Good performance - questionable cost-cutting
Replacing my faithful but very old budget Kenmore dishwasher, I thought I'd spend a little more money and get something in a different class of quality and performance. For starters, it does clean well, but I cant say it's really better than my budget Kenmore in that department. It is certainly quieter for most of the cycle, though when draining water it's about the same, being the loudest part of the cycle. Drying performance is good but not perfect. Due to design of racks, many bowls tend to fall flat, capturing pools of water. And all of this is WITH rinse aid. Don't bother using it without rinse aid. It basically requires it to work. A little goes a long way though, only needing to be topped off once a month or so. The controls are wonderful. Big bright display shows how much time is left and can be read even under the counter if flush-mounted. Indicator light above handle makes it clear if its safe to open the door (amber-no, white-all done), and the favorites button allows you to program your favorite routine and activate it with a single button press each time. No wifi or smart features, but just a clean simple and intuitive control scheme that makes confidently operating this machine simple even the first time in. What really disappointed me was the build quality. The lower frame is not once piece but multiple flimsy pieces of thin sheet metal that bends in your fingers. Sliding this machine under your counter without bending the frame is near impossible. The feet get caught on anything, even a grout line, and they just fold in on themselves, taking the whole machine with it. And the door, it's balanced so it can be stopped at any position, but it uses some string and cheap creaky springs to accomplish this, which you can hear and feel when opening and closing. Overall it's a good performer with some questionable cost cutting in the design stages. I may have made a different decision if I bought this in person and got to inspect it first, but I got it online and by the time it was in my kitchen I really didnt want to bother bringing it back and returning it. I really expected better build quality for the near-$1000 price range, but operation is effortless and intuitive.
