We found this item as a 'Deal of the Day' and for the price we paid, it is a good product. There are two dials, a temperature dial and a timer dial. The timer dial is the main power switch and you rotate it for the amount of time you want the fryer to remain hot, a max of about 30 minutes. The temperature dial is what caused me to rate this fryer as only a three. It's temperature calibration is worthless. If you set it to the highest setting on the dial (375 degrees), it warms up to about 285 and sits there cycling, to keep a stable temperature. To get to 375, which is where we like to fry potatoes, we have to put it way past 375 into the "unmarked" area. It then gets close to 375 and we drop the potatoes. At that setting, it works well. I don't know if it's a defective unit, or if it's the norm, but truth is, I didn't find the issue as I used a meat thermometer to determine temperature and didn't notice the discrepancy with the dial until my wife tried to set it and have it hold the temp she set it to. What we really like is the large wire basket that comes with it. We bought this to replace the much smaller Fry Daddy. This unit holds somewhat more oil and allows us to create a larger number of servings. Also, the cover is very helpful in holding back the spatter of dropping frozen food into the oil. Our previous fryer doesn't have that luxury. In all, we are happy with the purchase and despite than the temperature marking inaccuracy, we find it a tool we use often in our kitchen.

Best Buy's product specifications for this deep fryer stated: "has a large capacity ... and food capacity (6.6 lbs)." This was false! There is no way this particular fryer would cook 6.6 lbs of food at one time; the food capacity is more like 2 lbs. The discrepancy was obvious when we saw the appliance in person and read the accompanying manual. We had ordered the item online for pickup in store. Upon discovering the vast difference between representation and fact, we returned it for a refund without ever leaving the store service counter. What a waste of time and gasoline.

It's not huge, so you do have to cook a couple batches at a time for a family of 5 and up. But what you do cook with it comes out tasting great. The window helps you see if your food is done. I totally recommend a little notebook to compliment it. So you can take note what temp. and how long. Also, cook in a highly ventilated area. It does put out a lot of steam and the smell sticks to the kitchen for a while. But that's the nature of frying food. In all, great product. Easy machine to use.

Needed a deep fryer and jumped on this when offered on sale online. Appliance is complete and easy to assemble and disassemble to clean. Main issue: one needs to hold mouth certain way to get power cord to connect to housing; i.e.: cord does not connect cleanly to cooker as it requires adjusting or moving around for power to pass and risks disconnection during cooking process forcing chef to reset timer. Otherwise, cooking oil will cool off after a while.

The first thing that I noticed was that the pan appeared to be just slightly damaged in shipping. Two little dents where the black coating came off. The box had a small indention too. I set it all up and the instructions were simple. plugged it in and no response. No lights, no noting. after i filled the pan with oil thinking it needed oil in the pan to work, wrong again. Back to the store, and I guess I will have to bake the chicken I bought. Oh well.

My family purchased this for my brother and his family to use mainly for making fried chicken, onion rings and French fries during cookouts. They were able to adjust the temperature on it for many other recipes including making donuts! It's a good size for casual gatherings or an average family.

Picked it up at the store, it was a gift for a relative. Opened it up a month later, not working at all. Contacted BestBuy, over the 15 days. Contacted the manufacturer, off and on responses for 5 months. Filed a claim with the credit card and got my money back
