Dyson Is So Good That It Makes Comparison Unfair
|Posted .Dyson is famous for making some of the best vacuums on the market, and the latest in the Ball Animal Series is no exception. Dyson vacuums are so good, that it almost seems unfair to compare them to other vacuums from other manufacturers. The vacuum comes packaged in a plain brown box that contains the vacuum and the accessories. It took only a few minutes to snap a few pieces together and it was ready to go. Cleaning selections consist of 3 settings: low carpet, high carpet, and hard floors. Other than that, just plug it in, turn it on, and you are ready to clean. Maneuverability is excellent due to the ball base that allows for very easy movement around the house. That the handling is so effortless is surprising considering that it weighs 17 pounds. The innovative 50 foot hose makes getting into hard to reach places as easy as can be. There is not a place in my house that I can not reach with this vacuum. The motor is loud but that is to be expected from a vacuum of this size and power. Cleaning performance is off the charts good. The day before I received the Ball Animal 3, I had vacuumed a large area rug using my old vacuum (from another manufacturer) so I was looking forward to seeing how the Dyson would compare. Within 2 minutes of using the Dyson, the debris cup was one quarter full of dirt particles that my other vacuum had missed. In other words, the suction strength of my new Dyson is a night and day improvement in cleaning power. Here are some other features that I like about the Dyson Ball Animal 3: Emptying the debris container is easy and mess free. The container separates from the vacuum chassis sealed and a push of a button above the trash can lets me deposit the dirt directly into the trash can. The 35 foot power cord makes changing outlets less frequent when moving from area to area. Dyson went minimalist with the accessories which is good since other manufactures sometimes go overboard with them. Since I have 2 dogs, I especially appreciated that I did not have a problem with hairs getting tangled in the brush mechanism. Pet owners will especially benefit from how effective Dyson’s detangling technology is. I wholeheartedly recommend the Dyson Ball Animal 3 vacuum. It is not the cheapest vacuum on the market, but it offers the best power and performance. For me having the cleanest dust, allergen, and dirt-free home is a priority. If that is your priority as well, then Dyson is the way to go. I have used many vacuums over the years, and I can say without reservation that the Dyson Ball Animal 3 hands down the best vacuum I have ever used!

Game Changer
|Posted .Dyson is company that doesn't need any introduction. I call it the Apple of vacuum cleaners (+ any other gadget that they make). They are just too far ahead of other brands. We own quite a few gadgets from them including two vacuum cleaners, hair supersonic dryer, hair airwrap, air purifier etc. My wife does not want any other brand...period! This is our third Dyson vacuum cleaner. The other two are Dyson Ball Animal 3 Upright Vacuum cleaner (older version) and the V15 Detect Cordless one. Dyson technology just keeps getting better and better. This one tops them all. There’s no better vacuum. The amount of dust and fine particles that it picks up is amazing. We received this vacuum almost a week ago and wanted to use it for couple of days before reviewing it. It came with three accessories. We already have accessories from our other two vacuum cleaners and haven't used except 3 or 4 of them. I'm pretty sure they are compatible with this vacuum cleaner as well. Although, I haven't tried using them with it yet. This vacuum cleaner has seriously great suction. The maneuverability of the ball is very nice, the cord is very long, the filtration is very good. The thing sucks like a jet engine which is great on hard floors. I wouldn't at all agree it's cheaply made. Plastic? Of course--that's why it's light. Everything clicks easily into, and out of, place and I was relieved that vacuuming the stairs is no longer a back straining task. It does take time for a first time user to carefully figure out how all the parts disengage so that you could effectively use the attachments. For instance, when in complete upright position, and turned on, only the hose functions for use of attachments. The floor brush/suction only engages when the vacuum is pitched and not in complete upright position. Removing the canister is easy and you simply push the same button you did to remove the canister to pop the bottom. Be sure canister is over the trash can when you do this! Then the dirt just falls into the trash can. The spinning brush doesn't collect hair but it will collect loose threads. The Dyson isn't super quiet, but it's not really a negative for me. I've definitely used noisier vacuums but I have used quieter ones as well. The people at Dyson made the vacuum smaller and more streamlined by storing the attachment hose in the handle, which is nice because it's not in your way, but it's not super easy to get out and put back in. Pros: - Easy assembly - Awesome suction - Great size dust canister - Easy to maneuver - Long cord Cons: - Nothing so far! All in all, a great cleaning tool and I'm very happy with it.

Great suction with flawed features
|Posted .I was excited to finally own a Dyson after seeing many commercials over the years touting how powerful the suction is. I must say they are correct that the suction and pick-up power is superb. I ran my other top brand vacuum through the living room and thought it did a good job picking up the dirt until I did a second pass with this Dyson Animal 3. Check out the photo to see what the other vacuum missed. However, there are some negatives that need to be pointed out and could be a dealbreaker for some prospective buyers. It is advertised as an easy-to-use vacuum thanks to the ‘ball’ feature when maneuvering around corners or anywhere you need to go. The part they don’t mention is how hard it is to push and turn when the suctioning power is vacuuming against a standard carpet. The suction is so strong that it makes it very difficult to push. I never had this issue with the many vacuums I have owned over the years. At times I even had to hold the handle with two hands and struggled to push it around the room. I can’t image my grandmother using this vacuum due to the strength needed to maneuver it around. For the price, it has a weak ‘plastic’ feel, which doesn’t seem to match the high-end suctioning ability and made me feel like I was going to crack the handle while trying to push it around. I am also not a fan of the placement of the ‘mode selection’ toggle. It should be in the handle instead of at the very base of the vacuum so it would be easier to switch on the fly between carpet and hard floor. With all of the above taken into consideration, you have to decide whether you want a Dyson for the ‘excellent cleaning ability but hard to maneuver’ or go with another brands ‘average but easy to maneuver’ vacuum. Personally, I have to go with the vacuum that cleans better than another I have owned before…..the Dyson Ball Animal 3.

Easily Maneuverable PowerHose
|Posted .I have two dogs, one of them being a German Shepard so at times my life is kind of covered in hair. Every other vacuum gets tangled up fairly quickly so having a unit that promised to not do that was something I looked forward to. I have wood flooring with a few area rugs and this transitioned seamlessly and almost effortless between the surfaces. This was able to not only deep clean my apartment without needing to move the cord as it was really long. This vac was able to deep clean my carpets a way my recurring robot vac could not, with a few passes it was like a whole new rug. The other thing I really liked was the fact that I only had to empty the bin once and at no point did I loose ANY suction; this is not something I can say for my robot or stick vacs either. It didn't even have an issue with the leaves that on occasion come into my door to our backyard, and I usually have to pick those up by hand. Being able to plug in once, reach my whole space, and quickly maneuver around thanks to the ball itself. I felt I got the job done quickly without it feeling like too much of a chore. Although I do have the robot, The Dyson ball is one I will use weekly for a quick pass over everything. Assembly wasn't too hard, as instructions were easy to follow. Using the wand was also easy but I tend to stick to the floor brush as the suction gets the job done for me. I was literally amazed at the end of it all to see the brush completely clean, knowing what the others usually look like after a run.

Powerful suction, clunky to use
|Posted .My last 2 vacuums were Dyson's, the most recent being a cordless model and the one before a rolling canister model. So when my wife decided she was sick of the battery running out when she was in the middle of doing a deep clean, and that she wanted an upright plug-in model, along came the latest "Ball" model to compare against. The giant ball that serves as the main set of wheels provides excellent maneuverability to get around furniture more easily than traditional vacuums that excel in moving in straight lines. The strong suction power makes it a cinch to grab up animal hair and dust on the floor, and the power is not diminished when using the hose. I found the motherlode of dust bunnies hiding under my reclining chair, and using the cleaning wand made quick work of everything under there. And the hose stretches ridiculously far, up to 15 feet. The 35 foot electrical cord is also of a sufficient length to be able to clean more of my house without stopping to change outlets as often. The clear collection chamber makes it simple to see when it needs to be emptied, which is done at the press of a button. I was really excited about the new detangling technology in this model. There are grooves that automatically clean the brush bar as it spins. Between the two cats, plus my wife and daughter, both with long hair, there's a lot of vacuum head maintenance that I've put up with over the years. Hopefully, this new design will mean less taking apart the vacuum and cutting out the long, dusty hair. While I found the vacuum excellent for grabbing the pet hair and dust from my hardwood floors, the various debris that comes from having a 7 year old daughter was more of a challenge. Little beads, both for bracelet making and for ironing together, did not want to get sucked up. This is a mixed blessing, since I really don't want to be buying more beads to replace any that I vacuum up, but it also means that other similarly shaped/weighted items that are actual debris that I want to vacuum don’t quite get picked up either. Other things like various candy wrappers tend to get caught between the brush bar and the detangling grooves, flapping at me through the clear plastic of the vacuum head. This may be nitpicky, but for a company that prides itself on design and aesthetics, I found a couple of odd decisions. At the bottom of the "ball", where the pieces come together, one of the parts has some very rough looking plastic, almost as if it was a broken. I only saw it while assembling the unit, so it isn't really seen in normal use, but I was still worried that I received a broken model. I looked all around the inside of the box for any broken bits that might have fallen off, but found none. While I was at a store that sold vacuums, I decided to check out older models of the ball vacuum, and they all had the same rough plastic finish to some parts on the bottom, in different areas depending on the model, so I figured that it's just how these are made. Functionally speaking, everything to do with the hose and cleaning tools is a nightmare in actual usage. The way that the handle and hose are assembled requires you to slide the extension tube inside of the hose in order to slide it into the slot to form the handle to use the vacuum regularly. You cannot operate the vacuum without the extension tube inside of the hose because otherwise the hose will not be secured. The hose is automatically engaged as soon as the vacuum is placed in the upright position, so it is always sucking your wrist at the beginning and end of every vacuum session unless you engage the cleaning head by tilting the vacuum down prior to turning it on, and remember to turn it off before standing it back upright. If you do want to use the hose, you must remove it from the handle and slide the extension tube out fully, otherwise the hose will be too rigid to maneuver. The problem is that the extension tube is so long that, unless you are vacuuming your ceiling, you'll most likely want to ditch the extension tube and attach the tools directly to the hose. Since there's no place to stow the extension tube while you aren't using it, you're stuck keeping it close by on the floor or something, because again, you can't put the hose away and use the cleaning head with out sticking the tube back in the hose and assembling the entire handle again. Not sure why they decided to make what should be an accessory into a vital component for normal operation. Also, the hose, while stretched, constantly tries to retract causing you to have to fight it non-stop while trying to vacuum. The extra maneuverability can also make the vacuum too easy to move around, presenting a challenge in just vacuuming in straight lines without feeling clunky. This is a much heavier unit than our cordless model, and all the weight is all at the bottom, so there is a lot of momentum to overcome as well. Due to the combination of wobbliness and weight, doing a lot of quick back and forth motions while trying to vacuum out a narrow area between my dining table and the credenza next to it quickly put strain on my wrist. Also, if I had known that I would only be getting a couple of tools with the base model (the combination crevice/brush tool and a stair tool), I would have gone for a different package (especially since I don't have stairs in my condo), as none of the attachments that fit my older Dyson work on the new one.

Absolutely AMAZING
||Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This vacuum is an end all be all. I bought the original Dyson Animal for my S/O earlier this year and thought it couldn’t get any better than that. I was wrong. The Animal 3 came out just a bit ago and I decided to get it for myself because I was so blown away by the first Animal Ball. The Animal 3 has so much suction it tried to pull the carpet off my stairs, (a good problem.) The brush roll works as advertised, I have not gotten a single piece of hair stuck in the brush roll so far. Not a single one. On top of that, it agitates the carpet insanely well, it BEATS the carpet to get all the dust and dirt out of it to the point that the carpet gets almost hit to the touch and the insane suction sucks it all up. I have two cats so I vacuum every day and it always amazes me what this vacuum pulls out of the carpet every single day. I had an older Shark vacuum that did a decent job, but absolutely nothing like this Dyson. On the first use my carpet was very noticeably softer. This Animal 3 has a more narrow motor head than the previous animals which concentrates the suction to a smaller area, essentially making it more effective. There is also a setting for low, medium, or high pile carpet which allows me to easily vacuum any rug in the house without the Dyson trying to eat the rug. I am an absolute fanatic about clean floors and this satisfies me in every way. A clean home is a happy home.

Lifesaver to a mom of 5 and a dog mom to a husky
||Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.I have struggled for years to find a vacuum that has met my needs being a mom of now 5 along with a almost 3yr old husky and a bunny. Vacuums would not last in my home for more than about 6mo. This vacuum is amazing, it picked up so much that my old vacuum left behind after vacuuming multiple times. It only took using it 1x and it got deep down into my carpets and rugs. It didnt clog or loose suction even picking up my dogs hair. If you know huskys you could only imagine how bad the shed and how often. It brought the softness and fluff back to my floors, even the high traffic areas. It is a bit pricey for some households but it definitely worth the extra buck if you can swing it.

Q: QuestionDoes it work on hard wood floors?
Asked by Fritz.
- A:Answer Hello Fritz, this is Kelly with Dyson. You can use the Ball Animal 2 on hard wood. You also have the option to disable the brush bar, to vacuum with just suction power, in the instance there is any concern of using a spinning brush bar on your flooring. Q: QuestionI just purchased this after having an Animal 2 for 12 years. I have found this is much harder to push. It’s on highest setting. Anything I can do to make it easier to use? I’m very disappointed.
Asked by Peggy.
- A:Answer Hi Peggy, this is Kelly with Dyson. Your machine features an Anti-tangle Motorbar™ cleaner head, with suction control. We always suggest checking your manufacturers recommended cleaning instructions, for the flooring type you're cleaning. The three levels of suction are controlled by the slider on the front of the cleaner head. Slide the suction control to suit the floor type. Position the slider to the left for use on deep to medium pile carpets, delicate flooring and rugs. Position the slider in the center for low pile carpets and large debris. And, position the slider to the right for hard floors and ground in dirt. If the machine is hard to push, use the mode on the left. If you still have issues, don't hesitate to get in touch with us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com for help. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support

Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. There is a red power button on your machine, at the top where the cyclone meets the handle. You will press that to power on/off your vacuum. To begin vacuuming, you will pull back and down on the handle, to recline the machine. If you have any other questions, feel free to get in touch with us at askdysonUS@dyson.com.
