Megadeths debut album following Mustaines departure from Metallica encompasses the rage and emotion that was exhibited during that time. Many of the songs have a vicious and raw feel to them, as well as many having darker musical and lyrical themes. Such as Looking down the cross or Last rites..I loved you to death. There are also more rhythmic/catchy songs such as Mechanix, or Chose Ones (which is a song about Monty python’s killer rabbit.) This album is one of the best of Megadeths catalogue, and a true encompassment of what metal is supposed to be

It's really cool to hear this album remastered. The vocals and overall mix have so much more clarity. One of the "founding father" albums of real, thrash, speed metal. The inside cover notes about each song from Mustaine and Ellefson are cool as well. The only bummer is the heroes out, edited version of "Boots". It's annoying and makes it impossible to enjoy the song.

I consider myself a huge fan of thrash metal, especially of the bands that came out of the 1980s. Out of my favorite 1980s thrash metal debut albums (including The Legacy, Show No Mercy, and Bonded By Blood), this one tops them all. From the first song to the last, Dave Mustaine shows why he is one of The Godfathers of Thrash Metal.

This album proved to the world that Dave Mustaine was force to be reckoned with. Rivaling Metallica in the mid-1980s was an uphill battle, but Mustaine and his new band showed they could rock just as hard and establish themselves as a cornerstone of American metal.
