Synopsis

Graffiti Bridge
Prince wrote, directed, and stars in this disastrous sequel to Purple Rain that equates differing musical styles with God, angels, faith, and the struggle between the spiritual and the earthy. Once again Prince is The Kid, still working his emotional damnedest to one-up Morris Day and his band, The Time. In this installment, the boys fight over the ownership of a nightclub called Glam Slam. Both are bequeathed half of the club in a will, and Morris and the Kid want to handle each of their halves differently. Morris treats his part of the club as a popular venue, playing music the public wants to hear, and it is a rousing success. The Kid, on the other hand, wants to bring spirituality into funk -- to make his point he even strikes a crucifixion pose. The result is a battle of the bands with The Time and The Kid jamming off of one another, battling for the souls of the two-drink minimum suckers. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Okay, first of all, I liked princes music from back in the day when he was in a group with morris day, his cousin. It took a couple times to actually see the full film Purple rain cause the first time was on videotape. Then I saw it on cable, and so on. Anyway, when he directed Under the Cherry Moon, it didn't do so well with the public and critics but to true prince fans, it was good. Now, for this movie, he tried to reach at the roots of his purple rain days, and it was okay but not as good as Purple Rain but still, tons of his vibe throughout the movie scenes so, if you bought Purple Rain and Under the Cherry Moon, buy this one, its not gonna hurt you at all.

Graffitti Bridge is the third Prince musical/drama, fantasy sequel to Purple Rain. This movie features conflicting views of artistic integrity vs commercial success that ignite a power struggle between two nightclub co-owners. This movie once again features Jerome Benton, and Morris Day and the Time. If you love Prince its worth seeing this movie. My girlfriend got this one packaged in a purple case for Christmas last year just like Purple Rain and Under The Cherry Moon.

Graffiti Bridge is a terrible sequel to Purple Rain. The music couldn't save it, the presence of the original members of The Time couldn't save it. This movie is a muddled mess of contradictions. Once again Prince tries to mix spirituality with sexuality and it's a confused Hodge-podge. Lucky for us, after this movie, Prince stuck to what he did best, that is, make music. Bad acting, except for Morris Day, and a confusing storyline, renders this movie for the 1 dollar bin.

This movie is the continuation of the journey of THE KID (Prince's character from Purple Rain). Nothing still comes easy and he is still trying to make a name for himself in the overwhelming world of music. Not anywhere as good as Purple Rain, but very interesting to see that they did try to continue the story. Soundtrack again is the winner from this movie. Average watch, but still great for Prince fans.

The only reason this gets two stars is because it has Prince in it, and I'm a huge fan. But, as much as I love Prince, I can't deny this film was terrible. Bad acting, there was only one good song in it, and it just didn't work as well as Purple Rain did. Also, I don't think this film highlighted NPG as well as Purple Rain highlighted The Revolution members.

Graffiti Bridge is the sequel a few years removed from Purple Rain. Once again, Prince directed this movie as he did Under the Cherry Moon. The original seven Time returns and put in a great musical foil for the Kid once again. The music numbers are some of the rhythmic of any movies. Any true Prince fan this is a must have!

While the movie plot itself is bare and lacking in any true character development, the music in this movie and all performances are top-notch. I don't watch this looking for a dramatic masterpiece. I watch this for all the awesome music, presented as various music videos within the over-arching theme of the movie itself.

It was nice to find this one. I didn't know he had made any more movies after Purple Rain until I saw this one and Cherry Moon the shelf next to it. Based on those reasons alone I just had to have all three movies. I have enjoyed watching them and recommend them for all Prince fans.
