    Synopsis

    Force 10 from Navarone
Force 10 From Navarone was a sequel to the 1961 blockbuster The Guns of Navarone and tells the tale of ten widely divergent WW II troubleshooters who attempt to blow up a crucial bridge in Yugoslavia. As in the first Navarone film, one of the guerillas is a traitor: group leader Mallory (Robert Shaw) knows the identity of the turncoat, but can't prove it until it's almost too late. The beautiful female resistance leader is played by Barbara Bach, while Harrison Ford, fresh from his Star Wars success, is the romantic lead. Others in the cast include Edward Fox, Franco Nero and Alan Badel. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This is billed as a sequel to the classic "The Guns of Navarone". Apart from including a clip of the ending of that film, it's hard to see any other connection to this film. The original takes place on a Greek island in the Aegean and this one in the rugged mountains of Yugoslavia. If you're not up on WWII history in the Balkans, you might have to pay close attention to tell the good guys from the bad guys (apart from our heroes, of course). You have the Germans, the Cetnik irregulars (who supported the Germans), the Partisans (who fought the Germans) and the British/Americans. Still, once you have a handle on who's who, the film is a fine action-adventure experience. Harrison Ford does a commendable job as the leader of a commando operation that paradrop into the German-occupied Yugoslav mountains to perform a covert military operation. There are enough twists and surprises as the story unfolds to keep you guessing much of the time as to exactly who can be trusted. There are some great special effects to boot. Give it a try.

FORCE 10 FROM NAVARONE is the sequel to THE GUNS OF NAVARONE which is one of the best war movies made and starred Gregory Peck, Anthony Quinn, David Niven, Anthony Quayle and James Darren. FORCE 10 stars Robert Shaw replacing Peck and Edward Fox replacing Niven. Although Shaw and Fox are superb actors, they are definitely disappointing and lack the charisma when compared to the definitive roles played by Peck and Niven in the original movie. Harrison Ford co-stars in FORCE 10 along alumni from the James Bond movie THE SPY WHO LOVED ME---Barbara Bach (Mrs. Ringo Starr and Richard "Jaws" Kiel. FORCE 10 is directed by Guy Hamilton (GOLDFINGER). FORCE 10 is not a bad movie, but it is a popcorn movie that pales in comparison to the original. If you want to watch some very good movies, you're better off with THE GUNS OF NAVARONE, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME or GOLDFINGER.

From the moment the film opens, the transfer exhibits a level of softness that barely surpasses an upconverted DVD. This is likely present in the source material and not a deficiency of the transfer, but it's still worth mentioning in case you were hoping to see video quality on par with some of the recently remastered Blu-ray's of classic films. To make matters worse, some scenes exhibit a heavy dose of grain that gives the background a noisy characteristic, and there are numerous specks or scratches that pop up from time to time. On the bright side, I was impressed with the natural skintones and appropriate color saturation throughout the film.

The film is a complete entertainment package: A very dynamic sound-track, on-point sound-effects and special-effects, a well-chosen acting staff who really acted their parts well, and a director who pulled the whole thing together to make for a rousing and suspenseful 2 hour solid entertainment package. This commando suspense style film was both a memorable and fascinating view.

I purchased this based on Harrison Ford's involvement and have never heard of the film before. For a first time viewing it was "okay" but nothing really worth while here. Other than seeing Mr.Ford during his time around the original "Star Wars-'77" This was made in '78. Okay, but you're not missing anything. Cheesy special effects for the '70's.

A good but not spectacular 1970s attempt to recreate the magic of the Guns of Navarone. Doesn't have the cast of the 1960s classic but is interesting attempt to recreate a bygone era of WWII flicks. Co-stars Ringo Starr's wife Barbara Bach. At least Robert Shaw doesn't get eaten by the shark.

Watched this movie and loved it as a kid; when I saw it on sale for $6.00 on Blu-Ray had to buy it. Great movie and looks amazing on Blu-Ray. Highly entertaining and if you love classic war movies you will love this!!

Most people have heard of "The Guns of Navarone" and not this sequel. Not as good as the original but enjoyable movie with Harrison Ford and Robert Shaw star as WWII commandos. Sadly there are no Extras-otherwise it would get a higher rating.
