Synopsis

Centurion
A Roman soldier (Michael Fassbender) leads a small band of troops on a mission to rescue a key Roman general after becoming trapped in the territory of their sworn enemies in this period action-adventure film from director Neil Marshall (The Descent, Doomsday). The year is A.D. 117. Despite the growing strength of the Roman Empire, a fierce tribe known as the Picts has prevented Hadrian's armies from conquering northern Britain. The Picts offer a devastating display of their guerilla power when they raid a Roman frontier fort, and Quintus just barely manages to escape with his life. Thirsting for revenge, Quintus joins General Virilus' Ninth Legion as the squadron begins traveling north on a mission to find and kill Gorlacon, the leader of the Picts. That mission is complicated when the Ninth Legion is ambushed and General Virilus is captured, leaving his men stranded behind enemy lines. Now, as the Quintus and the surviving members of the Ninth Legion are hunted from the shadows, they prepare to make one last, desperate bid to save General Virilus and reach the Roman frontier before being captured or killed by the Picts. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

It took a few views, but this one grew on me.

Here, you have all the elements of a solid historical fiction thriller. First of all, you have the ancient Romans, represented here by the very talented Michael Fassbender. Additionally, there's the setting among the wild tribes of ancient Scotland, a very cool place in history that I was happy to see on film. I was on the fence after the first watch, but another viewing made me a fan.

Not much else to say. If you like sword fights then this is for you. It's a well made movie and has Fassbender before Prometheus put him on everyone's radar. Olga Kurylenko compliments the cast and is oddly good at the role. Fits perfectly too! It's a cool movie to watch with friends if action is what you're after, but don't expect anything amazing or worth coming back to.

    Solid action adventure movie.

"Centurion" was a surprisingly good movie. I had low expectations since it seemed to want to be a "King Arthur/Gladiator" clone, however it did well on it's own merit. The action sequences are satisfyingly brutal and well choreographed, and the dialogue is well executed and genuinely humorous at times. Enjoyable watch!

I enjoyed this adventure, even if it was a little predictable. The usual bad barbarians versus good Romans, in some hostile country, facing almost insurmountable odds. But the story development lets you follow along without too much reliance on basic history knowledge of the viewer. Gives you an enjoyable 98 minutes.

The plot is kinda corny and rather predictable, but the movie is very entertaining, has some great action with battle scenes that are sheer butchery. I may be partial as a soldier, but I like the bravado and commitment of the legionaries.

Michael Fassbender could spend 2 hours staring at paint dry and the world would be entertained! Centurion is a classic roman empire era film that is an awesome addition to the collection of any fan of that time period!

Save the time... weak story and dialog.

We could see it as a TV production. Intentionally, broken up with commercials to break the plot line and story continuity. It suffers from a weak story and dialog. Some fair cinematography but that does not salvage the movie overall.

Great Blue Ray extras that help complete the movie. The camera captured beautiful scenery with a great action packed story with a hint of love that will keep you entertained for the whole movie.
