Download your digital content.

Digital downloads are a convenient, fast, easy way to access video games, computer software, gift cards and more. Once you’ve bought your downloadable item, you’ll want to start using it. The instructions below explain how to access your type of download and begin enjoying your purchase.

Video games.

You will receive an access code after purchasing a digital game.

Step 1

Add your digital video game to your cart and place your order in checkout. If you do not have an email address on file, you will be asked to add one.

Step 2

You will receive two emails shortly after placing your order. The first has the subject line “We’ve received your order” and will provide information about your download. The second email has the subject line “Redeem your code.”

Step 3

Redeem your code within your gaming console to initiate the download of your game.

PC gaming.

In most cases you will be directed to your Digital Library to access your download code.

Step 1

Purchase your digital game and complete the checkout process.

Step 2

Follow the link to your BestBuy.com Digital Library to access your code.

Step 3

Download your purchase from your Digital Library.
For your first download, you may need to install a third-party download manager that helps improve the speed and quality of the download.

Computer software.

You will receive instructions to access your software after purchase.

Step 1

Choose your software title and add it to your cart. A BestBuy.com account is required to complete the transaction.

Step 2

After your purchase, you will receive two emails from Best Buy — one thanking you for your order and another with a download code and instructions on how to download your software.

Step 3

Follow the software download instructions. In most cases, you need to enter the unique download code provided in the email you received.

Specialty gift cards.

Step 1

Choose your gift card and add it to your cart. A BestBuy.com account is required to redeem the gift card. If you are sending the gift card to someone else, that person will need a valid email address.

Step 2

After your purchase, you will receive two emails from Best Buy — one thanking you for your order and another with instructions to access your gift card code. The second email will contain a code to redeem the gift card.

Step 3

Follow the redemption instructions on the vendor’s website. You may have the option to print out the code if you wish to redeem the gift card in store.

Prepaid phone cards.

You will receive instructions to redeem your phone card after purchase.

Step 1

Choose your prepaid phone card and add it to your cart. A BestBuy.com account is required for delivery of the card.

Step 2

You will receive an email shortly after placing your order that contains a code to access your phone card. This email will be sent to the email address associated with your BestBuy.com account.

Step 3

The email will direct you to a site to redeem your code. You may be required to reconfirm the email address that you used during your order.

A digital download is any software, game, gift card or other product or service you can purchase that is accessed in electronic form. PC games and software downloads are stored in your Digital Library on BestBuy.com that you can access though your account.

Many software and game titles will require you to enter a code to unlock your digital download. If your download requires a code, you will see it in the Digital Library and in the instructions emailed to you.

Console games are played on gaming systems such as Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. When you purchase a digital game, you will receive an email for a code you can redeem within your gaming console. You may need to create an account and sign in to the system’s network to access the download. A broadband Internet connection is recommended.

To play games on your computer, choose games and add-ons that match your platform (Windows or Mac). Check the product page to make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements to play. When you download your game, follow the on-screen installation instructions.
