    Synopsis

Rumpled, raincoat-wearing, cigar-chomping Lt. Columbo (Peter Falk) continues to play clever mind games with criminals who mistakenly believe they've committed the proverbial "perfect murder" as Columbo enters its second season. This year the series, one of several rotating programs of the detective anthology NBC Mystery Movie, offers eight episodes of varying lengths (90 to 120 minutes) for the entertainment of Columbo's ever-growing list of fans and devotees. John Cassavetes and Blythe Danner guest star in the opener, "Etude in Black," wherein Columbo matches wits with a symphony conductor who has murdered his mistress; this episode was written by no less than Steven Bochco. "The Greenhouse Jungle" stars Ray Millandand Bradford Dillman as a larcenous uncle and nephew who plan to raise a huge amount of money with an elaborate kidnap scam which inevitably segues into murder. Robert Culp, "special guest killer" in the first-season episode "Death Lends a Hand," returns to play a different but equally homicidal miscreant in "The Most Crucial Game." Columbo heads to London in "Dagger of the Mind," a tale of backstage intrigue and suspicious-looking suicides, with Richard Basehart heading the guest-star list. Movie star Anne Baxteraccidentally kills her press agent while attempting to do in her husband in "Requiem for a Falling Star." Leonard Nimoy plays a doctor who uses his medical knowhow to cover up two murders in "Stitch in Crime." A deaf chessmaster Laurence Harvey hatches a murder scheme that points the finger of guilt to a non-deaf person in "The Most Dangerous Match." And in the season-two finale "Double Shock," Martin Landau plays a dual role as a pair of greedy twins, one of whom committed murder -- and, of course, it's up to Columbo to ID the guilty party without "seeing double."

One of the better shows of its time

By today's standards, the shows from this time are slow and plodding. The characters are a bit cartoonish. But still a lot of fun. Every episode starts off with the bad guy committing the murder, and the show becomes how will Columbo figure out how this guy did it. The bad guy will try to throw him off but Columbo always figures it out n the end. The show will never get you on the edge of your seat, screaming in anguish, but it never fails to entertain. It stands the tet of time while most shows of that era do not.

I used to watch Columbo with my recently deceased mom, he was always one of our favorites. Season 2 is even more special because Leonard NImoy aka Mr. Spock ( my all time, and still is my favorite idol) guest stars. I have not seen this show in many years, and it holds a lot of warm memories for me.

Columbo was a favorite Sunday night show. Always was entertaining and many years later, still is. Only negative about this season two set, is I would like to be able to watch just one episode at time, and if I shut the DVD off after the end of the first episode, there's no way to start it at the second episode.

Columbo is not the ususal policeman type. He fools many people with his wrinkled rain coat and cigar. Some people don't recongize how smart he really is. He leads the crimanal down a false path to get the info that he wants to hook the crimanal.

Columbo is one of the best Detective series ever. The first few seasons are some of the best television ever made. Peter Falk inhabits the character of Columbo. He just makes you love this character.

I loved how this series gave you the perspective of the villan, and then how Columbo slowly dissects them and get justice.
