    Synopsis

    Doctor Zhivago
Based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel by Boris Pasternak, Doctor Zhivago covers the years prior to, during, and after the Russian Revolution, as seen through the eyes of poet/physician Yuri Zhivago (Omar Sharif). In the tradition of Russian novels, a multitude of characters and subplots intertwine within the film's 197 minutes (plus intermission). Zhivago is married to Tonya (Geraldine Chaplin), but carries on an affair with Lara (Julie Christie), who has been raped by ruthless politician Komarovsky (Rod Steiger). Meanwhile, Zhivago's half-brother Yevgraf (Alec Guinness) and the mysterious, revenge-seeking Strelnikoff (Tom Courteney) represent the "good" and "bad" elements of the Bolshevik revolution. Composer Maurice Jarre received one of Doctor Zhivago's five Oscars, with the others going to screenwriter Robert Bolt, cinematographer Freddie Young, art directors John Box and Terry Marsh, set decorator Dario Simoni, and costumer Phyllis Dalton. The best picture Oscar, however, went to The Sound of Music. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

David Lean, the director, gives Dr.Zhivago the "epic" treatment as he did with "Lawrence of Arabia" & with Omar Sharif in both films!! The packaging was sturdy! The movie on blu-ray(with Overture & Intemission music),a special features dvd-excellent quality-AND a separate, 8-song cd sound-track sampler of the famous music. There's also a 46 page attached book of production history & pics. You're less likely to lose the booklet plus it helps keep the packaging in good shape. All in all a quality production for the 45th Anniversary !! Very glad I got it..!!

Zhivago came out about the time I got out of college. I loved it then and love it now. The acting, plot, and cinematography is great, and it is even better on my 4K screen even though it is a bluray disc. It was made for a ultra wide movie screen so the aspect ratio (2.66:1) makes watching it on a big screen almost a necessity. Great love story in a time of turmoil. Basically it proves that love will or can conquer all.

Doctor Zhivago pretty much says it for itself, one of the best movies ever made. The nicely 3 Disc Anniversary Edition presented in a book style format is well worth the cost. I just bought the movie and have already watched it twice. I'll soon get to the other discs on the making of the movie. You won't be disappointed on this purchase.

This is a top notch film with a brilliant cast and acting similar to Gone With the Wind. Great movie, but maybe a bit too long for some viewers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. This blu- ray also features beautiful picture, and contains a booklet (digipak).

For a long time I have wanted to buy this movie but was hesitant as I have experienced negative results with past video purchases. I must say that this was not the case with this video. " It is theater quality". Bravo!!

This was a birthday gift for my 80-something year old mother. She loves this film, and the remastered edition is very clear. It's almost as good as seeing it for the first time on the Big Screen.
