Synopsis

Memento Mori
Kim Tae-yong and Min Kyu-dong direct this thriller about teen sexuality and supernatural fury. The film focuses on the young nubile Min-ah (Kim Min-seon), who stumbles upon a diary/scrapbook that details the freakishly intense relationship between her schoolgirl classmates Shi-eun (Lee Yeong-jin) and hacket-faced Hyo-shin (Park Ye-jin). The pair seem to have some sort of telepathic bond. When Hyo-shin appears to commit suicide, Min-ah shows the diary to two of her friends and the three attempt to discover what really happened to the girl. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi

Whispering Corridors
Every three years, the gloomy halls of a highly regimented all-girl Korean school are haunted by the spirit of a student who died as a result of her teachers' cruel forms of discipline. Though outwardly a Gothic, sometimes gruesome horror tale, the story is actually a critique of Korea's militaristic approach to education. At the school, it is not uncommon for errant students to be slapped or hit hard upon the head. The ghost died a decade before in a freak accident and since then her restless spirit reemerges at the same time and interval to get revenge by taking over the body of a new student and using her to cause all kinds of trouble for the instructors. One of those educators was a former student and a best friend of the deceased girl. The ghost's reign of terror is threatened by the presence of a shaman's daughter, who has at her disposal the means to send the ghost away forever. Yeogo Goedan was screened at the 1998 Vancouver Film Festival. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Wishing Stairs
South Korean filmmaker Yun Jae-yeon directs the thriller Yeogo Goedam 3: Yeowoo Gyedan (Wishing Stairs), the third in a series of horrific tales set in all-girl schools (the other two being Whispering Corridors and Memento Mori). The story involves several teenage ballet students at a remote boarding school for fine arts. The staircase leading up to their dormitory has 28 stairs. Supposedly, a certain spirit will grant your wish if the 29th step appears. Wealthy and outgoing Kim So-heui (Park Han-byeol) is best friends with the more reserved Yun Jin-seong (Song Ji-hyo). Right before an important competition, someone puts glass shards into So-heui's ballet shoes and she later dies. After that, many other frightening events start to happen at the school. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi
