Ok I brought this as a dream machine. It is the worst machine ever, from day one. I hate this machine. Have had 3 calls on machine and will call every month until I get results.
You can't wash a quilt, blanket or large items, Wont' clean in the middle. Leaves dry spots through the clothes, Was told by repairmen, load with same size clothes, will be unbalanced, plus smells moldy constantly, off balance and will actually shut machine off and you won't know if clothes are done or not, doesn't spin at times dry enough, I can only do 1/2 basket of clothes, will not clean, not to mention will not mix bleach in with the water, so now have bleach spots, Sad thing is all repairmen know this machine has problems. I HATE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REPAIRMAN OUT TONIGHT AND SAID YES IT HAS PROBLEMS, BAD CLEANING, UNBALANCED, MOLDY SMELL. IT WILL NOT HANDLE WHAT THEY ADVERTISE......AMAZING....GARBAGE MACHINE.

GE front loaders are garbage!

This machine is terrible. It does not balance loads well, so it does not go into high spin mode, so then the clothes come out soaking wet.
There are many, many complaints about GE front load washers doing this on the internet.

Last week, I wrote this letter to the vice president of the company that built of my mother's new house. This says it all about what a piece of garbage this GE6800J is...
---------------
I am writing to bring to your attention the distress being caused by your Design Center's choice of General Electric as their major appliance supplier, and the potential damage being done to your company's reputation as a result.
My mother spared no expense on her home, purchasing top-of-the-line GE Monogram appliances from the Design Center. There have been problems with most of the appliances right from the start, requiring repeated service calls from GE.
The biggest problem has been the washing machine, which is usually unable to balance the spin cycle, preventing it from entering high-speed spin and properly extracting water and soap from the clothes. It sometimes rocks, bangs and moves around the floor. After repeated service calls, GE technicians and customer service reps insist that the problem is a result of "user error" from "failing to wash completely full loads."
My mother and I both have many years experience with large front-loading washers. I personally washed many loads of various sizes and weights in this GE machine, with the same result. I can assure you that "user error" is not the problem. The washer is simply unable to consistently balance any size load. Besides, washing small-to-medium-sized loads should be well within any washer's repertoire. There is no excuse for this.
This has been a problem not only for my mother, but a neighbor of hers in the same development had the exact same problem with the exact same washer model. After many service calls, her washer was replaced by GE with the identical model. Since she told me that the new machine worked fine, I gave GE the benefit of the doubt that this might not be an inherent problem with this particular model.
Encouraged by the neighbor's satisfaction with her replacement machine, I called GE customer relations again and insisted on a new machine for my mother as well.
On October 16, GE delivered a brand new, identical washer to replace the old one. My mother has had the same exact results as the old machine – extremely long wash times as the machine continually tries unsuccessfully to re-balance, and clothing that usually comes out soaking wet.
We have gone online to various consumer opinion websites, finding widespread dissatisfaction with GE washers in general, and front-loaders in particular. My mother's neighbor related extensive problems with her GE appliances, including her refrigerator and stovetop (both of which my mother has also had problems with).
It is clear that this high-end General Electric washer is poorly designed and over-sensitive to clothing distribution, and simply will not do the job it is designed for. As I am no longer there to help, my mother plans to visit Best Buuy on her own to choose a new washing machine… and a matching dryer, since she is not about to have a mismatched laundry pair in the brand new house that she worked so hard to design perfectly.
When Best Buy delivers the new machines, I told my mother to have the deliverymen put her brand new GE washer and dryer into the garage, so that I can sell them on Craigslist when I am in town again next summer. The cost difference between any replacement machines and the amount the GE machines will sell for is surely substantial, but my mother simply cannot endure this distress any longer, and she should not be expected to.
There is so much about the new house and the overall experience with your company that my mother has been very satisfied with. I thought you would want to know that the choice of General Electric appliances may be hurting your reputation, and consider making another choice in the future.
----------------
The VP wrote to say that their company (a huge builder with lots of clout) would reimburse my mother for the full amount she paid for the washer and dryer, and make GE take them back. He was kind enough to relate that they have been having so much problem with GE, that they are in talks with another supplier, and may very well cease using GE products.
We're already working on selecting a new washer and dryer, and will NEVER own another GE product.

This machine is the worst product I have ever purchased. I know this thing has to be full of mildew because the thing stinks up my house. I have to dissaemble the thing once a week to see if anything is clogged in the drain line because it eats everything. I have called a service repairman out many times for the smell.
My warrenty ran out last month and I called the service center to see if I could have someone come out since this is an ongoing problem. The service rep said it would not be a problem and it would be no charge to me. The service man came out and said to go and buy some Washer Magic to remove the smell and gave me a bill for over $200. I told him I would not pay it so he said he would bill me. After calling GE they said they had record of me calling but said they had no proof that the service charge would be waved. To save my credit I sold the machine for $200 and considered it a loss. I will never buy a GE product again in my life and I will tell everyone who is buying a applience to stay away from this company.

Beware the spin cycle

As others have posted, this machine apparently has a very hard time trying to balance a load. It adds 3 minutes each time it tries to balance itself. The 36min quick wash would take on average about an hour or a little longer. I have a wood floor and am told it may make a difference if you have a cement floor. For the money spent I just expected more. I will give my local Best Buy credit. After showing them the reviews and multiple complaints about the same thing they let me trade this GE model for another set (different brand) with no hassle. Best Buy Missoula has great customer service.

Each week when I try to use this washer I feel ripped off all over again. I did not do my research and I am suffering for it. What others have posted about this model are very true. The unit may look nice and has a reasonable price tag but that is where the positives end. I just spent 2 1/2 hours trying to do one load of laundry that should have taken about one hour. The unit just can not seem to balance loads for the spin cycle. If you do not have the magic quantity of identical garments this machine loses it. The unit is level, shipping bolts removed, it's just a piece of garbage. I should have taken $800 and flushed it down the toilet. At least I would have saved the frustration this piece of trash is causing me. Good thing is, when it does manage to spin, it shakes so hard it should fall apart in no time. Next time, and I don't expect it will be long, I will do my research.

I have never had a problem with any other washers/dryers, even cheap ones. However, we purchased both the GE washer & dryer about 2 years ago. I was excited to finally have a front loader, and because of the $$ & brand name I knew it would be great. WRONG ! Within 6 months I had to call the service department twice for the washer. We noticed that our clothes were not as fresh smelling and the washer was not draining properly. The washer has a "trap" of sorts hidden behind the front panel that can not be accessed unless you unassemble the bottom front of the washer. The service man did not even know about the "trap" until he called the company because he couldn't figure out why the machine kept turning off at 32 minutes and not draining the water out for no apparent reason . Yes, if the machine stops and you have to open the door, water will flood into the room. It needs to be drained quite frequently, and if you have small children - the machine does actually eat the socks :) , but it catches them in the trap and backs up the whole machine. - - I tried laundry bags, but water will back up even without socks clogging it up. Now, we are just using the machine without the panel on the bottom, so I can drain it. This looks terrible, but its too hard to put the panel back on if you have to do it often. Other things are starting to go wrong with it as well.
The Dryer - - we are currently waiting for service on it. It just stopped drying the clothes. I guess it was having to work too hard to compensate for the washing machine problems. If you happen to deal the GE customer service . . . Good Luck, you'll need it!!
We always use Best Buy, but we did use another popular store for this purchase. We will never make that mistake again. Best Buy is by far the best place to purchase big items & warranties. We would not be in this situation today if we had gone to Best Buy for the washer/dryer to start with.

Poor Quality and Service

We have owned our machine for 3 years. Within the 18 months the outer plastic tub had to be replaced as it wore out. When the outer tub wore out it leaked gallons of water into our finished basement. We had bought the extended warrenty and Best Buy fixed the issue. Now 9 months later the outer plastic tub broke again. The extended warrenty had expired and GE is not willing to repair the machine. At the cost of $500 to fix the machine and GE not standing behind their brand, the machine is headed for the scrap heap.
