I have only tried three other phasers, a Behringer PH9 & their UP300 & a Voodoo Lab Microvibe. I don't know if the PH9 was defective as it had a ground hum & was actually microphonic when touched. I was unable to get the sound I wanted from the UP300, The Microvibe sounded good but it completely hollowed out the overall guitar sound when engaged and added too much treble. This throught a solid state Marshall VS8240 amp. The Microvibe sounded ok through an all tube amp however. Now for the VP1, it has a speed control and you can switch from a higher or lesser intensity with the use of a slide switch. The unit is true bypass when not in use & the foot switch button is momentary and doesn't click. I don't mind the no-click but it is different than hearing-feeling a click when you step on the switch. I can obatian a sort-of Trower sound with it that I'm happy with. Not that I play Trower songs but the slow almost wah-like sound is fun to hear when playing lead parts. The overall guitar's volume doesn't cut out when the effect is engaged. My only concern as I've seen in other reviews is the speed control knob, it feels loose if you were to wiggle it, but if you know that and only rotate it, it should be fine I would guess. It doesn't make noise when adjusted. It's a great sounding phaser for very little money and Best Buy offers free shipping & that was a bonus as well.
