    Updates cause bad rap

This machine is probably the best value in its price range. The hardware is more than capable of doing most anything the average user is going to do. The case is of average build quality for its price range and though it feels a bit flimsy, it should hold up well. The screen is decent and the speakers are fantastic. Battery life is about average as well. I see that there are a few issues with shutting down. I suspect that this could partially be due to the fact that it uses a keyboard key for a power button. It's very easy to brush it and the screen goes off instantly, though the machine is still on. I'm sure that there could be hardware issues causing this issue as well. I would think that a weak power key return spring could cause much havoc. Since It appears that many of the cheap computers are using this design as well, it is probably going to be a problem across many brands. I've also read about it being sluggish and unstable. I believe this is mostly due to windows updates running in the background. I have 8 computers of various brands and all of them have been struggling with the latest bunch of windows updates. These updates are not supposed to interrupt your usage but I have found that they have been causing all of my machines to be sluggish and unstable. If you leave the machine on for long periods of time while its not being used and restart it often, it should finish updates and it runs very well. Mine opens programs and webpages just about as fast as I can click on them. It plays video flawlessly and touch pad works very well. This machine surfs the web and runs all my programs as fast as my desktop with a 3.7ghz i3 and 8gb or ram. The only negative thing I can find with this machine is that the fan emits a low hum/buzz noise that can be annoying in a very quiet room. It's really not noticable while using the machine on a solid surface, but if you pick it up and hold it at various angles the volume increases and the character of the noise changes. Most people don't hold a computer of this size anyway, so it probably won't be an issue.

GREAT BUT WILL NEED SOME MODS...

SO this machine isn't perfect and please don't expect it to be. You're buying a $230.00 laptop don't think it's going to be lightning fast out of the box. It comes with Windows 10 and sadly it's a resource hungry operating system. The computer will be slow and have a rough time with more than one or two apps open at the same time. visually it looks great but it's hard to get past the speed issues. I really like windows but this laptop won't run it efficiently. if you have any computer skills what so ever you can side load a windows like version of Linux like Zorin Os or Chalet Os either is great for this machine and it will run lightning fast without issues and of course if you still need windows you can split the harddrive in half and use half for Linux and the other half for windows so you'll get the best of both worlds. I haven't had the issues that other people have had with the system just shutting off or not holding a charge. So far the hardware seems solid on this machine. For the people that are upset because this pc can't play dvds without buying special software, seriously people, we live in the age of the Internet. Go to any search engine and look up open source media player and get one for free. Don't give the pc a bad review just because you didn't do your research. Overall this is a great little PC and it was extremely cheap so i can't complain. I hope this helps out.

I bought this computer because it was inexpensive and it had overall good reviews. I just wanted a simple computer for very basic web browsing and word processing. Here was my experience and my advice to you: 1) It was slow. I went through and disabled all the bloatware that came installed on the product, but the computer was still running out of resources just running the operating system. It was literally running 100% CPU and 100% Disk Usage. 2) It makes a terrible noise. It sounded like a it had a little engine inside it. That just made me nervous about the longevity of the product. 3) Cheap construction. It's hard to describe, but you'll know what I mean if you decided to purchase it. It just feels like it had low quality components . 4) Every finger print shows. To be fair, I would have kept the computer if this was the main problem. It was really just the straw that broke the camels back. After the first day, I had finger prints showing all over the lid. It just made it look dirty. I read some of these points from other reviews but decided to purchase it anyway. I'm not sorry I purchased it, because now I feel better about spending a little more on something that will last me longer. My advice to you if you really want to buy it is to buy from a store that you know will accept a return, and save all the packaging and your receipt for a while. That way you can evaluate it for yourself and make your own decision without the risk of being stuck with a bad product. I hope this review helps.

    Asus X541NA-PD1003Y

17DEC2017. Worst computer purchase since 1992 and DOS 3.0. Bought this ASUS X541NA-PD10003Y for my Mother a week ago, she is not a power user like I am. Within 24 hours the Wi-Fi disconnected twice (Win10 Wi-Fi set to Wi-Fi Performance, Sleep/Hibernate disabled). I uninstalled the network controller, rebooted, let Win10 reinstall it, downloaded and installed Network Drivers from ASUS website, Wi-Fi still randomly disconnects (never seen this on any priced system). Chatted with ASUS online, no resolution, they said likely a bad computer (hardware rarely fails, except hard drives, I suspect their drivers are poorly coded). Today, 17DEC2017, we noticed that when running on battery only and moving the screen slightly, the computer shutdown completely despite a full battery charge (imagine working on a long document which had not been saved!..total loss of data!!!, unacceptable!). Seems that when on battery power, the device loses connection to the battery. Returning this garbage computer today, to Best Buy to exchange for an HP with an Intel Gen7/I5 processor, double the HD at 1TB and double the RAM at 8GB for only $150 more. Wasted 2 days installing MS Office, Adobe CC, and other software I install on all systems. I am using Acronis software to backup the entire drive including the Master Book Record (including Win10 and all software data installed, will reduce my setup of the replacement system from 2 days to about 2 hours.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my wife, 3 days after the she plugs it up? The charger stops working, after getting an RMA and getting it mailed to a repair center, the first 33 days of checking the status, I get in touch with customer service, they keep saying my case is being escalated, why? Because they say they haven’t received the charger yet, so after checking with the post office, and confirming it was delivered to the address ASUS supplied me, ANOTHER 15 days pass, they still say they haven’t received charger, so NOW they’re demanding proof of delivery from the post office, which they don’t do with regular mail, so I get a case number and the tracking information and forward it to asus. 9 days later? They send an email saying it was delivered to the WRONG ADDRESS, mind you? It’s the address THEY TOLD ME TO SEND THE CHARGER TO!!! and they say it’s the wrong address because they only receive mail at ONE DOOR behind the building, next to the receiving dock, not the front of the building, that’s marked with the address they sent me....I would avoid buying any asus product unless your content getting the run around from “customer support”.

Most worthless product I’ve ever bought from Best Buy, I understand it was cheap but I still expected it to atleast work without freezing up because it can’t handle more than two tabs open at a time. It’s so slow it’ll freeze in the middle of you typing a paper. (To the point now I usually go to the university library and rent one of theirs) Takes 3 billion years to open up anything on this. I feel like I’m back in the 90s, I can literally hear the processor and hard drive struggling to function at a reasonable speed. I would’ve taken it back if I didn’t get it as a gift, I made a point to download antivirus on it and everything to protect it but it’s worthless. Once I have enough money saved up to buy a different one I’m chucking this P O S off a balcony. Save your money, buy something better quality.

I would love to get my money back, but I know it will be a whole process. I bought an open box Asus laptop for a christmas gift. The price difference from a closed box to an open box was 20-30 (can’t recall the exact amount) I pay for an open box because it was certificated to be in functional conditions. What did I get? An open box with a laptop missing the charger and to make it worse, the laptop is not functional!! I spent additional money to buy a charger and try to solve the problem. The thing is that the laptop did not even work. It keeps shutting down even connected to the charger. It keeps throwing driver errors. I tried to fix this problem aswell with additional money, of course, so I went with a technician and it has no reparation!! So dissapointed, I was going to buy a laptop from eBay, but ended up choosing Best buy due to the great reviews this store has. Not a good experience at all. A total of $280 wasted.

Completely froze during first time use!

I needed to do a data transfer from my old laptop to a new laptop. My old laptop was a HP and honestly, it worked really well! Unfortunately, it fell off of my couch, causing the hard drive to not function properly. When choosing a new laptop I asked for one that was either the same quality of my old one or better. That is when they recommended the Asus. When I picked it up last night I charged it overnight and used it the next morning (this morning.) My first step was backing up my photos that they were able to save from my broken hard drive. They are still being uploaded to google photos and I started the back up at 8am (it is now 1:19pm) Figuring that may take a while I decided to install windows. Big mistake!!! Apparently the computer cannot multitask as it is completely frozen besides the pictures still backing up (I'm confused!)...After my photos backup I am returning this to the store. Everything I tried to do with this laptop either froze for a few minutes saying 'Not Responding' or did not work at all. I was hoping to be able to print out a few things for a Christmas gift, but it looks like that idea is out the window! I haven't even had it for 24 hours...Very disappointed...
