What is a Best Buy home consultation?

A highly trained Best Buy Home Expert can meet with you in person at your home or in a store, by virtual appointment, via chat or by phone, providing a personalized solution for your technology and appliance needs. The Home Expert will review your space, ask questions to assess what type of solution would work best for you and the design of your home, and then draft a proposal based on that discussion. Upon approval of the recommendation, they will order products and set up the installation. After your project is complete, your Home Expert will follow up, answer any questions and assist with any of your future technology needs and desires. 

Are consultation services really free?

Yes, consultations from Best Buy are completely free. There is no obligation or pressure to buy, and we don’t add hidden costs to products or installations because you had a consultation. 

What is a Home Expert?

A Home Expert is a Best Buy employee who is incredibly knowledgeable about home technology and appliance solutions. They have received extensive training around all categories and brands within the Best Buy catalog, so they can provide unbiased solutions to fit your unique needs. And the best part: Your Home Expert is a single point of contact for all your technology needs — today, tomorrow and well into the future. 

What are the qualifications of a Home Expert?

Home Experts go through extensive, continued training on technology across the whole home, including home theater, appliances, smart home technology, networking, fitness and more.

How long does a consultation take?

Consultations usually last about 60–90 minutes.

What is not included in a home consultation?

Service requests, troubleshooting, repair, delivery, setup and/or installation are not included in your free consultation. But your Home Expert can help set up these services, or you can refer to Geek Squad® Services for any of these needs.

How do I schedule a consultation?

You can schedule your consultation by calling 1-800-548-0828, via online chat, through the online scheduler or by speaking with a Best Buy Associate in your local store. 

How is this different from Geek Squad service offerings?

Geek Squad services are engaged to fix, repair or install a solution that has been, in most cases, identified. The Home Expert consultation service allows you to see what is possible as we develop a personalized solution for your home. The consultation helps with the design of a solution, as well as product features, sizes and brands. Geek Squad services may be deployed to implement what you and your Home Expert think up together.
