    brought in two laptops to find out what was wrong with them and wish i'd been told ahead of time that one may not be repairable so i could have made a decision about whether or not to use it as one of 3 covered items in my geek squad coverage - it;s the second time it happened to me, so a contract that initially provided coverage for 3 is now down to one because two of the products i submitted wound up unfixable and must be discarded - i would rather have paid the cost of repairs and left my contract in place to cover my remaining products that will hopefully useable after repair on the laptop that was fixable the work was well done other than a couple minor glitches i was able to remedy on my own without having to call or visit them to overcome - don't even recall now what they were and am happy to have my machine in working order again - short-staffed and waiting on too many people at one time - got lost in the shuffle of that both when bringing it in and when picking it up, first one, without an app't, but no one in line, second, with app't

    Brought My Laptop in for Virus Removal

    I brought my laptop in because it had gotten a virus and because it was running ridiculously slow. I bought the two year Geek Squad protection plan on an earlier repair, so I was covered. I returned after the "three to five days" to pick up my computer. I choose to test it before leaving the store. I'm glad I did. The computer ran so slow, it took about 10 minutes just to come up. The Geek rep and I spent several minutes talking about why it was still running so slow after the virus was removed. She agreed it was too slow and kept the computer for further testing. The next day I spoke to another Geek who told me I needed a new hard drive. I approved the hard drive replacement. Two days later I make another appointment to pick up my laptop. We boot it up and it is still so very, very slow. This Geek rep works with me and the laptop for two hours. The laptop was working perfectly when I left the store and has been perfect ever since. I really appreciate the time and effort Geffery put into making sure I was happy before I left. My question is: why did it take so many people so long to make things right?

    My computer failed. I took it to the Eagan MN Best Buy where I received no help. I then went to Apple Valley Best Buy where the Geek Squad Agent took time to diagnose my computer and determine that it needed a possible new hard drive, Since I had not backed up my data in some time I needed the back up service. When I got my computer back, the data was loaded onto a 1TB My Passport external storage as well as the computer. Instead of the hard drive failing, my operating system failed and needed to be reloaded. The Geek Squad agent worked with me as we confirmed that all of my data was present and that the programs that I used were reloaded and working perfectly. I was grateful that this store cared about me as a customer. Please know that the machine came back to me earlier than the original estimated date.

    Files Disorganized During Geek System Restore

    While a complete backup was done, 1. Four user accounts were put into one account 2. All files for all user accounts were combined into one folder 3. The new owner account had a mishmash of files from various previous user accounts with multiple downloads, documents, pictures, etc. folders. 4. When asked the Geek in charge said only that this problem would be used for training purposes 5. No effort was made to provide me an explanation of what I was given. 6. I was charged for a flash-drive for backup but it was not used and had to be redone -- sloppy. 7. A Geek tech CD was left in the CD drive -- sloppy. Since the Geeks did have access to all accounts and folders and files (else they could not have done the complete backup), they could have been much more effective in restoration of the system. The sloppiness indicates a lack of attention and/or SOP.

    My personal experience was absolutely pathetic and disheartening. Uninterested and inexperienced agents must have been working when I had my computer taken to the Geek Squad. they did not backup my hard drive correctly they forgot that I had a partitioned hard drive apparently so all the data was lost on the one side of it. The customer service was completely subpar. One of the guys thought he knew more than I did about computers and sort of bragged about it I wasn't impressed at all. It's not a competition I'm paying you to do a service and you did not do it right. Although this might not be a reflection of Best Buy or Geek Squad as a whole however this is my experience unfortunately. It was pathetic.

    Lap top repair + data back-up

    We dropped off our lap top and worked with Meghan (she is very helpful and her confidence is backed up by her competence). The lap top was having issues after an update (it locked up). We were not sure if a virus was involved or not. We were concerned about losing data in particular 4000+ photographs from our recent 4 week journey along the east coast from Maine to Florida and then stops in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia with friends and family. All of our concerns were met and the repair and back-up were done in just a few days. We were kept apprised of the repair status by email. We are very happy with the work done and the professionalism and competence shown by your team. Thank You! Scott + Susan Hendricks

    When I first started using the "Geek Squad" a few years back, I was impressed. Especially after having been "screwed" over by an incompetent local computer shop. I recently have taken my computers back again to the Geek Squad, and they sold me the service that was not even needed. I wont even go into details about how many times it took for Best Buy to finally fix my computer. Some of their repair or salesmen need more education about fixing computers. I know this because I have been around computers since the Commodore Vic 20. I would not recommend the Geek Squad unless you have time and money to waste.

    I lost all my important data.

    My operating system was corrupted, so I took my computer in for geek squad service. I purchased a portable hard drive and paid to have the hard drive backed up before service was done. The intake "agent" was very good, however none of the important data was found on either drive. The computer was sent to Kentucky for data recovery. It has been about a month and still no computer and no data. Probably one of the worst service experiences I have had in recent years. While I'm sure no one cares, I sold all Best Buy stock I owned in our stock portfolio as I do not want to invest in this company.
