    Synopsis

    Bram Stoker's Dracula
Based on Bram Stoker's classic 1897 novel, this film from Francis Ford Coppola and screenwriter James Victor Hart offers a full-blooded portrait of the immortal Transylvanian vampire. The major departure from Stoker is one of motivation as Count Dracula (Gary Oldman) is motivated more by romance than by bloodlust. He punctures the necks as a means of avenging the death of his wife in the 15th century, and when he comes to London, it is specifically to meet heroine Mina Harker (Winona Ryder), the living image of his late wife (Ryder plays a dual role, as do several of her costars). Anthony Hopkins is obsessed vampire hunter Van Helsing, while Keanu Reeves takes on the role of Jonathan Harker, and Tom Waits plays bug-eating Renfield. Bram Stoker's Dracula was the winner of three Academy Awards. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

    Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
Director Kenneth Branagh's interpretation of Mary Shelley's classic horror novel stars Robert DeNiro as a terrifying monster created in an obsessive attempt to defeat death and stretch the limits of medicine in the early 19th century. With the use of flashback, a dying Dr. Viktor Frankenstein (Kenneth Branagh) divulges a tale of gruesome terror to a sea captain (Aidan Quinn): As a medical student, the rebellious Frankenstein elaborates on the work of a brilliant scientist (John Cleese), successfully bringing to life a "man" assembled from the body parts of corpses. Upon realizing the destructive consequences of his experiment, Dr. Frankenstein abandons the creature and attempts to return to a normal life with his medical partner, Henry (Tom Hulce), and his fiancée (and adopted sister), Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter). In the meantime, the nameless creature struggles with loneliness and rejection from society until he sets out to track down his creator in search of one of two things: a bride to keep him company or revenge. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994) was produced by Francis Ford Coppola, who previously directed and produced monster-drama Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992). ~ Lisa Kropiewnicki, Rovi

I really hit "THE JACKPOT" with this purchase... The picture quality & clarity of these two horror picture classics, DRACULA & FRANKENSTEIN (on two separate Blu Ray discs), are unforgettable!!! I can other think of two other things to "top this"... The first thing being if this were a 3 pack including "THE WOLFMAN' with Anthony Hopkins & Benicio Del Toro (still at the $4.99 sale price) & #2 If I could've purchased these wonderful movies via BestBuy's "Upgrade & Save" if/when BestBuy were to ever bring that Program offer back especially in the very near future!!! Other than that, I really enjoyed this purchase for the movies at a "GREAT VALUE " & I'm going to recommend this to my family, friends & business associates without a doubt!!!

Bram Stoker's Dracula was a major hit when released back in the day. Today it feels a bit aged and slow in pace. But the acting and directing are still worthwhile. A nice accomplishment for director Francis Coppola. I purchased this double-bill to get my hands on the Frankenstein entry though. It's been difficult over the years to apprehend a wide-screen version of the film ( past releases of this have only been offered in full-frame only ). Not a major hit but I've always enjoyed it's story and pace of the film. The camera never stops moving but that was to keep you involved through the whole thing.

Honestly, I'm just writing this review to collect the points I'll receive for writing a review. I haven't watched either film (yet). However, I have read "Frankenstein," the book, and I'm working my way through "Dracula", also a book. Since they're both classic novels, that have stood the test of time, it's safe to say that even if the film versions are "bad", the plot of each film should be good. Right!? Eh, stick to the books, just to be on the safe side. And rent the films for Halloween.

This was combo pack. Two movies I had not seen in a long time. This time I bought in BD just to get the deeper colors, sounds and any extras they might have. ANd I was VERY happy I did. Dracula was as great as I rememberd. Frankinstin was good. Not great, but good. Worked well just staying home on a cold California night (68*) and watching a double feature on a dark night.

Branagh's overwrought take on "Frankenstein" is hard to take, but Coppola's old school filming of "Dracula" holds up well and looks decent on Blu-ray. The 70-minute making-of is good, and the many language options allow you to improve the awful performances of Keanu & Wynona. Best options? French and Czech.

What is there to say - Francis Ford Coppola's version of Dracula is the best that there has been. Great storybook feel, appropriate macabre and Gary Oldman just kills it as Drac. Video quality is great considering the transfer. Two movies for one price is unbeatable. Great purchase!

I had only seen Dracula before my purchase and figured that Frankenstein was a nice bonus, but I was pleasantly surprised on just how much I liked both films. Spooky, scary, and creepy to say the least. If you're a fan of the characters and throwback Gothic horror, these are for you.

This two pack, featuring Coppola's Dracula and Frankenstein, offers a lot of bang for your buck. With the exception of Keanu Reeves being cast as Jonathan Harker, Dracula is an almost perfect homage to the book and horror films of the silent era. Frankenstein isn't as good, but it's still a great bonus.
