Nice dryer, but bigger than claimed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this dryer for the one and only reason that it would fit through the 26" wide doorway of my old house. Online, GE claimed it was 25-1/2" deep so I went for it. Only after I paid for it, took the day off from work, and waited for it to be delivered did I realize that it's actually 28-1/2" deep (the same depth as virtually all other dryers out there). So, to get it to fit into my pantry, I had to rip out the entire door frame, then re-build it and re-paint it, which took a significant amount of extra time and money. Luckily, the width of the dryer (27") just BARELY made it through the doorway with the frame taken out. The depth (28-1/2") would have never made it, and I would have been stuck with this thing. Now I can see where GE (or whomever posted the specs) is coming from - the main cabinet of the dryer IS 25-1/2" as claimed. However, they totally omitted the fact that there's this 3" bulge that comes out of the back, which can't be temporarily removed. So, again, this is a nice dryer and all, but if you're buying it because of it's supposed depth of under 26 inches, don't be fooled!
