If you are a Genesis V1 fan, this is an incredible journey to take. With Hackett guiding his band and special guests, early Genesis is recreated here in spectacular fashion, with nice twists. Nad Sylvan does a superb job of recreating Gabriel's vocals, Lee Pomeroy is great at bringing life to Rutherfords bass parts, and Roger King does a wonderful job with Bank's keyboards. Add to that the stage presentation in the DVD portion, and Sylvan providing a great visual that invokes Gabriel's stage presence, and the DVD makes an incredible visual presentation!
However, lest I make it sound like this is a tribute band, it is so much more. Even though the follow the original music, it is clear these are updated versions. I'm not familiar with Nad Sylvan, on vocals at all. But, I will be looking for more of his stuff. He has a great voice that has just enough similarity to Gabriel's, while still sounding superb with out just mimicing him.
And what can you say about Hackett. He's one of my top 5 guitarists of all time. His sound is still just as distinctive now as it ever was (with some added sounds), all the flourishes he is known for, and he still nails some of the most difficult guitar parts this side of YES with alacrity.
Overall, the CD will be in my rotation on my iPOD for a long time, and a DVD worth watching over and over.. If you long for new versions of Genesis with Gabriel, with an original member guiding the effort, this is the only game in town. I'm in heaven with this!
