    Synopsis

    Face/Off
The third of John Woo's American-made feature films, Face/Off stars John Travolta as Sean Archer, an FBI agent obsessed with capturing Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), a criminal genius who years before killed Archer's son while trying to assassinate the agent. Archer's single-minded pursuit of Troy has caused serious harm to his marriage, but Archer thinks the light may have appeared at the end of the tunnel when a seriously wounded Troy is captured in a bloody shootout. However, it turns out that Troy has planted a time bomb, with a biological payload that could destroy the entire city of Los Angeles -- and Troy isn't about to say where it is. The only other person who knows the bomb's location is Troy's brother, Pollux (Alessandro Nivola), who is no more helpful than Castor. FBI scientists hatch a plan: they have developed an experimental surgery which would allow them to graft Troy's face temporarily on Archer's head and allow him to question Pollux as if he were his brother. But after Archer has taken Troy's face, Troy regains consciousness and forces the doctors to give him Archer's face. Now the criminal mastermind has the FBI at his disposal, and the lawman is underground with few places to turn. Along with Woo's usual elaborately choreographed action scenes, Face/Off features a number of notable supporting performances, including Joan Allen as Archer's wife, Colm Feore and C.C.H. Pounder as FBI scientists, and Gina Gershon as Troy's loyal but long-suffering girlfriend. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

An unbelievable but thrilling action film

Face/Off is one of John Woo's American films, and it's a lot of fun. However, the story is completely unbelievable. If you can get past that, though, this is an excellent action picture. The story is that of Sean Archer (John Travolta), an FBI agent obsessed with the capture of terrorist Castor Troy (Nicholas Cage). As the film begins, Archer apprehends Troy after a heated chase. There's no time to celebrate, however, because Archer is informed that Troy's gang has planted a bomb somewhere, and the only way to find out the location of the bomb is for Archer to become Castor Troy. Using advanced surgical techniques, doctors secretly remove Castor Troy's face and Sean Archer's and give Archer Troy's face. However, things go wrong when Castor Troy awakens from his coma and forces the head doctor to give him Archer's face, subsequently killing him and everyone else who knows about the procedure. Archer is thus forced to find a way to track down Troy, who has assumed his life, job, and family, to get back what's his before it's too late. The plot is far-fetched at best, especially since Travolta and Cage have completely different body types, making the face-switching fairly irrelevent in terms of logic (though the story ignores this problem), but the action is extremely well-done (John Woo is the master of action), and the acting is solid. Overall, this is a fun adventure and a memorable action film, if you can forgive the ludicrous (but amusing) story.

      Amazing movie for it's time

I agree with the prior post that Travolta and Cage are one of the best nemesis ever. This is one of those movies that you can watch over and over again, and then you'll get bored but you'll never regret having this movie in your collection because you will want to watch this again in the future. Of course, you can wait and rent but why risk renting a scratched nonworking disc when you can keep the disc in good shape and watch it at your convenience? I don't normally say buy movies (as there are a few worth purchasing imo), but this one is definitely one of those I would personally purchase. Adrenaline packed, the story and action sequences keep you on your feet.

The continuing genre of John Woo's Gun Fu films. The director takes the concepts of martial arts films into the new age, where gun fighting is as equal importance in action films. The Replacement Killers is a good follow up to his style after watching this classic. Face/Off is a great film, and i loved how in switching places, the characters actually begin to become each other. Take classic tales of revenge, suspense, and action movies, and put them together under incredible directing and you have an awesome movie. Oh, this one features an alternate ending on the special features. Those are the kinds of special features that make it worth buying.

The plot takes identity theft to a higher level. Switching faces, yes the actual faces, along with the personalities that go with them set up a great confrontational ending. The plot flows smoothly through the twists and turns of the two main characters played superbly by John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. Both actors switch personalities perfectly as their looks become reversed, even fooling their friends and family. If you like mystery, medical science fiction, drama and action mixed with a bit of humor Face/Off will leave you satisfied, and hoping that the plot could not happen.

This is a great steelbook with the nice finish and no dents. As usual though, with the awful spindles that are in these it makes it extremely difficult to get the disc out but it's manageable. The movie itself is great, filled with high octane action and powerful performances by the two leads, John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. Also a plethora of fun special features are included which adds to the value. If you're a fan of steelbooks and/or this movie, definitely pick this up.

If your at all familiar with either or both Nicholas Cage and director John Woo then you know what your in for. The premises of the movie is awesome, the action scenes are brutally violent. But the movie it self suffers quit a bit. If your in the mood for just a entertaing mindless popcorn action movie this is for you.

I watch this movie more than 10 times. Its the best action-suspense movie with John Travolta and Nicolas Cage together. They both did a great job portraying the character. This movie is definitely included in my top 100 favorites. Even my family enjoy watching this movie. I was hoping they make a sequel to the movie.

This movie's entertainment value hinges on a preposterous premise but it works! Cage and Travolta are clearly enjoying pretending to be each other and their energy never lets up. The scenes where Cage has taken over Travolta's life at home are a little creepy, but other than that it'sgreat.
