Lag time on screen lock is insane!

PROS: I like the design especially the black phone color. There are good options for most of the features I use regularly. CONS: Lag time on lock screen; app widgets not showing up on lock screen even though that option is on in that app; the one volume setting for ALL media apps while you are in playback mode of an audiobook app is stupidly painful. Overall, I wish I'd never had to upgrade from my previous J7. If the auxiliary/earbud jack hadn't gone out, I would still be using my old J7. This new J7 seems to have more of a lag time when trying to get the unlock screen keyboard to show up so that the user can enter their pass code. I'm baffled why this is, but it did happen with the previous J7 as well only it seems more frequent on the J7 Perx. I was also disappointed that no earbuds came with this model forcing me to invest in a pair as yet another accessory that I had to buy. The loud volume default for ALL media apps while listening to an audiobook forced me to start using Do Not Disturb so my eardrums don't burst. This latter issue wasn't a problem on the previous J7 since the notifications from other apps were automatically reduced in volume while listening to any of my audiobook apps. I hate that the automatic volume reduction is no longer possible while in play mode of an audiobook app. After showing a Boost representative the issues I am having with the phone and her assessment that I may have a defective device, I am considering going through the hassle of sending it back to Samsung under the 1-year manufacturing warranty for a replacement. I wish Best Buy still had a reasonably priced protection plan because I normally buy it but didn't this time due to the pricing versus service value not meeting my criteria.

I hate this phone! Its going back tomorrow. For the price and how they claim if you loved the galaxy s5 youll love this just as much. NO NO NO. I've had this phone for about a month hoping it would het better. It constantly freezes, it has horrible lag time, someone calls and the screen turns black and by time i answer they are hangin up. i even paid for a internet upgrade for my house to see if that was the issue....NOPE. it took my about 25 mins just to type this b.c the freezing is so common. I would rather have an old school flip phone than this p.o.s. its bounces from screen to screen, god forbid your doing something on the internet and someone calls lol. I give this phone a negative 2. DONT BUY THIS PHONE

Galaxy J7 Prix is a downgrade

I have a 2016 version of the Galaxy J7 and picked this up thinking upgrade due to faster processor but after reviews and research I find this to be a downgrade. smaller rear camera, no front flash, no panoramic photo ability, no FM tuner, lower grade display (LCD vs AMOLED), less memory i.e. 2G+16G memory vs 16G memory, and least of all is the range of networks the J7 Prix can access is less so in other words roaming ability is reduced. I haven't personally experienced this but there are a lot of reviews I've read where the phone overheats and slows down. I'll return this and keep my J7 even with the slower processor and wait for the J8 maybe.

For those interested in the pay-as-you go plans with Boost, this phone is a good option. It offers the Nougat operating system (7.0) with a lot of the newer features. However, being a J series does limit some of what you get - no fingerprint id/log-in for example. You also may have limitations for upgrades when the 8.0 operating system rolls out. Those are the main reasons I downgraded to a 4 star rating. Otherwise, i'm pretty happy with this phone. The camera is actually pretty nice - 5 MP and it allows Android Auto app to run so you can easily sync it up to newer vehicles. Memory card can go up to 256G too, which gives you a lot of storage for music, photos, etc.

My son and I wanted new pre-paid phones, and we have both been fans of android phones as opposed to I-phones since we have had both over the years. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Perx (for Boost Mobile) was a great deal for the price we paid at Best Buy. It comes with a 5.5" HD screen, and is very fast even when running several apps simultaneously. My son asked me to write this for him as he chose this phone after researching it prior to our purchase. He is in his late teens and thus always has the phone in his hands. His research led me to purchase a different Samsung phone which I will review separately. Will definitely recommend the Samsung Galaxy J7 Perx 4G LTE to friends and family!

Bought this for son who had an LG phone that, although it was less than a year old, had degraded to where it would only last 3-4 hours before needing to be recharged and had developed other problems. He was fine using Boost, so I took a look at what was available and the Samsung J7 seemed to be the best choice under $200. The J7 is solidly built, has been lasting him between 1-2 days between charges, has a larger screen, more memory and is working really well for him. Only been using it for a month, but so far he is thrilled with it.

I originally purchased the J7 2015 version. It got VERY hot and I returned it the next day. I now have the 2016 Perx version and love it! I switched from a Galaxy S3 that was on its last leg. Much larger screen, hugely improved functionality, and the battery lasts a lot longer. So far I am very happy with it. My only issue is that it doesn't charge fully when on, but it could be my USB cable. I have left it plugged in charging for 8 hours and it only goes up a few percent; if I turn it off, it charges in a few hours.

I previously purchased the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) from Best Buy. I upgraded to the J7 Perx (2017) during the Black Friday Sales Event. I like that this year's model was offered in black color versus the previous year's white color. It has a faster processor, more RAM, better front and rear cameras, and a superior speaker located on the right side of the phone versus on the usual bottom location causing sound dampening whenever the phone is laid down. This is a very responsive phone with quick Internet access and decent call quality. I would definitely recommend this phone as a very reasonably priced alternative to Samsung's higher priced models.
