Final season of Game Of Thrones
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This is the final season of HBO's Game Of Thrones. Love it, hate it, or you're indifferent about it, if you bought the previous seven seasons, you'll probably buy this one. The final 6 episodes of the series are on 3 blu ray discs. The episode "The Long Night" fares a bit better on the blu ray presentation, but it's still darn difficult to figure out exactly what's going on due to the murky dark scenes. Otherwise, the video is pretty sharp and detailed through the other episodes. Audio is encoded in dolby Atmos, but defaults to dolby digital 5.1. Make sure to adjust your audio to benefit from the better track if your system is capable. Only 6 episodes, but 4 exceed an hour in length. If all you want is to see the episodes, buy at a discount if you're able. Takes the price per episode down to a reasonable level. But there is a wealth of supplemental material included, so if you enjoy the extras, it does make the final season on blu ray worth the pickup.

Finally! THAT episode in HDR!
Posted .What a beautiful picture and wonderful sound. If you saw season 8 on cable or streaming, you probably remember how dark, muddy and ugly episode 3, "The Long Night" was. Well, not anymore. On UHD 4k and in HDR, this episode looks positively beautiful. No more color banding or washed out colors and muddy blacks. One of the best looking discs I've ever seen. Definitly qualifies as reference material. If you are a fan and have a 4k disc player and TV or projector with HDR you must have this set to really see these episodes as they were meant to be seen. And the sound is amazing too. The Atmos track makes use of all channels, including your overhead channels. My pictures are from my 110" home theatre setup with an Epson 5040 4k projector and white screen. The pictures don't do it justice.

Beloved Game of Thrones speeds to an ending
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendThe presentation here is great, as it usually is with HBO shows, and for those who own all 7 previous seasons, it will probably be hard to pass up owning this one, even if you don’t like the ending. Yes, this season is troubled, to say the least, but for those who invested 8 years watching the lives (and sometimes deaths) of the Starks and other Westeros characters unfold, it will be hard not to want to see it through to the very end. First, I have to say that the ending itself deserves reconsidering. The show became famous for thwarting expectations and killing off sacred characters, even as early as the first season, so it shouldn’t be a dealbreaker for true fans that the character you may have been rooting for didn’t end up on the Iron Throne (avoiding spoilers as much as possible here). Game of Thrones has been serving up hard-to-swallow pills all along, and the last episode is probably no exception—but I hope fans won’t throw out the whole series if they’re dissatisfied (personally, I was not). The biggest problem by far, and I don’t know how many would disagree, is that this season feels really, really rushed. When the series started, it was about 10 episodes per season, then it dropped in recent seasons down to 8—this one is only 6. They add about 20 minutes to most episodes and expect it should make up the difference, but it really doesn’t. For 7 years, the series has crawled toward the finish line, then in the last season they choose to sprint. It’s jarring, or it was for me. The invasion of the White Walkers that has taken up so much focus in the last two seasons, and has been threatened since the first, is concluded in three episodes here, and while I found that third episode (“The Long Night”) the peak of the season, it still feels like it’s suddenly finished. Many people were irritated or even outraged by the character arc of Daenerys, and while I believed it, I can’t argue with anyone who felt betrayed. I think the show creators were hoping for surprise and instead they triggered fury. It would have been better if the signals had been planted further back in the show’s history. But whether this last season ruined Game of Thrones for you or just left you a bit disappointed, that’s your decision. Or maybe you’re one of those rare fans who liked how it all turned out—but I’m not putting money on that. I read all the available books and enjoyed the series from the first season, though it started to feel like the returns were diminishing around Season 5. My guess is this is pretty similar to the ending George R. R. Martin planned, but it will be a long while before anyone can say for sure. I look forward to watching the whole series again at a future point and reevaluating Season 8. I doubt I will change my mind about the flaws, but anyone who followed the adventures of Arya, Jon, Sansa, Daenerys, and Tyrion for years, there had to be some ending—even if it wasn’t what we hoped for.

Game of Thrones Season 8 - a bit of a mixed bag
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendThe final season in the GOT saga. Let's jump in; Pros; 1. Good quality audio and video, compared to the aired version that was criticized for being to dark, the Blu Ray version is just right 2. Lots of character plots and definitely a large amount of both physical and CGI work in the sets and FX. 3. Some surprises, i'll let those be a surprise 4. Each disk has some bonus content, make of it what you will, some is great and brings more to the game, others bonus features, not so much, so a mixed bag of bonuses Cons; 1. Short, with only 6 episodes it hardly qualifies as a "Season", more like a mini-series 2. Really cheap packaging, unlike the previous seasons that typically came in nice boxes with covers and extras, and those weren't even the limited edition ones, making the season 8 seem short, rushed, poorly presented and for any collector, a disappointment to the end of the collection. 3. I am guessing this is why they rolled out all these different $250-$350 dollar "Complete 8 season sets", and to a huge collector like myself, i am growing tired of this, constant repackaging of series. it brings to mind the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, were it seemed like every other year some "new" remastered version came out vying for your money, same goes for the Fast and Furious series, Terminator, Star Wars and a host of others. I find this to be a despicable way of repacking the almost identical material and charging a premium price for it, so you may see a lot of season 1 thru 7 series collections or individual seasons pop up on ebay and other sites for those who want to get the newest complete 8 season set without having another particle set laying around taking up space, on a positive note, this gives people who dont want to spend a fortune a great way to get the series second hand, so a bit of a silver lining. and with that, i say its worth getting regardless of being a collector or just someone that wants to SEE the last season.

Got it on sale!
|Posted .Owned for 11 months when reviewed.I have been waiting to finish watching GOT which I started years ago on Netflix , then HBO got greedy and took it off Netflix forcing you to subscribe to their crappy service which I refused to do. The GOT DVD sets are very pricey, I managed to get sesson 6 & 7 on sale at Best Buy and glad I did. Now just have to watch the final season on HBO which I temporarily subscribed to to watch WW1984 and rewatched GOT season 5 to re visit it, I afraid to watch season 8 because of how season 7 ended with one of the dragons being killed by the Night King and ...well you know what happens when something is killed by him...

It is what it is
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendAs most know, this season was atrocious as far as the story line goes but thats HBOs fault and not Best Buys. Used Best Buy's curbside pick-up which was great! I just sat in my car scrolling through emails and placing a dinner order while I waited, it was quick and easy to swing by and pick up. Anyway, I love GOT though so here are short Pros and Cons to owning this purchase: Pros: -Inexpensive Black Friday buy (says I bought it 12/10 but thats not true, not sure why it says that) -Visually stunning episode after episode -Dont have to buy HBO when I feel like watching -Now own the complete series on blu-ray Cons: -Story line is awful and not what fans wanted

Q: QuestionWhat are the product dimensions? I'm trying to figure out if this is the slipcover version that opens up and unfolds like the other GoT seasons. Thank you!
Asked by Ben.
This question was asked about the related product: Game of Thrones: The Complete Eighth and Final Season [DVD]- A:Answer The season 8 product dimensions are standard DVD size. This product does not open up or unfold, like my seasons 5, 6, and 7 did with pictures of different characters and extra insert booklets. It is just a sleeve, the plastic DVD case pulls out, and the DVD's are inside as usual. Actually, I prefer the smaller size; after all, the episodes are all we buy these for, not the unfolding larger package.
