Its fast and nice but just a couple minor issues
|Posted .Owned for 2 months when reviewed.Features
Quality4 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5The laptop is nice, its fast, nice graphics, etc. but have a couple issues and with the price of this there shouldn’t be any issues. That is how my luck goes, nothing I buy ever completely works like it’s supposed to. 1) it smudges easily with fingerprints outside and inside (see attached photos). Its not like I do a lot of handling or carrying it around it stays on a table and I only use the keyboard. I don’t know what the interior/exterior is made of but it drives me crazy seeing smudges/fingerprints all over it. I like things to look clean. It’s also hard to clean off the smudges, I used special liquid for monitors/tablet and it wouldn’t come off, had to use a disinfecting wipe and rub hard to got most of it but not all. The battery life is not good – I get about 2 hours out of it before it dies. But its very frustrating when I have to move over and sit by an outlet to charge it. I’m not even using big software, hardware or programs, just shopping online. Im not sure if this is fixable? Guess I’ll need to contact Legion. Although it does charge fast, gets to 100% within 2 hours (and while Im using it) which is nice but having to go sit by an outlet every 2 hours when Im working from home makes it a huge inconvenience. Third the keyboard is hard to see in the evenings, would be great if it lit up. I thought it had this feature, but Ive looked everywhere and can’t find anything for keyboard light. When I restart it, upon boot up, the whole keyboard lights up bright for a couple seconds so I know it does light up. All in all I say go for it, get it~ I did a lot of research and this came out on top. The issues I am having is just a fluke Im sure, with my bad luck.

I use it for post production in photography along with Lightroom. I am very happy with the quality of my pictures after Lightroom. The pictures on my computer look great.

Very short Battery Life
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Ok so this has some very decent bells and whistles but I highly recommend removing McAfee unless you like their antivirus software (not the best). The battery life is a very low point on this unit. It barely lasted three hours if even that and I wasn’t even playing games or using any software. My first use was just installing software; Adobe CC and Steam. I also upgraded Windows and the NVIDIA GTX1660 TI driver. Battery died shortly there after... I can’t imagine how much juice it will drain just playing a game... I will stress test this and see what happens but if it just drains the battery that quickly then I may consider returning it or reaching out to Lenovo for a solution. Currently it is set to “Balance”. Screen size is nice and is of good quality, NIT rated at 300 seems to be correct as I used this outside in daylight and I could see it very well. Keyboard felt nice with short travel on the keystrokes, track pad is spot on and doesn’t miss a beat. Speakers are actually not shabby at all and give a decent quality sound when playing music. Obviously it’s best to get a headset when gaming anyway. It doesn’t seem slow at all, I can’t wait to edit and render video and play a game or two and see how it performs.

Excellent graphics Laptop for the price
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I was looking for a high end/gaming/graphics/schoolwork laptop. My requirements were: 17" monitor (bonus that it can do 144Hz) 16 GB ram, 1 TB installed SSD, a decent dedicated gaming/graphics card, and a budget of about $1000. I had a 2.5 1TB SATA SSD from my older laptop that I wanted to put into it as a fast storage drive, so it had to have an internal SATA port. This laptop has it. Technically this model came out in summer of 2019, so it is not the absolute latest and greatest, but it is damned good. It has a 9th Gen i7-9750 (not 10th Gen, but I had my price point), GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (best graphics in my price range as I cold not get an RTX 2080 even close, especially compared to the average 1650), 1 TB M.2 NVme SSD (getting 1800 MB/s, not 2800 MB/s but still faster than what I was used to with my 550 MB SATA). And it runs Flight simulator *and* Second life and Satisfactory, both in Ultra, at the same time, connected to two external monitors (HDMI and mini-HDMI) without any problems. The noise from the fans is inevitable, but there is a quiet mode that keeps the din down. To save a few hundred dollars, I got this as an open box, so my net cost was just over $1000, not the $1400 list. I had no problems with it being open box, except the computer was registered for 7-8 months earlier, so I "only" get 4 months of standard warranty, but I can deal with that. I have been stress testing it with as much as I can imagine and had no issues at all. The only other upgrade I did was to upgrade to 32GB of RAM (MS Flight Simulator 2020 is a memory HOG that takes 18 Gigs of RAM) which lets me run anything I can imagine, including many multiple VirtualBox VMs for my schoolwork. I have 4 USB external HDs attached (total of 16TB) plus an older 1 TB SSD from an older laptop I put into a USB enclosure. USB headset, Apple and Android charging cables, three USB 3.0 hubs to help with of these connections, and a USB C in the back with extra anything else I might need. In other words, it is a good value with a lot of capability if you are not looking for a 2080. And for many games, a 1660 Ti can give PLENTY of graphics/gaming performance unless you have more money to burn.

Hooked!

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I bought a Dell G3 during BF week for $694.00 after taxes. I decided to take a risk and exchange it for the Legion Y540 and boy am I glad I did for an extra $300.00 I went from 8gb to 16gb ram, 512gb to 1tb SSD, Intel i5 to Intel i7, 15.6 to 17.3 screen and 60hz to 144z. After playing on 144hz display I have to say I will not be going back to 60hz. I am absolutely enjoying this laptop a lot of people complain about it heating up. A simple fix is to undervolt which I have personally done bringing down the temp by 10+ degree and if you use a cooling pad that will take care of any heating issues. I also added an additional 2.5" 512gb SSD which is very easy to install although be careful when opening the laptop. It is a pull back and out cover thier are two half's one front cover and one back cover. I really enjoy the ports being in the back it's a very sleek looking laptop it is a bit heavy but what do you expect from a 17.3" laptop common sense guys. The number pad does take some getting used to other than that I am more than satisfied with my purchase highly recommend if you can get it on sale.

Worth it
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I bought this to play Sims 4 on, yeah probably a bit overkill, but I wanted something to last. It has been great. I love the support that I get on it from Lenovo. It's not full of bloatware which is cool, unlike a different brand laptop that only lasted me less than a year due to current keyboard issues. Best Buy didn't have any reviews on this, so I had to do extensive research and learned alot. I'm not a technology expert by any means and have nobody to help me on it, so I hope I did good. Anyhow, I'm impressed. I like the sleek design of it and how easy it was for a tech challenged person like me to set it up. I like the speed and the massive space to be able to add more games on it if I want. Also, it's quieter than I expected (again comparing it to a previous laptop mentioned earlier). The only thing I'm leary about is how hot it gets. If anyone has suggestions on a cooling pad, that would be great. I have a 6 fan on it now, but it doesn't cover the extended back on the laptop.
