I have a 5.1 set up. I have this paired with Bowers & Wilkins 600s, B&W surround sound speakers, and a MartinLogan Dynamo 10 inch. Everything is running off a Marantz SR7007 (125 watts per channel) Receiver, slightly older model. I purchased this Definitive Technology Center speaker before I had surround sound and it sounded pretty good with just the floor standing speakers and sub, but I was not impressed. A lot of other reviewers stated that this speaker "blends" well with other brands. I agree with that but would also like to point out that it "blends" because it's bland. Granted, my other speakers are probably much nicer, I expected more out of this speaker given Definitive's history and the price point of this speaker. While listening to music, this speaker is pretty much nonexistent. It has zero treble or upper end clarity and disappointing mid range. However... it did blow me away in one area and one area only: BASS. This thing has bass for days and does replicate bass guitar and electric guitar VERY well. I listen to music way more than I watch movies, so I also want to be objective. When watching a movie, this speaker is pretty good. It can handle a tremendous amount of power without distorting, and the clarity of vocals goes to a whole other level with this speaker. I got this speaker open box for a fraction of the cost or I would have probably considered another brand. Good Center speakers tend to be very expensive. And the lower end ones look cool but are pointless. This one sort of splits the difference, so from that stand point it may be worth checking out when considering adding one to your set up. If you watch a lot of TV or movies, this will do the job. If you are an audiophile when it comes to music, don't waste your time. This is a $150-200 Center at best. I would never pay $700 for this speaker. If I could take it back, I would. For the money, you'd be better off going with a Klipsch or open box MartinLogan/Bowers & Wilkins. This speaker is definitely the weak link in my setup. I'm sort of at a good stopping point with what I've built out, but at some point this speaker will have to be replaced with a "real" Center. Pros: Heavy duty Great design Visually blends well with other brands Phenomenal bass Decent mid range Great Vocal clarity (for movies) Cons: Horrible when listening to music Terrible highs Priced way too high for what it delivers It's big (you'll need the right space for this) Overall... don't waste your time with this thing. This was my first time buying something Definitive Technology and I don't think I ever will again. For some, they may think this speaker is great. But if you have had a taste of other "premium" brands like I have, you'll think this speaker is a joke. It's not even close to Bowers & Wilkins or MartinLogan quality.
