The Garlean Empire has delegated a substantial army to attack and successfully capture its southern neighbor, Eorzea, after having long desired Eorzea's rich, abundant resources. But on the way, the Garlean Empire's invading commander is plagued by delusional, hysteric thoughts. Finally giving way to complete lunacy, the commander secretly devises to rip the moon from its place in the heavens and heave it down upon the land. The people uncover the commander's destructive intention at the final moment and beseech the gods on bended knee to intervene on their behalf — but the gods turn a deaf ear to their prostrated pleas. Bahamat — an ancient terror who has been smoldering with fury for generations — wrenches forth from within the moon, where he has been imprisoned with only his insatiable wrath for company. But at the 11th hour, a powerful magus summons the last bit of his strength to send all of Eorzea's heroes into a temporal rift, where they have been suspended in a motionless, timeless state — until now.
