Washes well with shortcomings

Quality5 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use2 out of 5This dishwasher does a good job washing dishes. Unfortunately, two of its most prominent features are substandard. The is a smart dishwasher. It's Wi-Fi enabled and works with an app. In order for it to work, you need to enable remote access from the dishwasher. But if you do so much as open the door, remote access is disabled. In other words, to use it remotely, you need to press a button on the dishwasher each time. If somebody opens the dishwasher to put an extra fork in, and closes the door, it's no longer enabled for remote access. Not only is remote access disabled, the dishwasher doesn't restart like other brands when the door is closed after opening it mid-cycle. So if somebody adds a fork and doesn't know to press two buttons before closing the door, not only is remote access turned off, but you need it the most because the dishwasher won't resume. The other problem is noise. Bosch advertises it as quiet. It's incredibly noisy. Before, I had an Asko and it was incredibly quiet. Companies cheat by measuring the sound of the dishwasher while running without any dishes in it. Once you load up the dishwasher, this becomes way too loud. It's possible that the motor is measurably quieter than my old one, meaning you won't hear the motor in either one but can see the difference with a meter. In the real world, nobody cares how quiet a dishwasher is when run without dishes. This one is not well insulated. If you want a dishwasher that does a great job, you don't mind the noise, and you don't care that the automation features are impractical, get a Bosch.

Excellent Product - So Quiet!

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5We previously had a nice dishwasher but had to leave it at our house when we moved. Having roughed it for a few years with a "builders' special", it finally gave up during the Covid lockdown. I immediately checked out reviews and Consumer Reports to see what was recommended, The Bosch dishwashers were ranked very high but they had not reviewed this model. I took a bit of a chance but so far, am very happy with this one. Best Buy delivered it as promised, with the extra install kit and the part Bosch make for American, hard-wired connections. I thought I could get away with not using that but when I tried the standard plug, it did not work - likely the circuit was incomplete where I had removed the old dishwasher (hard-wired). Using the Bosch kit which Best Buy thoughtfully supplied took care of this problem. The dishwasher is not too heavy for two people to move but would be for one. We had a dolly handy to move it from the garage, where Geek Squad delivered it but ended up not needing it as two of us (husband/wife) were able to carry it in the house once it was unpacked. Install took some time as it was the first dishwasher I have ever tried to install myself but it went very well. Removing the old dishwasher was very easy and installing the Bosch had a few irritating moments but was mostly ok. Adjusting the height on the dishwasher feet was poor - you need a combination of a screwdriver and your strength to turn the feet clockwise or anti-clockwise. I felt this could have been made easier. Adjusting the rear feet was way better - you just turned a screw in the front that made small adjustments to the back and I wished they had that for the front. Once installed, you can set the dishwasher up on your Wi-Fi network. You don't have to but it would defeat the object of buying this model if you did not and you can get a cheaper model if you don't want this feature. I found the Wi-Fi setup a bit clumsy and I work in the I.T. sector. I did get it figured out fairly quickly though and since then, it has been robust. The display on the front of the dishwasher is nice when a program is running as it will show you the part of the program it is on (with basic graphics), the time it expects to finish or how many hours/minutes left and a line graph of where it is in the program. The control panel is hidden at the top of the door and lets you start a program fairly rapidly. You don't push the buttons so much as gently touch them. If you push, you can get no response but if you gently touch, you hear a corresponding beep. It takes a bit of getting used to but works fairly well. You can start a program remotely, from the app but you still have to put a tablet or detergent in the dishwasher and press a button to permit remote start which on the control panel. I suppose this stops any false starts and would be useful if you want it ready to go but don't want it to start until you go to bed. Having said that, there is no reason you can't run the dishwasher whenever you want. It says it is 42dba - I haven't measured it and that is likely an average of its entire cycle but I think it is super quiet at all stages! It almost makes us whisper when it is on as we are much louder than the dishwasher, even on the main wash part of the cycle. It is absolutely covered in noise reducing insulation and probably has other tricks up its sleeve as well. The drying feature works well but is not miraculous. It does better with plastic than any other dishwasher I have tried but still leaves some puddles on the top of glasses or plastics, if there is a rim and they are not angled. It is a good effort by Bosch though and something I can live with. The auto wash is excellent and we were very impressed with how it dealt with all kinds of stuck on foods. It seems to use the Rinse Aid correctly and everything came out of the dishwasher with a nice, clean sheen. You can adjust how much rinse aid is used in the settings either on the dishwasher or in the app settings. The dishwasher has the other optional wash settings as well, such as sanitize, 1 hour and half load. I like the feature you can turn on that shows an estimate of how economical a specific wash and options is in terms of power and water you will use. The Bosch 800 series dishwasher seems to be very roomy with two main racks for crockery, pots. pans and glasses and a little tray at the top that can accommodate cutlery or other specialty items. The tray can be angled on the sides to allow some deeper items and the rack below that is adjustable to three heights as well. I find this dishwasher to a great step up from the previous one we owned and I hope it runs well for us, for many years to come. I would definitely recommend it.
