    Synopsis

    Captain Phillips
Two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks teams with Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass and screenwriter Billy Ray to tell the true story of Richard Phillips, a U.S. cargo-ship captain who surrendered himself to Somali pirates so that his crew would be freed. Captain Richard Phillips (Hanks) and his crew are carrying freight around the Horn of Africa when four Somali pirates forcefully take over their ship, the MV Maersk Alabama. While Phillips' team follow his orders to hide until they hear him give the safe word, the captain and a few essential crew members remain on the bridge as the heavily armed pirates make their way up to seize control of the ship. But the interlopers soon discover something that sends them into a furious rage: After effectively shutting down the ship, Phillips explains that the Maersk had malfunctioned when the crew pushed it too hard in an attempt to evade the attackers. In order to appease their leader, the ruthless Muse (Barkhad Abdi), Phillips offers them the $30,000 that's been locked in the ship safe. But that isn't enough, and Muse demands that Phillips help him search every corner of the ship to root out the terrified crew. When that plan fails, the pirates agree to take the cash from the safe and flee in the Maersk's lifeboat. At the last minute, however, they kidnap Phillips in the hope of supplementing their take with a sizable ransom -- a decision that leads to a tense standoff with the U.S. Navy, who would sooner see the lifeboat sunk with Phillips inside than allow it to reach Somalia. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    Zero Dark Dirty
The U.S. Army wages a clandestine effort to saturate Afghanistan with American culture while rooting out the world's most wanted terrorist in this absurd comedy starring Corey Feldman, Frank Stallone, Daniel Baldwin, and Mark Metcalf. The Iron Sheik co-stars. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Caution, SPOILER ALERT follows... I can't believe the bad guys didn't just knock off the crew one by one. It would have made their job so much easier. But as ruthless as they appeared to be, I guess they really did respect life and were only concerned about bringing the booty back home to the terrorizing gang boss so that they could keep putting food on the table for their families. It made no sense that the robbers would allow their own boat to go stray when they jumped onto the freighter. Why would they assume they'd be able to drive that huge ship back home with the booty?! It's also hard to believe the US mustered up that kind of rescue at the end. I wonder if Maersk had to reach into its own coffers to secure that kind of serious support. It's a sad story and really not at all credible which makes me wonder how close to "non-fiction" it really is. But we know who survived the incident, the bad guys were fantastic actors, and it certainly was an entertaining story.

Captain Phillips is good but not great. It's long and slow. But it does contain one of Tom Hanks's best performances. The man should've won an Oscar but wasn't even nominated. Go figure, right? Watch it for his incredible acting alone. Zero Dark Thirty is a great thriller that doesn't let up. I loved James Gandolfini in this. He was excellent as the lead's frustrated superior. He added some humor that I wasn't expecting at all. Overall, a good double feature that's worth the price of admission.

Both movies were powerful, thought- provoking, heartfelt, and emotional. Tom Hanks' portrayal of Captain Phillips was one of bis best performances and the ending brought tears to my eyes. To spend 10 years looking to find and dispose of Osama BIn Laden, a dangerous monster in my opinion, is mind-blowing, a good movie with long lasting results.

This was a good deal for both these movies. It doesn't have much in the way of extras, but the movies are complete. DON'T STREAM!! If you love the movie, get a DVD/Blu-Ray!! Don't give the industry the power to take the movie away by removing it from their servers!! I want a hard copy in my hand!! Support 3D!! If I see it in 3D, I WANT TO BUY IT IN 3D!!!! Don't let the studio withhold from us!!

I think that "Captain Phillips" and "Zero Dark Thirty" were both the greatest historical films of all-time and they were also both of my favorite historical films of all-time. I also think that both "Captain Phillips" and "Zero Dark Thirty" had a lot of entertaining and enjoyable action, mystery and suspense and really great and amazing casts and personal/political storylines as well.

Captain Phillips is a great film about the true story of Somalian pirates stealing a ship and the famous rescue of its crew members. Zero dark thirty is also an amazing film about the most famous manhunt in human history...looking for Waldo isn't as easy as the US government thought

Captain Phillips and Zero Dark Thirty both flesh life, detail, and understanding into the actual events that would not have been possible to experience otherwise. Highly recommended at the two for one combo price.

Though the movies have little in common, it was a price point that I couldn't pass up. Captain Phillip is highly underrated. Very tense. Zero Dark Thirty is good. Not quite as enjoyable as Captain Phillips, but worth watching.
