Q: I just had this installed by Best Buy a few days ago. When it's running, it makes a terribly loud and high pitch whine noise. I'm about 25 feet away and can hear it, it's unbearable to be just sitting hear listening to it. Is this normal?

A: Hi KenA- Thanks or choosing GE! This is not what we would expect to hear and can certainly understand your concern. This model has a hidden vent concealed inside the dishwasher door. This provides a clean appearance, seals in sound during the wash cycle, and protects against venting damage to countertops such as Corian or granite. It is quiet by design (46 dBA) with Quiet Water Valve, Sealed Toe Kick, Tub Collar Trim and Full Outer Bitumen Blanket Wrap. We suggest to make sure the Tub Collar Trim pieces were installed. For reference, see page 8 of the Installation Instructions. The dishwasher wash pump motor can make a whining sound when operating. This is normal. Q: Does this model GDF650SGJWW have the deep clean silverware jets?

A: Hi Bernie- The 600 Series Wash System (GDF650SGJWW) has Dedicated Silverware Jets that spray highly pressurized water to provide additional coverage areas and improve cleaning results for utensils. Specifically designed to target the silverware basket regardless of placement around the outside perimeter of the lower rack. The advantage is more versatility of the basket placement since the jets are not in a fixed location. Three pressurized, full-coverage wash arms that alternate between the lower and upper racks, and redesigned with more wash jets. Bottle Wash Jets integrated in the upper rack direct water inside narrow containers for better cleaning. Hard food disposer with removable filter pulverizes any food particles or cellulose solids that may bypass filtration. GE Profile™ Stainless Steel Interior Dishwasher with Hidden Controls PDT825SGJWW has 40 DEEP CLEAN SILVERWARE JETS located just underneath the 3-piece silverware basket. Q: Are the controls real buttons that you push? I've read comments about other front controls dishwashers saying that the controls are so sensitive that they start the dishwasher just by inadvertently rubbing against the controls with their belly.

A: Hi Grace- Thanks for considering GE! Rest assured you will need to press the pads to select the wash cycle and then press the Start pad to start the dishwasher. You an also lock the control to prevent selection from being made. For example, children cannot accidentally start the dishwasher by pressing buttons with this option selected. Simply press and hold the Steam and Wash Temp buttons for 3 seconds to lock and unlock the controls. The Control Lock light will turn off to indicate the control is unlocked. Keep in touch and let us know your favorite feature! SUE@GEA

Q: Will this unit wash correctly if I pre-rinse the dishes. I was told that because of sensors, new dishwashers will go directly to the rinse portion of the cycle if you pre-rinse. Does this unit have a "normal" cycle that doesn't use sensors?

A: There is an Autosense cycle that probably uses sensors. But also Heavy, Normal, and Light cycle with fixed times depending on options selected. I normally pre rinse so no chunks left stuck to plates and rarely use auto sense. All the cycles take longer than my old machine, up to 3 or 4 hours for auto sense. The only things that didn’t get squeaky clean were pots I had cooked rice in. Left spots where the rice grains were and had to be hand washed. I’ve had the machine 4 months. My only technical complaint is that it doesn’t dry very well at all because there is inadequate air flow during the dry cycle. But looked at other brands and most have the same design for drying. I was also unhappy with the installtion costs: $150 to Best Buy and another $170 to the installer because they had to replace a valve that prolly cost $15 and took 5 minutes. A rip off. I ended up paying $1100 for a $650 machine.
