Synopsis

Dumbo
The shortest of Disney's major animated features Dumbo involves a baby elephant with unusually large ears. Ostracized from the rest of the circus animals, poor Dumbo is even separated from his mother, who is chained up in a separate cage after trying to defend her child. Only brash-but-lovable Timothy Mouse offers the hand of friendship to Dumbo, encouraging the pouty pachyderm to exploit his "different" qualities for fame and fortune. After trepidatiously indulging in a vat of booze, Dumbo awakens in a tall tree. Goaded by a group of jive-talking crows, Dumbo discovers that his outsized ears have given him the ability to fly. The musical score by Frank Churchill and Oliver Wallace won Oscars for them both. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

As good as the original and cleaned-up for HD

It's Dumbo, it's the same story as it has always been, and it looks as good as I remember it, even in HD, but it's not our favorite. It's looks as good a I remember it, but that's probably because my faded childhood memory has smoothed over the visual artifacts from the worn-out VHS version I watched back then. It even looks good in HD, so I presume there's been some restoration done to make it look that good at that high of a resolution. It doesn't have the clean (sterile?) lines of modern-day computer-animated cartoons, so it might not appeal to children who have grown accustomed to such and therefor lose attention watching anything but, but it suited my children just fine (though probably due to a steady diet of old Looney Tunes shorts). I enjoyed watching it again and my children enjoyed watching it for the first time, but it's not something I could watch more than once a year and not something I think my children will watch often (as compared to some other animated movies).

Dumbo was always one of my favorite movies when I was a child, so I was thrilled to add this Blu-ray to my collection. I literally sat on our couch for the full 63 minutes with a smile on my face, as I remembered the first time I watched with my mom and how we cheered for Dumbo as he flew through the Big Top with Timothy sitting in his hat. Some movies feel dated and you watch them thinking, "Why did I ever like this?" But this was not the case with Dumbo! On a technical note, I already had the Big Top edition DVD and while that looked fantastic, this Blu-ray was definitely worth the upgrade. The colors really pop, the line work is crisp and clean, the detail was amazing. This version also came with a nice assortment of extras, including deleted scenes and a very interesting making-of documentary. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to feel good!

Dumbo is a classic. I do not know anyone who does not like this film. One of my favorite Disney films. It took me a while to purchase this “special edition” DVD of the film. I WAS really looking forward to purchasing it. But, when I did………. Different story. What “special edition”? There was NOT in my opinion that much difference than the 1st DVD release for the 60th anniversary from October 2001. The packaging inside left A LOT to be desired. Some special edition. IF this was a true special edition it would have had more printed material inside talking about the film, pointing out the features, etc. Has a have to fold open game for kids is good for kids. BUT ADULTS LOVE THIS FILM TOO. Where was a making of for the film? I would have loved to have seen something like that. Disney, for such a beloved film DO A BETTER JOB ON YOUR “SPECIAL EDITIONS”!! The 5 stars is for the film NOT THE DVD PACKAGE!!

Very happy with this purchase. For those on the lookout, the case is actually the size of a traditional DVD vs a standard blu-ray case, if that matters to anyone. Not a con in my book, but wasn't aware going in (ordered it online); so hoping to help anyone this might matter to. There is a version floating around that comes in a standard blu-ray case as well at other retailers (I have personally purchased both, one for my collection - this one; the other as a gift). Found the content on the discs for either is identical in every way, however. Overall, timeless classic for both the young and young at heart. Recommend!

Disney does NOT care about us anymore. Just released for the 70th anniversary of the film December 2011. 3rd time the film has been released on DVD. Apparently Disney thinks EVEYRONE has a blu ray player. I do NOT, can not afford one NOR the more expensive discs. This DVD is plain silver. There are a few extras. Film full screen again. If you want a good DVD of this film get the 2001 60th anniversary or the 2006 Big Top Edition. More extras, nice looking discs with Dumbo on them. Cut corners Disney & your customers will notice. The film is still a classic & great. A far cry from a lot of the animation done now a days. A class act & still a delight. Rating & recommendation for the film NOT for this DVD

I ordered this movie on black Friday to be sent to me. It arrived quickly, but I was disappointed upon opening the package. This is supposed to be a special 70th anniversary edition, but it looks like an old non blu-ray DVD, I have other special edition Disney DVDs, expected something better, but this doesn't cut it as being up to Disney's standards. I recommend the movie itself, don't recommend if you like the usual Disney hoopla.

I've always loved Dumbo for its heart-touching story about a mother's love reciprocated by her son and friendship that comes from the most unlikely of places. It is a lesson in confidence in the midst of bullies and how to defeat the nay-sayers. I'm happy to share this story with my grandchildren now.

Still a good classic to have on dvd or Blu-ray. We had the vhs and the player finally died, a little trippy at times but still one of the most beloved and we’ll know Disney movies. I would suggest keeping an eye on the sales where you can get movies like this for around $10 and update your movie library
