Canon - PowerShot SX710 HS 20.3-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black

This thing focuses fast, gets excellent photos and I have not even bothered to read much about how to use it yet. I told the very helpful clerk what I was going to buy a different camera for, and she suggested I try this instead. It is a superzoom with modern up to date technology and a big exposure card, and anything I take looks great. I wonder how much better it will be if I learn to use it properly, I got it to take pictures of birds, mostly. I uploaded one I took when I got home from work one night. A high tech 30x optical that fits in my pocket.

This camera replaces our SX210IS camera. Many of the functions are similar but Canon has exported our most used choices to easy access buttons on the outside of the camera. No more digging in the menu list or turning the camera mode wheel to use them, they are at your fingertips. The Optical Zoom is phenomenal: 30X, so I turned off the digital zoom, not needed. Check out the picture of a pigeon perched on the high tension power lines and birds in flight to our bird-feeder, judge for yourself. Both shots, freehand. Which brings up the IS: Image Stabilization capabilities of this camera: excellent. Something needed for those long shots. One draw back: 20.3 MP can hinder low ISO imaging, which was handled well with our old camera at 14.1 MP. The camera has a good feel to it and is compact enough to tuck in our pockets. Paired with our smartphones and was able to send pictures back and forth. Our printer, although fairly new, is not PictBridge compatible, so I cannot review this feature. One feature on the left side of the camera that will greatly help with Macro capabilities is the Frame Assist-Seek Button. This button allows the camera to temporarily zoom out and when released the camera returns to your zoom settings. How many times have I zoomed in on something only to lose it, not any more. And, using this on Macro is a great aid as well. Win/Win.

I bought this camera because I am a one camera girl - no DLSR, don't want the hassle of lenses and the weight of hauling it around. So - I wanted something with a good zoom but also for landscapes and macros. I previously had a 280SX which I liked but had some issues with the lens cover. The 710 has the same style cover, but I went with it anyhow. Overall, I am very pleased with the shots I've been getting. Quite similar to the 280 (except the trash is now in the spot where the timer was - I've set that a couple times accidently). My only negative is that this model, like the 280, can sometimes struggle in auto mode to focus, but that can usually be rectified by zooming out then back in once it figures out what you want. Overall I am very pleased with the results and this camera!

I bought this camera to document our trip to Europe. I did not want a bulky camera to log around . This one had all the advantages and the technology for beautiful, unforgettable moments without the hassle of dragging a bag of equipment. The set up is super easy, the settings are easy too. My eye sight is not as good so I cannot read any instructions on the camera. I needed a camera that would do all the settings without a lot of hassle like sports, low light, artistic settings. Very pleased and would recommend.

On a recent trip to Africa, I was the envy of all in my safari vehicle! I was able to take amazing professional looking zoom pictures without the hassle of heavy lenses! Several said they would be purchasing this camera for themselves and for gifts! I told them Best Buy is the place!

I have been a Canon camera owner for several years. I purchased one many years ago when my Nikon broke. I haven't purchased any other brand since then, nor will I ever. I love Canon and will always be a Canon owner. I have attached a pic of the moon I took with my Canon camera from my balcony, and an image of a bear cub that was in my moms yard this spring. (And no, I wasn't that close to either!!)

Camera is easy to learn basic shots. You may need a little instruction to do the advanced shooting. Long rechargeable battery life. Love the zoom.
