to have a killer graphics card (this is one of the best ones, if not THE best one you can currently get in a gaming PC before you have to start spending unnecessarily large amounts of money to get a better one stock, in a PC) -Needs to have at least 16 GB of RAM (I know, keep reading) -As a bonus, was heavily seeking one that has a light up RGB / color changing keyboard So, in other words, this met ALL of my criteria, minus the fact that this only included 8 GB of RAM. However, out of all the computer components that are upgradable, RAM is by far the easiest and least expensive to upgrade, so I went with this, and luckily my birthday was around the corner, so after receiving it as a gift, I upgraded the RAM to not just 16, but 32 GB of G.Skill Ripjaws RAM, which ran my generous gift giver around $100 and change. Just as a side note, (and I was told this by a close friend who is an expert at building monster gaming desktop and laptop computers), 16 GB of RAM would have more than sufficed in this laptop, but to understand my motive in getting this laptop, I wanted to ensure that my laptop would be both fast, and relevant, in the years to come, and some of the lesser priced options best buy, or anyone carries for that matter, would simply not suit that motive. The light up keyboard is a very nice, attractive, piece of eye candy they added to an already very nearly maxed out set of specs. My only (minor) complaint with the keyboard, is that it has yet to be compatible with the armoury crate add on, known as "Aura Creator", which allows you to create a very cool, customizable pattern, or patterns, for your keyboard lights. (Armory Crate is an accessory software that comes with this line of Asus computers.) In other words, you have a cool light up keyboard, you certainly can change it around and customize it in the pre-installed armoury crate software, but, you don't get the luxury of that truly custom Aura Creator software (at least, not yet). I am holding out hope that this model will eventually be added and be compatible with that add on, as, when you go on the Aura Creator website, it states that it is still in beta development. The keyboard itself feels very nice, light, but still sturdy and high quality when using it to type. The light up keys are a plus when I'm playing Old School Runescape at night and chatting with my fellow Runescapians, as it helps me to see where to place my fingers in the dark. Another complaint I do have, which, if I could deduct 3/4 of a star for this, I would, is, the track pad on the laptop tends to jump around at times. If I am using my finger on the track pad, and I'm about to scroll over and click on something, the track pad, more or less, spazzes out a bit, doesn't go where I want it to, and to get it to reset, I usually take a few fingers and move them over the track pad back and forth rapidly to kind of shake it back into submission so it works properly again. This can definitely get annoying, and being someone that prefers using the track pad over using a separate mouse, since I usually just have my laptop, well, on my lap, I really wish there was a solid way to fix this problem, but I have yet to see any solution according to the reviews I read both before and after I purchased and started using this. Many people have stated they wind up using a mouse over the track pad anyway, so for them, it is not an issue. As for me, *sigh* I suppose for now I'll simply have to deal with it, or perhaps, if it is not a physical issue with the track pad itself, then, hey Asus, you may want to look into releasing a driver update for this, if it's just an internal/software glitch *hint hint*, or start offering your loyal customers to fix your faulty track pads. Anyway, the 15.6 inch screen also makes this laptop much more desirable than your lowly 13-14 inch screens, so this is the perfect size for gaming on the go, but it's not as big as your 17 inch screens, which some may prefer, but I say it starts to lose comfortable portability once the screen size gets any bigger than this. Some people might be bothered by the screen resolution not being totally top notch / 4K quality / close to 4K quality, but it still honestly looks really great, and easy on the eyes, and the screen quality is plenty fine for me. I mean, come on, it's 2021 now, and it's not as if the screen quality is anywhere close to reminiscent of what you'd see from a cellphone video from the mid to later 2000's, it's just not the best of the best in terms of today's standards in screen resolution (keep in mind, we even have 8K TVs now) Another bonus with this laptop, is the fact that its a TUF book. I had not the slightest idea what exactly that meant when I was looking into it, until I actually picked it up from the store, and opened it with my PC building friend, and he recognized the line right away. It is exactly as it sounds; it's "TUF." In some cases, dropping it won't cause nearly as much risk of damage, because of the physical material the unit was built with, and even boasts a "MIL 810H" military grade sticker on the base of the computer when you unbox it. I am always very careful with my things, especially my electronics, but this feature just provided more peace of mind, and might be a perfect choice for someone who's known to be a bit clumsier with their belongings. Also, this thing just does not get hot. To be fair, I don't play SUPER graphics intensive games, but when I do play something that definitely utilizes the graphics card and processor, this laptop does not appear to ever overheat. I bought a light up RGB cooling fan that goes really nicely with this, and I can safely say at this point I really just use it out of an abundance of unfounded caution, and because it looks cool underneath the laptop because of the lights. So, what can I say? Overall, this thing is really just a zippy little monster, with a sleek cool design. In terms of getting the kinds of specs you're seeing in this laptop, you won't really find a much better priced laptop for what you're getting. While Asus should really be looking into a fix for the track pad issue, the power this machine packs for the price being asked is nearly unmatched, and plus, it looks really sweet. This will likely be my gaming laptop for years to come, until technology gets so far ahead that an upgrade will be imperative.

Q: QuestionWhat are some compatible RAM sticks? I was told and read that not every DDR4 3200mhz work. Any suggestions? I saw some Crucial 3200mhz CL22 (CT2K16G4SFD832A) that might work. But I’ve been told the one that only works was was the HyperX (HX432S20IBK).
Asked by Emob.
- A:Answer Make sure it's 1.2V and 3200MHz. I'm personally using a 32GB kit of Kingston HyperX RAM and it runs great. I had to return the Crucial Ballistix I bought at first because it requires 1.35V to run at 3200MHz.

Q: QuestionAccording to the model number (FA506IV-BR7N12) this unit should come with a 90wh battery and 144hz screen, yet people are saying the opposite. What gives?
Asked by Austin.
- A:Answer Actually, since it is a Best Buy exclusive, it is a bit stripped down which provides for the lower cost. It has a 48wh battery and a 60hz screen.
Answered by DupreLives2Play
Q: QuestionIs the battery the 90Wh version or the 48Wh?
Asked by Parker.
- A:Answer I imagine it's the smaller battery. I'm guessing that's the trade-off for it being $999 instead of the $1099 that was announced for the RTX 2060. But I'd love to hear an official answer to confirm.
