Always enjoyed Garmin dash cameras. I figured to splurge and buy a mid-model and I’m happy I did. The video quality is very clear compared to the entry level cameras. The WiFi connection between your phone and camera is improved and viewing footage is fast. Transferring footage from the camera to your phone is also quick.

I picked up the Garmin Dash Cam X210 to add a layer of safety and peace-of-mind for my daily driving, and overall I’ve been pleased with its performance. It also was almost immediately helpful in capturing an incident that saved me money with my insurance company. If you want a dash cam that’s easy to set up, records reliably, and gives decent video quality without too much fuss, this one gets a lot of things right. From installation to everyday use, it’s been simple. The mount is straightforward and secure, the wiring was easy to manage, and once powered it reliably turns on and begins recording every time I start the car. That “set it and forget it” functionality is a big plus - I don’t have to worry about fiddling with settings or manually starting the camera. I also bought the Garmin Constant Power cable, which plugs into the OBD port and keeps the camera recording even when parked (using the Parking Guard feature). I HIGHLY recommend doing this; my camera ended up capturing a vandalism event while my car was street parked downtown. It caught the face, and the license plate of the person so the cops were able to actually press charges. Mounting it to the windshield in my Bronco was easy, and I like the fact that it has a magnet so I can remove it when I want to. The mount and camera have been subjected to 90 degree plus weather in direct sunlight and 20 degree weather with snow, and it hasn't shown any signs of falling off. Video quality is good for a mid-range dash cam. The 1440p resolution strikes a nice balance: clear enough to read license plates and capture detail without the huge file sizes that full 4K can create. Daytime footage is sharp and color-accurate, and while it's not perfect in low light it still provides usable detail. For most common situations (crashes, parking incidents, traffic disputes) the clarity seems more than adequate. I also appreciate that the camera offers basic features like loop recording and automatic overwrite when storage is full, so I never need to remember to clear the memory card. It handles memory cards reliably, and the footage seems stable. I haven’t noticed odd glitches, dropped frames, or abrupt cut-offs in normal driving scenarios. Downloading footage to the Garmin app can be a little finicky using the wifi connection, but you always have to option to just pull the memory card if you have issues. That said, it’s not without its limitations. The low-light/nighttime performance is just “okay,” not outstanding. Very dark roads or rainy nights can push it to the edge of usefulness. The field-of-view is decent, but not extremely wide, so you may miss some peripheral action if something happens off to the sides. Although the Garmin doesn't offer any flashy extra features like advanced driver-assist alerts or radar detection, it does have red light camera warnings which I appreciate. For me, the lack of extra features is more of a pro than a con for me, because it has one job that it does really well. In short: the Garmin Dash Cam X210 is a dependable, no-nonsense dash cam that does exactly what you need: records good quality video reliably, with minimal setup and fuss. It may not be the most feature-rich or advanced model out there, but for everyday driving and peace-of-mind, it delivers. If you want straightforward coverage for the road without paying premium for extras you might never use, this dash cam is a solid, reasonable choice.
