Corky Romano [DVD] [2001]

Rubber-faced funnyman Chris Kattan plays the mob's wimpiest brother in the wacky comedy Corky Romano. Touchstone has done a very nice job at making sure this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer looks solid and well-defined. With bright colors, dark black levels, and little-to-no edge enhancement, this transfer of Corky Romano appears to be in excellent condition. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English and is less than overwhelming. While there are some nice instances of surround usage in this mix, overall, the bulk of this mix is filtered through the front and rear speakers, save for background noises and ambient sound. Also included on this disc are English and French subtitles. The extra features on Corky Romano are fairly limited, including a few bland extended scenes that were cut from the film and a short featurette on then making of the movie, which includes some behind-the-scenes footage with the actors and director.

Synopsis

Corky Romano
Saturday Night Live cast member Chris Kattan stars in this mob comedy as Corky Romano, a veterinarian with a penchant for pop music from the '80s. As a youth, Corky was kicked out of his Mafia-connected family for being an oddball. Now his long-lost father (Peter Falk) has been indicted and needs Corky to infiltrate the FBI and steal the government's evidence against him. Corky is willing to aid the relatives who so long ago turned their backs on him, but his brothers go overboard when intimidating the computer hacker who gets Corky's bogus application into the FBI academy, presenting him as a super agent named Pissant. Now Corky must live up to his reputation for an eminently qualified top cop while simultaneously trying to get the goods on his dad. Corky Romano co-stars Peter Berg, Chris Penn, Vincent Pastore, Vinessa Shaw, Fred Ward, and Richard Roundtree. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi
