Malick's 8 1/2
||Posted .How much you enjoy Knight of Cups is dependent upon your reaction to Malick's late stream of consciousness period ("The Tree of Life, To the Wonder"). A Hollywood screenwriter takes a pilgrimage of sorts, reflecting on his combative relationships with family and disconnected relationships with women. There's very little dialogue here. Also, little drama and convention. It's a headlong visual odyssey with hushed voice over, sound and light. It's not for mainstream tastes. It can be monotonous and dull. But it's a type of arthouse fare that one rarely sees anymore.

Good movie, bad release
||Posted .First of all, the cover art for this is just odd. Why they didn't just go with the tarot card style of the awesome poster baffles me! Then, it's just a single blu-ray disc. I mean, come on it's a Terrence Malick film! I want as much juicy extra features as possible the dude is an enigma. The film itself may be boring to some, but it's oddly relaxing to me. This and Blade Runner are two movies that I love to put on when I go to bed.

Drinking from the "Cups" of Malick
||Posted .The films of writer/director Terrence Malick is a journey unto itself. For the uninitiated, I can not tell how this film would play on its own and isolated terms; as I have watched and thoroughly enjoyed his prior films sequentially. Films such as "Badlands", "Days of Heaven", "The Thin Red Line" and "The New World" (which must be seen in the new Criterion edition that offers all three cuts of the film). With that said, "Knights of Cups" continues to make me look forward to the Malick films to follow. Malick may be the only film-maker who gained degrees from both Harvard and The American Film Institue; combining each of his studies into works that are both philosophical and visually innovative. His films are few and far between; but altogether rare gems.

Terrence Malick is starting to try my patience
||Posted .He has a style all his own. Very fiew directors have such a stamp that ou'd know exactly who directed it within the first couple minutes but Malick is one of those people. Problem is all of his movies set in present modern times seem to be lacking something. Too obviously scriptless. Just actors wandering around with go pros. Part of you wants to think it artsy but at some point you wonder if he is just getting lazy. I rather appreciated it more when he took time between films. As a collector of his films I bought this blu ray without seeing it first, and its good to support films LIKE this but as for this film itself... eh...

Good Movie
||Posted .Cinematography is excellent and it follows Malick's style in many ways. Acting is excellent, especially Bale's , Portman's and Blanchett's. Overall, this film did not involve me as much as did The Tree of Life, which I still think is Malick's best.

Only for the Malick fans
||Posted .This is good if you like Terrence Malick's movies. If you're not into movies like The Tree of Life or To the Wonder you will hate this and feel that it's pointless. Not Malick's best, but enjoyable if you like his style.

Terrence Malick is not everyones cup of tea
||Posted .I am very biased when it comes to Director Terrence Malick, I would rather watch him push the edges out than watch some successful hack stay inside the profit lines. Christian Bale roams through L.A. & Vegas and along the way encounters 6 different women who lead him through our modern, impersonal, selfish world...that's the simple plot...but, Malick doesn't do simple...you've been cautioned.
